Publisher, Dies
WALTER CATTERALL, 49 years old, publisher of the Brownsville Telegraph, died at 10:35 o�clock this morning in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. He had been a patient there for 11 weeks. Mr. Catterall had spent the past 26 years in Brownsville. During 25 of them, he was identified with the Telegraph. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nellie Vickers Catterall and one daughter, Connie Lee, at home.
Walter Catterall
The death of Walter Catterall, publisher of the Brownsville Telegraph, will be regretted in the newspaper fraternity. He was an energetic type of man, interested not only in the Telegraph but in the advancement of the publishing industry generally. Because of that interest he was a valued member of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. A native of England, he had spent the greater part of his life in this country. Twenty-five of 26 years in Brownsville he had been identified with the newspaper there, advancing up through the advertising and business side to the position of publisher. He was also active in civic and church affairs in the Fayette county city. His death came yesterday after nearly 11 weeks as a patient in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
CATTERALL SERVICE
The funeral service for Walter Catterall, 49, publisher of the Brownsville Telegraph, will be held at 2:30 o�clock Thursday afternoon in the First Methodist Church at Brownsville with Rev. D.C. Robbins officiating. Interment will be in the Lafayette Memorial Park. He was born in Platbridge, near Wigan, Lancashire, England, and settled in West Virginia upon his arrival in American in 1922. Mr. Catterall joined the Brownsville Telegraph 25 years ago and served consecutively as bookkeeper, accountant, business manager and publisher, a post he held since 1938. He was active in the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association as a member of the executive committee. Surviving in addition to his widow, Mrs. Nellie Vichers Catterall are one daughter, Connie Lee; his mother Mrs. Mary Ann Catterall of Brownsville; two brothers, James of Hiawatha, Utah, and Charles, circulation manager of the Brownsville Telegraph, and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Strang and Mrs. Albert Lamb, both of Brownsville.

Following an extended illness, James J. Caulley, 73, died Saturday noon, April
3, 1937, in his home, Broadway, Brownsville.
Though more recently associated with the Brownsville Hardware, deceased was well
known as a hotel operator in Scottdale and Brownsville. He is survived
by his widow, Mrs. Ada Fletcher Caulley, and one son, James. Three sisters,
Miss Beatrice Caulley, Mrs. Anna Kelley and Mrs. Mary O'Connor, all of Scottdale,
also survive.
Services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in St. Peter's R. C. church,
Brownsville, Rev. Fr. John officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

ALBERT CAVALCANTE
Funeral arrangements for Albert Cavalcante, 48, of Masontown, a Robena Mine disaster victim, are in charge of the Yoney funeral home of Masontown. He was a repairman with 27 years of service. Surviving are his widow, Rebecca; his mother, Mrs. Carmella Cavalcante of Edenborn; three stepchildren, Edward Martin, Mrs. Wallace (Jean) Stillwagon and James Martin of Masontown; three brothers, James and Orland of Masontown, and William of Uniontown, and four sisters, Mrs. Angelo (Grace) Didivigone, Millie Cavalcante and Mrs. Joseph (Marie) Holonick of Edenborn and Mrs. Sam (Rose) Balas of Gates.
MRS. BRIDGET CAVANAUGH
Mrs. Bridget Cavanaugh, aged 78, died at 6 p.m., Sunday in the home of her daughter, Miss Winifred Waters, No. 5, Show street. Her death was due to complications. Mrs. Cavanaugh was born in Cloonaughill, Ire., in 1857, and came to this country when quite young. She was married to John Waters of Scottdale who preceded her in death. Two children were born to this union, Winifred Waters, with whom she made her home, and Joseph E. Jones of Everson. These with four grandchildren, Jimmie, Geraldine, Collette and Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Mary Welsh of Ireland, and a brother, Martin Roddy of Uniontown, survive. Later, Mrs. Waters was married to Harry Cavanaugh, also deceased. Mrs. Cavanaugh was a devout member of St. John's Roman Catholic church, a charter member of the Altar Aid society. The body was removed to A. D. Ferguson's funeral parlors. This afternoon the remains will be taken to the Jones home in Everson where services will be held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock in the St. John's R. C. church of Scottdale. Burial in the Scottdale cemetery.
Elsie Cavanaugh, formerly of Connellsville � Elsie Maude Cavanaugh, 79, of 1207 Vermont Ave., Aliquippa, formerly of Connellsville, died Wednesday, March 30, 1994, at Sewickley Valley Hospital, Sewickley. She was born June 2, 1914, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Albert and Millie Glover Romesburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn, Aliquippa. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth C. Cavanaugh of Aliquippa and John Paul Cavanaugh of New Brighton; two daughters, Marlene McLellon of Center Township and Betty Cavanaugh of Hopewell Township; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell Romesburg of Connellsville; and two sisters, Hazel Miller of Connellsville and Verna Honsaker of Myersdale. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Alfred Cavanaugh (1982); and three brothers, Calvin, Theodore, and Dwight Romesburg.

Of the 51 miners who were in the mine at the time of the accident, 30 escaped through the man-way on the left side of the main slope. The fortunate were as follows, William Landy and two sons, William and Morris Jones, and William Yates, Barney and John Cosgrove, Patrick and Terrance Begley, who are brothers of Richard and Joseph Begley, two of the entombed unfortunates, Maurice Pine, James Miller, John McGuill, John Kerwin, Edward Condron, John Boyd, Thos Kelly, George Lowry, James Murphy and Thomas Shearen. The miners who were in the right heading number 31. Their names were as follows:

Homes and Circumstances
The unfortunate men were residents of Dunbar and vicinity. They were chiefly of English Irish and Scotch descent, no Hungarians or Poles having ever been employed at these works. Many of them owned their neat little homes and those who were not native born were naturalized. They were a frugal honest body of workmen, and were above the average miners in intelligence and thrift. They were personally known to nearly every resident of Dunbar and vicinity. Almost all were married and fathers of families ranging in numbers from one to ten children. The following gives more in detail the condition of the families left fatherless by the sad calamity.

MANY ANXIOUS AND more curious people will assemble at the ill- fated Hill Farm mine this morning to witness the removal of the bodies of the victims of the disaster of June 16th, 1890, the long and weary search for which ended yesterday in the recovery of all but six of the twenty-nine. The flat in which these bodies were found was reached late Wednesday afternoon. The air was horrible and no attempt was made to pursue the search beyond the first few bodies.

Mrs. Frances Cavaretti, aged 30, wife of John Cavaretti, 321 Ridge street, Brownsville
died at 7:30 o'clock Thursday morning in the Eye and Ear Hospital, Pittsburgh,
following two recent major operations.
Besides her husband she is also survived by: four children, Elizabeth, Mario, Rose,
and Marie Cavaretti, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Parnella, Monessen;
Mrs. John Liberto, Weirton, W. Va.; and three brothers, Charles Lipari, Brooklyn
N. Y.; James, Monessen, and Joseph Lipari, of Brownsville.
The funeral cortege will meet at the family residence Monday morning at 8 o'clock
and go to St. Peter's R. C. church for requiem mass at 9 o'clock. The pastor,
Rev. Fr. Martin Brennan, will officiate as celebrant.

Helen P. Cavrak, 78, of (Arnold City) Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1994 in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Eileen Kershey and husband, Robert of Middleburg Heights, Ohio and Mrs. Patricia Wargo of Arnold City, Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Kivinski of Winter Park, Fla. Frank Cawodny, aged 49, following a protracted illness of complications, died at 10:30 o�clock Monday night, May 6, 1935, in the residence of Charles Bednarcynh, near Brownfield. He is survived by one brother. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
CAYELLI, DANIEL— Age 87 years, of 109 N. Main St., Masontown, died at 4:30 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 1966, in the Cedar Haven Rest Home, Silver Spring, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eletta in 1946. Surviving is one son, Charles of Silver Spring, Maryland; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of All Saints R. C. Church, Masontown and the Italian American Citizens Club of Masontown. Friends will be received in the Maykuth Funeral Home, Masontown after 5 p.m. today where prayer services will be held Monday morning at 8:45 followed by a Requiem High Mass at 9 o�clock in All Saints R.C. Church, Masontown with Rev. Fr. Andrew Charnoki as celebrant. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 8 o�clock.
Lillian M. Cayton, 73, of Carmichaels, Pa., and formerly of Clarksburg, W. Va., died at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, March 19, 1996, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. She is survived by her husband, Mortimore J. Cayton Jr., whom she married on June 9, 1946; a daughter, Frances Jo Ann Cayton, at home; a sister, Georgia Wetzel of Elkins, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, 300 South Vine St. (Rt. 188), in Carmichaels, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Stephen E. Cehula, Sr., age 86, of Uniontown, Pa., passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, with his loving family at his side. He was born on October 10, 1925, son of the late Michael and Ann Cehula. Stephen was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Stephen was employed as an iron worker in Pittsburgh for 36 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in England. He was a previous member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, a member of the former VFW Post 47 and the AM-VETS Post 103. Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Doris D. (Hoch) Cehula; two children, Stephen E. Cehula, Jr. with wife Ann Marie, and Cameron Cehula; three grandchildren, Juli D. Cehula, Lauren Kirkpatrick, and Thane Cehula; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Belle; a brother, Joseph Cehula and wife Becky and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the STEPHEN R. Doris J. Cellurale, 74, of Lemont Furnace, died Friday, July 23, 2004, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. She was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Brownsville, a daughter of Grace D. (Riffle) Hartman and the late Ralph L. Hartman. Prior to her retirement she was part owner of Cellurale's Garden Center. Later, she worked at Geibel High School kitchen for several years. She also volunteered her time cooking in the kitchen at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church and its food booth at the Fayette County Fair. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking, canning, bowling, and being "mom" to those she loved. Doris was a member of St. Aloysius RC Church, Dunbar, and its Christian Mothers, the Sons of Italy, RFD Bowling League and the Mother of Pearl Club. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Cellurale Sr. of Lemont Furnace; three children, Linda Mongell and her husband, George, of Connellsville, Joseph Cellurale Jr. of Uniontown, and Marcie Sangston and her husband, Mark of Connellsville; five grandchildren, Maria Bigham and her husband, Bart, of Ohio, George Mongell of Pittsburgh, Joey A. Cellurale of Uniontown, Tasha Sangston and her fianc�, Danny Davis of Connellsville, and Lacie Cellurale of Connellsville; three brothers, Robert Hartman and his wife, Janet of Ohio, Wayne Hartman of Texas, and Wilbur "Jack" Hartman and his wife, Shirley of Virginia; also numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends. James F. Cellurale Sr., 86, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., passed away Monday evening, Aug. 19, 2002, in Lafayette Manor Nursing Home. He was born May 6, 1916, in the village of Macchiagodena, province of Abbruzzi, Italy, the son of the late Maria DiFroscia and Michele Cellurale. James came to the United States with his mother to be reunited with his father, who immigrated to the United States in 1916. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara V. Piccioni Cellurale and his son, Michael Cellurale. He is survived by his seven children, Mary Jane Orazi and husband, John of Lemont Furnace, Frances Miller and husband, John of Alexandria, Va., Theresa Cardine and husband, Bill of Ashburn, Va., James F. Cellurale Jr., and his wife, Marilyn of Lemont Furnace, Albert Cellurale and wife, Kathy of Hopwood, Antionette Kuhlman and husband, Jeff of Evendale, Ohio, and Terry Cellurale and his wife, Gina of Uniontown; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Cellurale; and a sister, Lydia Rich. He was an employee of Eureka Brick Works/Foseco from 1955, until his retirement in 1979. In addition, he was a farmer and co-owner of Cellurale Pine Tree Plantation. He was a kind and generous man, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received in the STEPHEN E. Joseph Cellurale Sr. Lemont Furnace Joseph Cellurale Sr., 86, of Lemont Furnace, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at UPMC Shadyside. He was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Lemont Furnace, a son of the late Michael and Maria (DiFroscia) Cellurale. Joseph was a lifetime member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Dunbar, and was a former member of the Dunbar Lion's Club. Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years at the former Allied Mills, Everson. Joseph was a lifelong farmer and co- owner for 45 years of Cellurale's Pine Tree Plantation. He loved to spend time in his garden and enjoyed canning his fresh vegetables. In his spare time, he loved to bowl and also enjoyed driving the hay wagon for many years at Rich's Fright Farm. He is survived by his children, Linda J. Mongell and her husband, George, of Connellsville, Joe Cellurale Jr., of Uniontown, and Marcie Sangston and her husband, Mark, of Lemont Furnace; grandchildren, Maria Bigham, George J. Mongell, Joey A. Cellurale, Lacie Cellurale and Tasha Davis and her husband, Danny; six great-grandchildren including his "Special Little Girl," Kirra Jean Davis; sister, Lydia Ann Rich, of Smithfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat, Boo-Boo. Dog and Daughter
Of H. J. Cence Join
In Battle With Bull
A St. Bernard dog and the daughter of Henry J. Cence, Miss Grace, in addition to a grandson, Harold Gower, figured in the battle with a vicious bull which fatally injured Mr. Cence at his home on the Paull Farm, near Dunbar. While Harold, 14 years old, fought the frenzied animal with a pitchfork as it gored Mr. Cence, and the dog battled to save his master's life, Grace finally managed to coax the animal into the barn with feed. The battle with the bull took place Tuesday morning. Mr. Cence died the following day. The Cences had resided on the Paull farm for 10 years. Previous to that time, Mr. Cence managed the Wilhelm and Peck farms in Somerset County. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 o'clock at the home, with burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Anthony Cerullo, 70, of Masontown, died Sunday in Uniontown Hospital. He operated a tavern in Masontown for 15 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of All Saints R. C. Church and the Italian � American Club of Masontown. Surviving are his widow, Ermina, and two children, Mrs. John (Antionette) Mantenuti and Joseph of Masontown. A prayer service will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at the family home, followed by a requiem high mass at 9 a.m. at All Saints R. C. Church. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Leckrone.

Roy C. Chaffin
Roy C. Chaffin, 91 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was born Monday, April 17, 1921 in Jackson County, Tennessee to Ben Chaffin and Edna (Pippin) Chaffin. Roy was both a retired Sawmill Operator and Farmer. He was a Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy aboard the Destroyer 357 USS Selfridge that was engaged in three major battles in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. While working in Detroit, Michigan, Roy met Miss Grace Elizabeth Burnsworth from Ohiopyle, Pa., and was also working in Detroit. On Friday, December 21, 1945 in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, Roy married Grace. They lived in Ohiopyle for fifteen years until 1960 when they moved into the home they had built in Maple Summit, Stewart Township, (Mill Run mailing address) and remained there until 1983. Roy worked for 20 years at Tom Burnworth�s Garage in Ohiopyle after his marriage. He operated a sawmill from 1965 to 1982 in Pennsylvania and from 1982 until 2008 in Cookeville, Tennessee. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Grace Elizabeth (Burnsworth) Chaffin; brother, Robert Chaffin; and two sisters, Winnie Chaffin and Mildred Chaffin Pippin. Services were conducted on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the WHITSON FUNERAL HOME 30 North Dixie Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501 (931.526.2151). Burial followed in the John Young Cemetery, their family cemetery established by Roy�s great grandfather John Young in Jackson County, Tennessee. Visitation was held on Friday, July 6, at the Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. until Service time at 11 a.m. Mr. Greg Harger and Mrs. Linda Dietz officiated at the Service. Raymond Cole, David Cummins, Andy Bouton, Fred Bouton, Dave Whittington, and Keith Thorpe served as pall bearers.

Raymond F. Chaikcik, 83, of Smock died Monday Jan. 29, 1996, in Mount Macrina Manor. He was born Nov. 26, 1912, in Nowashucz, Poland, son of Kostanty and Tekla Suehowicz Chaikcik. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Veronica Rebidos Chaikcik in May 1992, a son, Mark Chaikcik in 1994, a sister, Sophia, and two infant brothers, John and Julius. He was a member of St. Hedwig R.C. Church, First Catholic Slovak Union and United Mine Workers of America. He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Chaikcik and wife, Dorothy, of Vanderbilt, Ronald Chaikcik and wife, Dolly, of Perryopolis, two daughters, Vilma Shumaker and husband, Wayne, of Houston, Texas, and Nadine Sethman and husband, Randy, of Smock, Pa., 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several loving cousins. Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOME, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, today from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 1, until 9:15 a.m. when a blessing service will be held, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Hedwig R.C. father, John Kell, on Friday evening, July 6th, 1888. Her remains were interred
at Hill Grove cemetery at this place, on Sunday. The deceased was a sister of
H. B. Kell, with Hood Bros. & Co., of this place, and leaves a husband and
two small children to mourn her loss. The deceased was a kind wife and an affectionate
christian mother, and the family have the sympathy of all friends in their affliction.

At his residence in East Liberty, Fayette co., on the 30th ult., of Typhoid Fever
and Rheumatism, Dr. CHARLES R. CHALFANT, aged about 35 years.
The deceased has been removed from a career of usefulness in the prime of life.
He leaves a devoted wife and a large circle of relatives, as well as the entire
circle of his acquaintance to mourn his loss.
As a Physician he had been very successful, and stood high with the members of
the profession and the community. As a citizen and friend he was a high
toned honorable gentleman, agreeable and affectionate in all his intercourse,
and true and steadfast in his friendships. As a christian, he witnessed
a good profession, and his kind words, and happy countenance spread a good influence
wherever he moved. His life though short was entirely successful, and as
such is worthy of imitation; he was much loved while he lived, and is now deeply
lamented. He died in the triumphs of faith in Jesus Christ, and gave abundant
evidence that to him death was but a transition from the cares of life to the
enjoyment of eternal happiness.

Mrs. Charlotte Chalfant, died at her late home at Keisterville, Saturday, Jan. 28th, at 2:45 a.m., of pneumonia. She was 79 years and four months old and widow of the late George W. Chalfant. She is survived by one brother, Francis S. Blincoe, of Columbus, Kan., and the following children: Benjamin and Blanch, at home; Charles F. Chalfant and Mrs. Myrtle Whetsel, of Uppermiddletown; Mrs. Lillian. Arison, of Flatwoods; Russell of Brownsville.

ELIZABETH CHALFANT, widow of the late Dr. S B Chalfant, of Upper Middletown, Pa., was born March 5, 1826, and died at the residence of her father Josiah King, in Perry township, Fayette Co., Jan. 10, 1889. The interment occurred at Mt. Washington cemetery on Sunday following, at 10 AM, services conducted by the Rev A E Husted, assisted by the Rev's A H Norcross and T H Wilkenson, former pastors of the deceased. For over forty years she had been a member of the church, and for many years her house at Upper Middletown was the home of the preachers, who always found hospitable and entertainment. Her religious life was steady, consistent, harmonious; rather the even noiseless flow of a deep stream than the bolsterous turbulence of rocks and shoals. She leaves an aged father, an only daughter, four sons and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss, but their loss is her eternal gain. The ladies' aid society of Perryopolis in resolutions of respect very truly speak of her as "a sister who in all the relations of life illustrated a noble character by deeds of kindness." (clipped) infinite wisdom to remove from our midst, Mrs. Elizabeth Chalfant, widow of Dr S B Chalfant; thereto be it Resolved, That the members of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Perryopolis Methodist Episcopal church review her death with feelings of the most profound sorrow. EPHRAIM KING CHALFANT
E. K. Chalfant Died At Perryopolis; Was Former Postmaster Ephriam King Chalfant, 79 years, four months and 35 days old, storekeeper and former postmaster at Perryopolis, died Tuesday night at 9:15 o'clock at the home of a son, Chads Chalfant, at Perryopolis from complications. He had been ill for six months. Mr. Chalfant was a son of the late Dr Samuel B and Elizabeth Chalfant, the former a pioneer physician of Fayette county, and for many years a resident of Upper Middletown where the son was born. Mr Chalfant was married to Ada Wells of Jefferson township in 1901 who preceded him in death June 1, 1914. He is survived by four sons, Ottis W Chalfant of Portland, Ore., Major Ray K Chalfant of Richmond, Ind., Charles F Chalfant of Barnesville, Ohio, and Chads Chalfant of Perryopolis. There is one brother, James K Chalfant of Hickory, Washington county. Three grandchildren also survive. They are King and Elizabeth Chalfant of Richmond, Ind., and Dorothy Bee Chalfant of Perryopolis. Mr Chalfant spent the early part of his life at Upper Middletown and later resided at Star Junction, being engaged in farming, and then moved to Perryopolis where he was proprietor of a general store and also served as postmaster. He had been retired about 15 years. He was organizer of the county local option movement about 15 years ago and always was immensely interested in public affairs and never missed casting a ballot at every election- primary and general since he became of age. He went to the polls last fall. Mr Chalfant was a staunch Republican. The body will remain at the Chads Chalfant home until Friday noon where it may be viewed. Then it will be taken to the Wade Funeral Home at Perryopolis where the funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock. Rev Carl E Chapman, pastor of the Perryopolis Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mt Washington Cemetery.

FLETCHER CHARLES CHALFANT
CHALFANT -Fletcher Charles Chalfant, third son of Dr S B and Elizabeth Chalfant was born at Uppermiddletown, Pa., January 21, 1863, and died at the residence of his grandfather, Josiah King, in Perry township, March 18, 1886. Funeral services conducted by Rev D H McKee, assisted by Rev Josiah Mansell, and the remains were followed to the Mount Washington cemetery by a large concourse of, relatives and friends, where they were deposited beneath the shadow of the family monument. Thus ended in the early morning of his manhood, a life, the brilliancy of whose intellect commanded the admiration of all who knew him, and whose generous disposition won the love and respect of all his associates. Until Charlie was seven years old, he was like other boys. But at this time while at play at school, he met with an accident which changed his entire future and which resulted in a disease of the hip bone, with which he suffered the pangs of a thousand deaths; and, but for the tender attention of his mother, and the utmost exertion of his father's skill he would never have survived this terrible affliction. But with these advantages, to-gether with his own native force, we find him after five or six years able to travel around with a crutch, and although badly crippled his disease was mastered so far as his hip was concerned. But at this period his parents were horrified to see manifestations of lung disease, and at the age of 15 years we find him trying the western climate. A year later he tries the highlands of Colorado, making a strong and vigorous fight for his life. He visited Denver, Pueblo, the various parks, Maniton, with it's mineral springs, and finally selecting Colorado Springs as his headquarters where he remained for five years. For two or three years the rarefied air of that elevated country, together with the faithful maternal care of Miss A A Warren, the proprietress of the Hotel Antlers with whom he stopped, did greatly benefit him for the time. The transferring of passengers to Crystal Park hotel, sightseeing of tourists and regular camp life, each in turn was tried as his strength would permit, and when too feeble to endure fatigue Miss Warren was ever ready with some pleasant and profitable employment which was recreative as well as remunerative. But it became evident the last two years that he stayed in Colorado that his health was declining and in the spring of 1884 his sister visited him and induced him to return to his native state in hope that if the change of climate would not arrest the ravages of the disease it would at least bring him to his home, where his friends might surround him with the comforts he could enjoy; and while Charlie had many friends who were willing to make any sacrifice for his pleasure there was an attachment between him and his only sister that was super-human. She was constantly at his side when she could render any comfort and has the satisfaction of knowing that every wish he made was gratified, and when it was apparent to all that the end was fast approaching, he besought her and his aunt to "stand by me to the end," and with faithful loving hearts and constant willing hands, they were ever ready to anticipate a wish or translate the meaning of a glance. With watching and praying they alleviated all his suffering possible and when but a few hours were left for him to suffer and when his friends were held in breathless suspense it seemed as though their cup of bitterness no yet full, and to intensify the agony, a message was received announcing the death of Dr E L King, a son, a brother and uncle of those watching and waiting, but Charlie never knew it in this world. And when the sunlight of a new day appeared, the death angel came and found him ready. He said he was not afraid to die. He died in the hope that "everything was all right," leaving a message to "meet him in heaven," His friends followed him to the very crumbling verge of eternity, and when he had "forded the river" their souls went out until they could almost hear the wave breaking on the other shore.

George W. Chalfant, aged 39 years, died suddenly Wednesday night, May 12, 1926, at his home near Upper Middletown in Franklin township. Mr. Chalfant was the son of Mrs. Charlotte Chalfant and the late George W. Chalfant. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Feuster Chalfant and three children, Robert, Cora and Charlotte. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Blanche of Brownsville, Charles, Benjamin and Mrs. W. B. Whetzel of Upper Middletown; Mrs. Lillian Arison of Flatwoods and Russell Chalfant of Lake Worth, Fla. Funeral services will be held in the home Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o�clock followed by burial in Highland cemetery, California, Pa.

Josiah King CHALFANT
J King Chalfant, aged 68, former well-known resident of Perry township, died
at 5:30 Sunday morning, April 3, 1938, after a lingering illness. He was a charter member
of the Knights of Pythias lodge in Hickory and a lifelong member of the United
Presbyterian church.Mr Chalfant was born June 13, 1870, in Uppermiddletown, a
son of Dr and Mrs Samuel B Chalfant. He spent most of his life in Perry township
and was a farmer in Washington county before retiring at his home in Hickory.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs Winnie Rankin Chalfant; two daughters, Mrs S L McCalmont
and Mrs Everett Philips, both of Hickory, and two grandchildren, Ruth and Ted
McCalmont. Funeral rites will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the home
at Hickory in charge of Rev John Louden, pastor of the Hickory U P church. Private
burial will follow in Mr Prospect cemetery in Hickory.

CHALFANT
Mrs. Margaret CHALFANT, relict of the Rev. Chadds CHALFANT, died near Brownsville, Pennsylvania, on the 19th Dec. last, in the 82d year of her age. We extract the following account of this mother in Israel from a more full account by brother Boyd of the Pittsburgh conference. The deceased was born in Loudon county, Virginia, December the 31st, 1755. Her maiden name was M'MANIMAN. In her 21st years, she was united in marriage with Mr. Chadds CHALFANT. They were permitted to enjoy this happy union about fifty-four years; and were blessed with twelve children, seven of whom are still living, while five are gone to rest: three were called away in the days of infancy, and two in riper years. -- Mother Chalfont's death was preceded by that of her husband about seven years and six months. They were among the early settlers in the neighborhood of Brownsville; and the first fruits of Methodism in that place. It seems that the Rev. Daniel HITT, of precious memory, was the first Methodist preacher that found his way to the habitation of father and mother Chalfant; and delivered the first Methodist sermon for that neighborhood, in their house, on the 3d of May, 1794: and on the 14th of July following, he embraced their house as a regular preaching place: and four weeks after, on the 12th day of August, a class of four persons was formed, including father and mother CHALFANT.
Mother CHALFANT did not enjoy religion at this time, but still held on as an earnest seeker, until the last of December following, when it pleased the Lord to give her the knowledge of salvation, by the remission of her sins, in a class meeting. This was about the thirty-ninth year of her age. From this time she still held on her way, adorning her profession by an upright life, until the thirteenth year of her christian pilgrimage, when on the 3d of May, 1807, while in a class meeting, wrestling earnestly for "a clean heart," the Lord was pleased to give her a clear evidence of entire sanctification, which great blessing she retained in all its power and glory to the end of life; including a period a little over thirty years.
We have seen, from the outline just drawn, that mother CHALFANT professed to be sanctified wholly, as well as to be justified freely, and that these were distinct blessings. some twelve or thirteen years intervening between; that she fixed definite time and place to each. Hence, as she professed to enjoy justification and sanctification, as blessings revealed to the heart by the direct testimony of the Holy Ghost.
For a considerable time previous to her death, she was gradually sinking under the weight of her years. And, besides this general infirmity, she was, several times during the last two or three years of her life, greatly prostrated by the hand of affliction. In this way, she was made unusually familiar with "the valley of the shadow of death," ere she was called to enter it. She was almost entirely confined to her bed during the last four months of her life. Her sufferings, which were great, during her last confinement, she bore with that meekness and patience that became the perfect christian. She had lingered so long, with but little more than a vital spark, that her friends could not discover any change for several days previous to her death. Her mental powers did not forsake her to the last: and though she had previously suffered much, she expired at last without a struggle or a groan: and thus sweetly fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, about 8 o'clock, on Tuesday evening, the 19th of December, 1837. Her last testimony was that her work was done, and that she was ready to go.

Jess T. Chambers, 63, of West Brownsville, a native of Vanderbilt, died suddenly at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Howard Bradley, at Lorain, Ohio, Thursday afternoon. He was a formerly employed as a payroll clerk by the W. J. Rainey Company plant at Mount Braddock. At the time of his death, he was working for the Hillman Coal Company as chief payroll clerk. He was employed at the Clyde mine in Greene county. He was born at Vanderbilt May 5, 1889. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Paisley Chambers; a daughter, Mrs. Milo Fleming, Jr., a grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Ella Thompson of Mount Braddock, and two brothers, Frank of Uniontown and Otto of Detroit, Mich. The body was taken to the Kisinger funeral home at Brownsville where the funeral service will be held at 2 o�clock Monday afternoon. Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.

�Aunt Sis� Chaney Dies Thursday
One of Uniontown�s most beloved residents, Mrs. Sara Ellen Barclay Chaney, aged 70, affectionately known throughout the community as �Aunt Sis,� died at 1:30 Thursday afternoon, July 21, 1938, at the home of a sister, Mrs. Charles H. Cale, 58 Stewart avenue, with whom she lived for many years. Mrs. Chaney, the mother of Patrolman Harry Chaney, was a resident of Uniontown for over 50 years. She had been ill from a complication of diseases for eight months or longer, and her death yesterday was attributed to cerebral hemorrhage. She was born July 4, 1868 in Greene county, a daughter of William Henry and Martha Areford Barclay. After moving to Uniontown she lived in East Fayette and Grant streets before establishing her home in Stewart avenue. Surviving are two sons, Harry and Ray Chaney; two brothers, Fire Chief William H. Barclay and Norval L. Barclay; one sister, Mrs. Charles H. Cale; six grandchildren: Ruth Watts, Minor, Herbert and Charles Chaney, Elizabeth Small, and Harry, Jr. Three great grandchildren, William Hatfield Chaney and Nancy and Shirley Small also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Chaney, in 1904; two brothers, George M., in 1924, and Harry, 1904. A sister, Miss Phoebe Barclay, died August 25, 1937. Mrs. Chaney was one of the early members of the old Cumberland township Presbyterian church at Muddy Creek near Khedive. Until ill health compelled her to remain at home, she also was a devout member of the Third Presbyterian church of Uniontown. The body will be removed from the J. Harry Johnston & Sons mortuary to the Cale residence at 10 o�clock this morning, where friends will be received until the time of the funeral set for 2 o�clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Plummer Harvey, supply minister of the Third Presbyterian church, and Rev. James C. Clark, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Oak Grove cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the following first cousins to the deceased: Frank and Neal Wood, John and Israel Barclay, and G. Carl and Earl S. Areford.

Word was received here today of the death of Mrs. Kathleen Chaplick Friday in Willard, Ohio. The body is being shipped to Connellsville and will arrive at 10:45 o�clock Sunday morning over the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Funeral Director Milton V. Munk will remove it to his establishment in North Pittsburgh street where it will lie in state until 2 o�clock Monday afternoon, the time of the funeral service. Dr. W. H. Hetrick, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Estella Woodward plot in Hill Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Chaplick was a former resident of this city.

Rose J. Chapman of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Connellsville, daughter of the late Vinko and Rozalija Marolt, passed away July 17, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Chapman. She is survived by two sons, Dennis and fianc�e Leah Neill, and Keith; a sister, Angeline and husband Douglas Gemas; a step-daughter, Linda Crisp; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Exactly one year later, to the minute, after Horace B. CHASE, II, of Palm Beach,
Fla., and New York, executed his will, he met death in an airplane crash at West
palm Beach, Fla. CHASE executed his last will and testament at 5:45 p.m.,
May 19, 1927. He watch, which stopped when a plane in which he was riding
nosedived, carrying both him and his pilot, John H. DeMOTT, to their death, ceased

Elizabeth D. CHECK (1917-1997)
Elizabeth D. Check, 80, of Buffington, Pa., passed away Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at her residence. She was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Mount Pleasant, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Hnatt. She was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church of Footedale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Check in 1995; a son, Edward; and the following sisters and brothers, Margaret Milinsky, Ann Matusovic, Joseph Hnatt and Edward Hnatt. Surviving are the following children, Elizabeth D�amico of Youngstown, Ohio, Joseph Check Jr., of Denbo Heights, Pa., Patricia Malinoski of Culpepper, Va., John Check of Uniontown and Margaret Ann Check of New Salem; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Nalepka of Buffington, Regina Rosenblum of Long Island, N.Y., Helen McCarthy of Port Washington, N.Y., and Josephine Piculin of Suffer, N.Y. at 11 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 1931, following a prolonged illness. In

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Merial Chernock; a sister, Mary J. Habina; and a brother, Andrew M. Chernock. Mr. Chernock was employed at Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #20, Uniontown. He was a Lutheran by faith. Surviving are a brother, Julius J. Chernock of Ashtabula, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret H. McClintock of Hopwood and Anna M. Huff of Monson, Maine; and many nephews and nieces. She also had a number of beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Stanley Cherry, 53, of Smock, Fayette County, Pa., passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2006. He was born April 6, 1953, in the Brownsville Hospital, Brownsville, Fayette County, Pa. He was the son of the late William A. and Dolores Cherry. Stanley was a 1971 graduate of the Uniontown Area Senior High School, Fayette County, Pa., and a member of the First Baptist Church, in Smock, Pa. He was employed at the Gateway Coal Mine, Local 5330, for several years, and he was a Vietnam veteran, who served in the United States Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Sylvia Hungerford, and Yvonne Dolores Cherry. He is survived by two daughters: Shayna and Ciara; and the following brothers and sisters: William H. Cherry, of Los Angeles, California, Rev. James C. Cherry, Sr., and wife, Toni, of Jefferson, Greene County, Pa., Gwendolyn L. Cherry, of Grindstone, Fayette County, Pa., Darniece Cherry, of Smock, and Drena J. Cherry, of Hampton, Virginia.

Funeral services for Lewis Chesla, 23, Centerville Borough, employee of the Vesta Coal Company who died Tuesday in Brownsville General Hospital, will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's church, Cardale with burial in the church cemetery. The body was removed to Hagan's funeral home, Millsboro, and then moved to the home of an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Mazur, Republic, until time for the services.
Surviving are an aunt, Mrs. Stanley Ligerz of Republic, and his mother, Mrs. Sophia Chesla: brother, Edward and sister Genevieve, all of Europe.

Infuriated when denied a signature on a card, the nature of which has not been definitely determined, drunk crazed Michael Chibileck, 52, a miner of Amend Works, shot Mrs. Rebecca Martin, 45, twice in the head, killing her instantly, then sent a .38 calibre revolver bullet crashing into his own brain, his lifeless body falling across that of his victim. The double tragedy occurred about 7:30 o�clock last evening in the home of Mrs. Martin while her two younger daughters, Virginia, 13, and Evelyn, 10, looked on. The older of the two girls grappled with the man when he drew his revolver but failed to prevent the shooting when he threw her frantically against the living room wall in the pretty little five-room cottage home.
Issued Threats
According to Mrs. Helen Early, 23, another daughter of Mrs. Martin, Chibileck had been staging a drinking party with her mother�s brother-in-law, Harry Dean. After returning from work at the Gargardi plant No. 10, at Gilmore, Chibileck, Mrs. Early said went to Dean�s home and gave him his mining tools saying: �I won�t need them any more.� That, she said was in the middle of the afternoon. Later, as he prepared to leave, Mrs. Martin quoted Dean as saying that Chibileck said he was �going down to kill Mrs. Martin.� Dean, however, is quoted as saying he �didn�t think much about it� and made no attempt to prevent his friend�s departure.
Virginia, the older of the two girls who were at home with their mother when Chibileck entered the house, said the man �seemed all right.� But after only a short time she heard him arguing with her mother about �signing a card of some kind. Mother told him she could read and refused to sign the card until she could talk with someone,� Virginia said. �I was just passing the living room door when I saw Chibileck draw a gun. I rushed in and grabbed his arm but he threw me against the wall. Just as I turned to get up I saw him point the gun at Mother and fire twice. Then he put it against his head and fired again. I screamed but couldn�t do anything.
Hear Two Shots
Evelyn, 10, the other sister, hearing the shots, rushed into the living room and upon seeing the two bodies on the floor, rushed from the house screaming for help. Mrs. Early, who was in her own home, some distance from that of her mother, at the time, said she heard Evelyn screaming almost immediately after what she believed to have been a muffled shot. Her husband, Eugene Early, and a friend, Levi Lindsey, were together some distance away and both said they heard two shots. It was the son-in-law who first entered the house to find the bodies lying in pools of blood at the foot of a davenport. Mrs. Martin and her daughter, Mrs. Early, had returned from Uniontown only a few hours prior to the tragedy. They had made the trip to send money to their son and brother, Pfc. James McDonald Martin, with the U. S. Marines in the South Pacific. Yesterday, August 3, was his 21st birthday anniversary. News of his mother�s death will be the second such tragedy the young Marine has suffered. He was working with his father, James C. Martin, when the latter was killed, July 9, 1942, by a fall of slate in the Phillips mine. The double tragedy was investigated by Coroner Herrington, Assistant County Detective Forrest Parke and State Troopers John Gettier and William Vilseek.
Leaves Four Children
Body of Mrs. Martin was removed to the Sharp Funeral Home, Fairchance. Chibileck�s body was removed to the Haky Funeral Home, Uniontown. Mrs. Martin is survived by four children: Virginia and Evelyn, at home; Mrs. Early, of Amend, and James.
Chibileck, whose wife preceded him in death five years ago, leaves five children: Rose, at home; Margaret and Katherine, of New York; Stephen, of Amend; Joseph, overseas with the armed forces.

A daughter of Mrs. Martin, Virginia, 13, tried to ward off the

resided a few hundred yards from the Martin home.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mack of Toledo, Ohio and Mrs. Catherine Schmidt of Tampa, Florida. Preceding him in death was one brother, Russell, in 1971. He was a member of St. John�s R.C. Church. Brownsville Man Falls Under Train, Killed
William Chinn, 24�year�old Brownsville Negro, died at 6:15 o�clock Tuesday evening in the Brownsville General hospital after he was found lying along the Monongahela railroad near Dunlap early in the afternoon with an amputated left leg. He is believed to have suffered the injury when he fell beneath the wheels of a train he attempted to board. Chinn was removed to the hospital by Andrew Pascarell. The only known survivor is a mother, little being known about the man although he was a familiar figure in Brownsville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Belle Chipps, 53 years old, wife of William J. Chipps, died Thursday at her home at Gans.
CLARK CHIPPS
Clark Chipps, 59 years old, well-known farmer of Georges township died suddenly at noon Wednesday while walking in the vicinity of his homestead near Gilmore. His body was discovered by a son, Ernest. Medical examination revealed that he had been dead for several hours. Death was attributed to heart disease.
CHIPPS, GEORGE W., aged 72 years, died suddenly at his home, 232 Derrick avenue, at 1:30 o�clock Wednesday morning, November 28, 1945. For many years he operated the Chipps Dairy in this city and has been employed by the Garner Dairy Co. for the last fourteen years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lauretta Lewis Chipps, two brothers, Charles of Haydentown and Thomas of Morgantown, W. Va., one sister, Mrs. Anna Cooley of Outcrop. Funeral services will be held from the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o�clock with Dr. Carey S. Osborne of the Great Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Glenn W. Chisnell, 93, of Uniontown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Uniontown Hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Farmington. He was the son of the late Josephine Sanner and George Chisnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lelia (Sullivan) Chisnell; and brother, Charles Chisnell. He was a graduate of Uniontown High School class of 1937. Glenn worked as a superintendent at Martin- Marrietta Stone Quarry for more than 35 years before his retirement. He also served in the Army during World War II in the North African and European Theater of Operations. Glenn is survived by his daughters, Linda Greene and her husband, Daniel, of Washington, Pa., Kim Mager and husband, Brian, of Uniontown, Peggy Graff and husband, David, of Greensburg, and Kathy Pecsko and husband, Jerome, of Uniontown; six grandchildren, Brian Craft, Cory Craft and wife, Erica, Sarah Kovach, Casey Kovach, Morgan Pescko and Seth Mager and wife, Jami; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, where the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Friday. Edward Chissell, 27, son of John and Tressa Chissell, died at 6 a.m., Sunday, in the St. Elizabeth hospital, Youngstown, Ohio, following an illness of about six weeks duration. The body will be brought to Masontown and funeral services will be held in the All Saints church, Wednesday at 9 a.m., in charge of the pastor, Fr. S. J. Kolb. CHARLES CHOCOLA
Charles Chocola, aged 37 years, died at the home of his brother, Frank Chocola, 14 Herman avenue, Tuesday morning, March 10, 1925, at 5:40 o�clock following a lingering illness. He had been employed by the Westinghouse Electric company in Pittsburgh until last August when he was forced to give up his work because of ill health. He was employed by the concern for 19 years, lacking only one year until his retirement, as a Westinghouse veteran. Mr. Chocola was unmarried and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Barbara Chocola; three brothers, Jack, Frank and Joe Chocola, all well known local printers, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Raffle. Funeral services will be held from the home of Frank Chocola Thursday afternoon at 2 o�clock with the Rev. Frank Hollinshead, pastor of Great Bethel Baptist church, officiating. Five men were instantly killed and four injured in an explosion at the Taylor shaft of the Taylor Coal & Coke Company, half a mile from Searights on the National Pike, near Uniontown, at five o�clock this morning. Mine Inspector I. G. Roby of the Fifth district thinks the accident due to a gas explosion.

George Thomas, foreman in charge of the work at the time of the explosion if fatally injured. It was not thought that he could live during the journey from the shaft to the Uniontown Hispotal, where he was taken at 10 o�clock. Thomas is a colored man.

The three latter injured will all recover. They are burned painfully about the head and shoulders. The Taylor mine is down just 94 feet. It is being sunk by Patterson & McNeil, a shaft sinking firm. The coal, which lies at a depth of 200 feet, has not been struck yet. The shift, most of whom were killed, went to work last night at 11 o�clock. They were working on a platform about 20 feet from the mouth of the shaft putting timbers up for a concrete wall. Several of the workmen were about the top of the shaft, while others were on the platform below.

He is survived by five daughters, Mildred, Evelyn and Julia, at home; Mrs. Samuel Gelotti of Belle Vernon and Mrs. John Davis of Fairhope; one son, Walter, of Belle Vernon, and eight grandchildren. Joseph E. CHRISTOFF (1911-1996)
Joseph E. Christoff, 85, of Palmdale, Calif., formerly of Masontown, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, in the Lancaster Health Care Center, Lancaster, Calif. He was born March 26, 1911, in Smock, Pa., son of the late Stefan and Maria (Litecky) Kristof. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (Kolar) Christoff, in 1944; a sister, Agnes Prichard, and brothers, John Christoff and Philip Christoff. Mr. Christoff retired from McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corp. in 1976, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. He served his country in World War II by enlisting in the Army. He was in the �Hell on Wheels� unit serving in Sicily, Normandy and Northern France. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in France. Those who knew him also knew of his love for baseball; and in 1954, he was one of the first inductees into the Big Ten Fayette County Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be remembered among the greatest sandlot players of all time, �Pa� has gone on to his field of dreams. Alberta Lois (Ramage) Christopher, 81, of Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa., passed away Monday, February 26, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital. She was born November 29, 1925, in Lamberton, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Daniel Ramage and Elizabeth Black Ramage.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. (Weasel) Christopher, sons, Lewis Gene and Patrick Lee Christopher, twin great-granddaughters, Haley and Guelermo; and great-grandsons, Chase William and James Westley, brothers, John Arthur, George, Kenneth, and Dale Ramage, sisters, Eleanor Kerr-Calvecante, Marvel Irene Ramage, Elizabeth Baker-Dryden and Garnet Close.

Anna King Gadd Christopher, 97, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at 7:45 a.m., in the Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, Pa., where she had resided since January, 1992. She was born May 9, 1907, in Jefferson, Pa., Greene County. Anna moved with her parents and sister to East Riverside, Fayette County, at the age of 2. She spent most of her lifetime in Fayette County. Anna resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Dale Jones, until she became a resident of Presbyterian Senior Care in Washington, Pa., following a stroke in 1992. Anna was a member of Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, and Hopewell and Franklin Grange. She worked at Isabelle Company Store, Central Elementary School Cafeteria as a cook, and at the Uniontown Hospital Gift Shop. Anna was blessed with the ability to enjoy life and share her love of God with everyone. Her favorite things were visiting with her family and friends and reading her Bible.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John Winfield and Elsie Nixon King; her first husband of 33 years, William James Gadd; her second husband of 17 years, Ernest R. Christopher; a sister, Edith King Goss; a brother, James W. King; a stepdaughter, Suzanne King; and stepson, Dennis Christopher.
Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Lynda Gadd Jones and her husband, Dale of Uniontown; a grandson, Kevin D. Jones and his wife, Mary Ellen of Uniontown; great-grandchildren, Emily and Quinn Jones of Uniontown; a stepson, Lewis Christopher and his wife, Ruby of Uniontown; a step-grandson, Gary Christopher and his wife, Linda of Uniontown, and their daughters, Carrie Fascetti and her husband, Matthew and Lisa; and a step-granddaughter, Debi Christopher Bailey and her husband, Bob of Springboro, Ohio, and their son, Travis; a step son-in-law, Lawrence King of Smock, and children, Connie Frankenberry and her husband, Rob and daughter, Faran of Crownsville, Md., Mark King and his wife, Judy of Maple Shade, N.J., and their children, Chasity and Brandon, Lawrence King Jr., and his wife, Regiena of Pensacola, Fla., and Thomas King and his wife, Jacqueline of Oaksdale, Pa., and their sons, Christopher, William, Tyler and Trevor.
The family will receive friends in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem, on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Dr. David Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Redstone Cemetery, Brownsville, Pa.

Delbert L. CHRISTOPHER (1916-2010)
Delbert L. Christopher, 94, of Lebanon, Pa. and formerly of Smithfield, Pa. passed away on October 31, 2010. He was born October 14, 1916, in Fairchance, Pa. son of the late Harvey R. Christopher and Helen Wilson Christopher. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two sons, Delbert L. Christopher Jr. and Donald B. Christopher; brothers, Glenn Christopher and Harvey W. Christopher. Delbert was a self employed painting contractor. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the Alfred Wilson Memorial VFW Post 7219 in Fairchance and a life member of the Hutchinson Sportsmen's Club.
Surviving are his grandchildren: Dawn Cavic and husband David, Lebanon, Pa., Denise Puskaric and husband Scott, North Huntingdon, Pa., Delbert Christopher III, Springfield, Missouri, Matthew Christopher, Springfield, Missouri and Debbie Wernimont and husband Steve, Warrensburg, Missouri; great grandchildren, Alexander Puskaric, Nathaniel Cavic, Nicholas Puskaric and Taylor Bralynn Christopher; daughters-in-law, Corliss Christopher, Greensburg, Pa. and Sarah Christopher, Springfield, Missouri.

Dennis R. CHRISTOPHER (1927-1996)
Dennis R. Christopher, 68, of Preston, Iowa, and formerly of Fayette County, Pa., who served as mayor of Preston from 1975 to 1981 and as police chief from 1981 to 1992 and established the first full-time police department in Preston, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996. He is survived by his wife whom he married Dec. 9, 1968, Lora Logan Christopher, a sister, Suzanna R. Christopher King of Smock R.D. 1, Pa., and a brother, Lewis Christopher of Uniontown, Pa. Services and interment were held Tuesday, Oct. 8, under direction of the Miller Funeral Home, Main St., Preston, Iowa.

Donald B. Christopher, 61, of Greensburg, Pa., died Sunday, October 16, 2005, in his home. Mr. Christopher was born July 2, 1944 in Uniontown, Pa., son of Delbert L. and Marie V. Christopher. He was a retired Pennsylvania State Police Officer, Troop A. Greensburg, Pa. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting trap. He was a member of the Sheffield Rod and Gun Club, Youngwood Sportsman Club and various other trap leagues. As a young boy, he attained the honor of Eagle Scout. He attended West Virginia University and then served his country as a Pennsylvania National Guardsman.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie V. Christopher and his brother, Delbert L. Christopher, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Corliss (Allamon) Christopher; two daughters: Dawn, wife of David Cavic of Lebanon, Pa. and Denise, wife of Scott Puskaric of North Huntingdon, Pa.; two grandsons: Alexander Puskaric and Nathaniel Cavic; and his father, Delbert L. Christopher of Smithfield, Pa.

Simpsonville — Dorothy Lois Barnhart Christopher, 81, of 130 Forest Lake Drive, died Dec. 22, 2003, at her residence. Born in Uniontown, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Edward R. and Helen R. Griffith Barnhart and was the widow of James Lee Christopher. She was the owner and operator of Mauldin Health Food Store and was a nutritional consultant. Mrs. Christopher was a member of Harrison Bridge Road Associate Reform Presbyterian Church. She held Bible study groups in her home for many years and also attended many Bible studies. She was a loving wife, mother and Nana who enjoyed helping others.
Surviving are two daughters, Lois L. Caler and her husband, Willis L. Caler, of Simpsonville and Sheri L. Acierno of Ashtabula, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michele, Michael, Christopher and Rachael; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sara Grace, Emma, Michael and Nathan; a sister, Thelma Hileman, Uniontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, 2519 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Rev. Earl Lewis CHRISTOPHER, Jr. (1954-2004)
The Rev. Earl Lewis Christopher Jr., age 50, of Uniontown, Pa., died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, in the Uniontown Hospital after a lengthy illness with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born February 10, 1954, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Blanche E. (Krepps) Christopher and Earl L. Christopher, Sr. Earl was a member of the McClellandtown Free Methodist Church and had been an ordained Minister with the All Faith Church of God since 1975. He graduated from Uniontown Area High School, Class of 1972. Earl was employed with Stahl's Hotronix in Paisley Park, Carmichaels, Pa., as a Shipping Clerk. He loved his job and everyone with whom he worked. He had also been previously employed by Reese Wholesale in Rubles Mill, J. K. Packing and the Paul Sprowls Agency both in Uniontown. He was employed by United States Steel's Mount Braddock Mine for 10 years.
Earl will always be remembered as a great man of God who had a strong faith in the Lord he served. He never complained or asked why, when trials came his way-only that the Lord would help him through those trials. Anyone who ever knew or met Earl was forever touched by his compassionate and loving heart! He was an inspiration to all those who knew and loved him, a gentle giant. He enjoyed worshipping with his family at his side, farming, fishing with his children, and going on special outings with his wife and children, whom he loved with a passion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the stockyard with his brothers and nephews. "If love could have kept him here, he never would have gone."
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Keith Gerald, and his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Judy Lynn (Reese) Christopher, whom he married on June 13, 1992, and his three children, Sara Elisabeth, Earl "E. J." III and Anna Grace, whom he loved more than life itself and was so very proud of! Also surviving are his loving brothers and sister: Charles W. Christopher Sr. and his wife, Barbara, of McClellandtown, Pa., Lori L. Figler of McClellandtown, and Kevin A. Christopher and his fianc�e, Janeen Krepps, of Brier Hill, Pa.; his special niece, Rachel Sharp and her husband, Douglas, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and his nephew, Charles W. Christopher Jr. of Uniontown whom he loved dearly as a son; and many other special nieces, nephews, and family members.

CHRISTOPHER, ERNEST — Age 72 years of Uniontown, died Sunday, June 29 1980 in the Uniontown Hospital He was born October 24, 1907, in German Twp., the son of the late, Dennis R. and Elsie Staley Christopher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Goldie G. Moody Christopher; a son, Charles and two brothers, Lewis C. and Elliott G. He was a member of Central Christian Church of Uniontown, the Brownsville Lodge No. 6, F&AM, the UMWA, Local 6548 and was a retired machinist with U.S. Steel Corp., Filbert Shop.

Following an illness of complications, Jasper Christopher, aged 84 years, eight months, five days, died at his home near Marianna, at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, June 23, 1935.
Surviving are his widow, Verona Wishart Christopher, and four children, G. S. and H. H. Christopher of Akron, Ohio; Wishart of Beaver Falls and Mrs. Alberta Dunston of New Castle; two brothers, Newton Christopher of Khedive; George, Rice's Landing, and one sister, Mrs. William Grooms of Khedive.
Mr. and Mrs. Christopher celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary two years ago.

An older sister was forced to stand by helpless to give an alarm yesterday afternoon while Kathleen Christopher, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Christopher of Dilliner, Greene county, was plunged to her death against the side of an automobile driven by Mike Wydick of Dilliner.
Eugenia Christopher was at the family home about 100 yards distant as her sister and Marjorie Conn, 13, sped down a hill on a bicycle and crashed into the automobile as it started under the railroad arch at Dilliner. The Conn girl was thrown clear and suffered bruises and shock, but the Christopher girl, who was pedaling the machine, was thrown against the right upper part of the windshield and her body was badly torn as it continued along the side of the car. The bicycle struck the right fender of the automobile.
Albert Eggers and Charles Garrison, who were at the nearby Dilliner post office were summoned and rushed both girls to the office of Dr. A. D. Hunger in Point Marion. The Christopher girl was dead upon arrival, having suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries, while the Conn girl returned home after being treated.
Seeing the girls approaching on the bicycle Wydick applied his brakes and was coming to a stop at the time of the collision. The girls were en route to the home of Mrs. Jane Conn, grandmother of Marjorie. Mrs. Conn lives only a short distance away, on Route 88.

Stricken with heart disease in Locust street att 11 o'clock Monday morning, October 10, R. C. Christopher, aged 68 retired lumber dealer and well known resident of Fayette county, succumbed in the arms of a son, Clarence before a physician could be summoned.
Mr. Christopher, who resided at 19 Mills street, had gone to the Pheasant pens in the rear of the Fowler residence, 27 Locust street, to feed a large flock of Pheasants belonging to his son. After entering one of the pens, Mr. Christopher became suddenly ill and called to his son who reached his side as he collapsed.
Surviving are five sons: Oakie Christopher, Stuebenville, O.; Chas and Clarence, both of Uniontown; Robert, Pt. Marion, and Try, of Brucetown Mills; two daughters. Belva and Roxie, of Mills street, this city. three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Matthews, Fairmont; Mrs. Mattie Cunningham, Smithfield, and Mrs. Rose Greathouse, Point Marion; two brothers, L. S. Christopher, Fairchance, and Elmer, of Terra Alta W. VA., and 18 grandchildren.
Mr. Christopher, a member of the Junior Order Uniter American Mechanics, had been in the lumber business in Pennsylvania and West Virginia for a number of year before moving to Uniontown.
Brief rites will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the family residence in Mill street, followed by the main service at 3:30 in the Pisgah church, Pisgah, W. Va., Rev. Le Roy F. Carter, pastor of the Centre Christian church of Uniontown, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pisgah church cemetery. Funeral director R. L. Sharp, Fairchance.
Friends will be received at the home here until the hour of the services.

Joanna Christovich, 97, of Fairlawn, Ohio, formerly of Uniontown, died Tuesday, April 23, 1996, in Suma-St. Thomas Hospital, Akron, Ohio. She was born March 22, 1899, in Bochnia, Poland, daughter of the late Kasimier and Victoria (Vencek) Dyga. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters. She was a member of St. Johns Christian Mothers. Surviving are four sons, Charles Christovich of Silver Springs, Md., Stanley Christovich of Neptune Beach, Fla., Joseph Christovich of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Frank Christovich of Tallmadge, Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nellie Palone CHRISTY (1909-1996)
Nellie Palone Christy, 87, of West George St., Carmichaels, Pa., who formerly lived in the Crucible and Rices Landing area, died Wednesday evening, December 11, 1996, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg. She was born November 9, 1909, in Fayette County, Pa., daughter of Felix Palone Sr. and Julia DeLucca Palone. On December 19, 1928, she married Dominick Christy Sr. He died August 30, 1957. Mrs. Christy was a homemaker and managed The Home Hotel in Carmichaels for her father in the late 1930�s and early 1940�s. She and her husband had owned a bowling alley from the early to mid 1940�s and then operated a sporting goods business with her husband until his death and also with her son. She retired in 1967. She is survived by one son, Dominick Christy Jr. of Carmichaels with whom she had made her home since her retirement; one brother, Romeo Palone of Carmichaels; one sister, Janet Palone Mundell of Berea, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Josephine Allison, Lena Kessler, and Elvira Aglio, and a brother, Felix Palone Jr. A brief final visitation will be held Monday, December 16, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the BEHM FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 188, Jefferson. A Committal Service, which will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Miller, will immediately follow in Greene County Memorial Park.

Charles Chronis, 78, of Brownsville, owner and operator of Candyland and the American Restaurant in Brownsville for many years, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday in Brownsville General Hospital following a three-week illness. A World War I veteran, he was a charter member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 377 of Brownsville, past Fayette County V.F.W. commander, and past president of the Order of Ahepa Lodge, Uniontown. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 940 of West Brownsville, A. Kramer Axton Post No. 295 of Brownsville, L.O.O. Moose Lodge No. 833 of Brownsville, F.O. Eagles No. 1356 Brownsville, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1344 of Brownsville. He was a Brownsville Councilman for eight years, serving as council representative to the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce. He attended St. Spyridon G. C. Church of Monessen and Christ Episcopal Church of Brownsville. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna roman Chronis; two daughters, five grandchildren and a brother, Samuel of Brownsville. He was predeceased by a son, Alexander, in 1961, and a grandson, Karl Malck, in 1963.

Sergeant Louis I. Chubboy is reported missing in action. The name of Chubboy, one of the most striking figures on Company D is carried in the casualty list announced for today by the War Department. Whether he was taken prisoner and eventually released or will be courted among the number who are never again heard from remains to be determined. It is possible that before long his fate may be cleared up, along with others who have been counted among the missing. Sergeant Chubboy�s home is on a farm a few miles removed from Perryopolis in the direction of Brownsville.
It was under some difficulties that Sergeant Chubboy joined the ranks of the American Expeditionary Forces. Due to the absence of authenticated proof of the naturalization of his father, Louis Chubboy, the young non-com was not permitted to leave with the rest of the command. The proof was forthcoming in due time and Sergeant Chubboy went happily on his way. Arriving in France he was beset with more difficulties and as was told in a letter he traveled over much of France, before finally rejoining his company.
Sergeant Chubboy was of Hungarian parentage and to this fact was due the careful search into his record before he was permitted to embark. This was notwithstanding the fact that he had served for several years in the Regular Army, had been with the army on one expedition into Mexico before the .er.es of revolutions that swept that country and that he was with Company D on its trip to the Mexican border in 1916.
The young officer is descended from a long line of soldiers� Hungarian patriots. His grandfather enjoyed the distinction of having been promoted to a commissioned officer from a sergeantcy� something rare in his day. Practically all his male ancestors took part under various Kossuth in the Hungarian rebellion of 1848 when an unsuccessful effort was made to establish a republic.
Sergeant Chubboy was every inch a soldier. He at once attracted attention by his military bearing. When the 110th Infantry left for overseas, Chubboy was the mess sergeant of Company D. Whether he retained the position after rejoining the command is not known here. Nothing that has been made public has reached the country since that time.

Corporal Laphew Had Rescued the Writer of Letter as He Lay on Field
The death in action of two more members of Company D, 110th, Infantry, is reported in a letter written from American Red Cross Hospital No. 1 on October 27, by Corporal Joseph W. Easton, Jr., of that command, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Easton of Trevor street. In this letter Corporal Easton says:
�Pat McManus was just in to see me. You know his father used to run
the Altman hotel in Uniontown. He told me that Sergeant Chubboy and
Corporal Laphew were killed in their last fight.
�I certainly was sorry to hear of the death of those two fellows,
for they were both pals of mine, and the best kind of men. Poor old
Chubby! After fighting so hard to get over here, it don�t seem
square does it.
Sergeant Chubboy, whose name appeared in the official casualty list 10 days or so ago as �missing in action,� was one of the best known and most popular members of Company D. Corporal Easton�s mention of his hard fight �to get over here,� refers to the delay occasioned in sailing due to failure to receive proof of the naturalization of Sergeant Chubboy�s father. This proof arrived a few days after Company D sailed and Sergeant Chubboy was sent across with other troops. After arriving in France he had considerable difficulty in reaching headquarters of the 110th and it was only after an accidental meeting with Lieutenant Colonel E. B. Edie of the Medical Corps that he was enabled to rejoin his command. Corporal Ernest C. Laphew, aged 22 at the time of his enlistment in Company D, before it was moved to Camp Hancock for training, was a resident of East Pittsburg. He was rated as a first-class private and was promoted to corporal after the 110th reached France.
That he had the same kind of courage and grit other members of Company D have shown on many occasions during the war, in proven by an incident related in a letter written by Corporal Easton on October 25, two days before he heard of his friend�s death. Having become a bit lonesome by his long retention in the hospital, Corporal Easton wrote:
�I would like to see some of the old boys. You know, after one goes
over the top a few times and sleeps in shell holes, and fights side
by side with a jolly, good bunch, you learn to love them like
brothers, or even more so. There is one fellow, a pal of mine in
Company D, Corporal Laphew. Well, after I was wounded and had been
lying out in �No Man�s Land� for some hours, with the machine gun
bullets hitting all around me and the big shells dropping real
close, he came out and endangered his own life to get me back to
safety.
�He and I have always tried to get ahead of one another in the
fights we were in, just to have something to talk about after it was
all over. But we have always been the best of pals and he is the
best sticker I ever saw. Going over the top takes courage, but it
is not the worst thing to be done, you know. And when it is for a
good cause we don�t mind it at all.
�Connellsville and Uniontown need not be ashamed of the company of
boys who represent them in France, for everyone is ready to lay down
his life for the good and noble cause.�

Michael Chuberko, aged 51 years, eight months, four days, died in Mt. Alto Sanatorium
Thursday, May 9, 1935, at 5:30 a.m., following an extended illness. He
had been a resident of Masontown for 36 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Chuberko, and the following children: Mrs.
Mary Plakosh, Masontown; Mrs. Helen Rebovich, Palmer; Mrs. Elizabeth Velchko,
New York; Daniel, Veronica, Frank, John, Pete and Jennie, at home; Katherine,

Willa Mae McNatt Churby, age 73, of Farmington, Fayette County, Pa., passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa. She was born May 10, 1934, in Mount Braddock, Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of Henry McNatt and Sarah Kathryn Elizabeth Lowery McNatt. Mrs. Churby was a member of The United Mountain Christian Fellowship.
She was predeceased by her parents, her son, Gary Churby, and a brother, Earl McNatt. Surviving are her husband, Charles Churby, Jr.; her daughter, Lana Dehaven and her husband, Roger, of Uniontown, Pa.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and one sister, Barbara Smith, of Baltimore, Maryland. �

Lawrence S. Churray, 81, of Dunbar, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Mt. St. Macrina Manor, with his loving family by his side. He was born March 8, 1930 in Monarch, a son of the late Stephen and Agnes Fetsko Churray. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist R. C. Church, Connellsville. Lawrence was the former owner of Churray's Tavern and was Vice President and sales manager for Commercial Stone until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Fairview and Slovak Clubs in Connellsville and the Bridgeport Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Millicent R. Smitley Churray (2006); and a brother, Francis J. Churray. He is survived by two daughters: Nancy M. Hartman and husband, Bill and Pam Basinger and husband, David; two grandchildren: David L. Basinger and Michelle L. Basinger all of Dunbar and also many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 P.M. and Wednesday from 1-9 P.M. in the PAUL G. Millicent R. Smitley CHURRAY (1929-2006)
Millicent R. Smitley Churray, age 77, of Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2006, with her loving family by her side. She was born June 30, 1929, in Tower Hill #2, Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of Peter Smitley and Jane (Reed) Smitley. She was Protestant by faith.
Millicent was a homemaker for most of her life. Earlier, she was employed at the Keystone Fireworks Plant, in Dunbar, Fayette County, Pa., and also at Anchor Hocking Glass, in South Connellsville, Fayette County, Pa. Millicent enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jack Smitley, P. C. Smitley, and Don Smitley, a sister, Agnes J. Smitley Maher, two infant sisters, Aubrey Smitley and Sarah Margaret Smitley; infant brother, Charles Donald Smitley, and a nephew, Charles R. Maher.
Left to cherish her memories are: her husband of 56 years, Lawrence S. Churray, her children, Nancy M. Hartman and her husband, Bill Hartman, and Pam Basinger and her husband, David A. Basinger, two grandchildren, David L. Basinger and Michelle L. Basinger, and two special pets, Moe and Koko, all of Dunbar, Pa.

He was born in Italy June 9, 1884, and came to this vicinity about 26 years ago. He was a trackman for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company and a member of St. Rita�s R. C. Church. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Concetta Ciambella, of Connellsville; a nephew, Serafino Ciambella of Pittsburgh, and a niece, Mrs. Robert H. Nelson of Philadelphia. CIBRIK, GEORGE S.— Age 58 years of 4 Ridge St., Brownsville, Pa., died in the Brownsville General Hospital, Wednesday, April 19, 1967, at 8:20 p.m. following a brief illness. He had been a lifelong resident of Brownsville. He was born April 7, 1911, the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Sabo Cibrik, and was a member of St. Mary�s R.C. MRS. THERESA CICIRETTI
Mrs. Theresa Ciciretti, 73 years old, died at 10 o�clock Monday night at her home on Limestone Hill after an illness of five- days. She was the widow of William Ciciretti who died last April. Born June 15, 1867, in Italy, Mrs. Ciciretti came to this country 35 years ago. She was a member of St. Rita�s Church and belonged to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Surviving are these children: Charles of Philadelphia, Mrs. Susan Ciciretti, Mrs. Maggie Orbin, Mrs. Carmel Conte and Mrs. Mary Dalessio all of this city, and Amato Ciciretti, at home. She also leaves 35 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a brother living in Italy. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

home 235 North 12th Street West Side, Connellsville, from a second stroke of
paralysis.
She leaves her husband, Roy, four children, Dominick, Theresa, Mary and Joseph.
Her mother, Mrs. Theresa Renzi and five sisters, and two brothers, including

He was born Sept. 19, 1916 in Connellsville, a son of the late Rosario and Renzi Cirillo. He had been employed at Brookvale Manufacturing Co. until retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church of Monessen, where he had served on council for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Theresa Cirillo; and one brother, Domenick Cirillo. He is survived by his wife; Valma Johnson Cirillo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Frank Glasscock of Richmond, Va., and Jeri and David Smereczniak of Clarksville; one stepdaughter and her husband, Vann and David Walchock of Fayette City; one stepson, Bevan Freshwater of Bentleyville; six grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great- grandchildren. Andrew Philip Cisek, 43, business agent for the Uniontown Local Bakers' Union,
died at 8:10 a.m., Friday, June 28, 1935. Stricken suddenly with a stomach
ailment a week ago, he failed to rally from an abdominal operation performed
last Monday evening.
A resident of West Brownsville, he was a veteran of the World war, and an officer
of the Brownsville Lodge 108, Loyal Order of Moose. Before moving to the
west side, he resided in Republic. He was a native of Germany.
Surviving are his widow, Anna K. Cisek, and the following children, Roy, Helen,
Nicholas, Andrew and Elizabeth, all at home. His mother, Mrs. Elizabeth
K. Cisek of Romania, also survives.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the family residence, West
Brownsville. Rev. Paul E. Walphour, pastor of St. Andrew's Lutheran church, Brownsville,
will officiate. Burial will be in Acklin cemetery, Luzerne township.

Antonette C. (Mientus) Ciszek of Waltersburg, died Thursday, May 11, 1995, at the Uniontown Hospital. She was born in Georges Township, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Kwak) Mientus. She was owner of Tonette�s Lounge in Star Junction, a member of St. Joseph�s Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, St. Joseph Christian Mothers, and St. Hedwig Lodge. She served as the vice president of the Polish American League of Fayette County for many years. She was also an officer in Polish Highlanders Circle 14, Uniontown, and was national vice president from Pennsylvania for Polish Highlanders of America. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Donald (Rheita) Hughes of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. James (Loretta) Gorley of Markleysburg, Mrs. Andrew (Antonette) Jeresko of Willoughby, Ohio, Mrs. John (Dolores) Elias of Star Junction, and John F. in Brownsville. She had been in failing health for some time.

Adam Clark, Jr., age 87, of Ronco, Fayette County, Pa., passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa. He was born in Smithfield, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1921, son of Adam J. Clark and Tillie (Fields) Clark. Adam was a World War II Veteran, who served in the United States Army Air Corps, a Coal Miner, and a Life Time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, in Carmichaels, Greene County, Pa.
He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, Mary Clark, by his wife, Viola B. (Snyder) Clark, and three grandsons, Michael Cramer, Donald Swaney, Jr., and Russel Cramer. She was predeceased by her husband, William Taft Clark Sr. in 1986, by two sons, Gene Autry Clark and Eugene Robert Clark, a grandson, Montgomery K. Clark, and a brother, Floyd Lipscomb. She is survived by her loving family: children, William T. Clark Jr. and wife Mary of Ohio, Mary Jane Butcher and husband John, and Jack Clark all of Point Marion, Pa.; six grandchildren and spouses: William T. Dorothy M. Armel Clark, 84, of Connellsville, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 14, 2008, in Sunshine Estates Personal Care Home, Connellsville, with her family near her side. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Bridgeport, a daughter of the late Curtis E. and Bertha M. Faust Armel. Dorothy was a member of Pennsville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Scottdale Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved all of her family. When she wasn't shopping, she loved to bake, especially pies and bread for her family and friends. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted children, Perry G. Clark Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Scottdale, Ronald E. Clark and his wife, Jean, of Waynesboro, Donna R. Pearson and her husband, William, of Connellsville, and Denise L. Basinger and her husband, Gerald, of Scottdale; her eight grandchildren, Perry J. Clark, of Youngwood, Ashley Clark, of Mt. Pleasant, Ronald E. Clark Jr. and his wife, Carrie, of Baltimore, Md., Lori Howard and her husband, Duane, of Funkstown, Md., Brock Pearson and his wife, Cori, of York, S.C., Dana Pearson, of Connellsville, Derek Najewicz, and his wife, Jill, of Beaver, and step-randdaughter, Mindy Minsterman and her husband, Dan, of Connellsville; and her 11 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Amber, Christian, Caleb, Gabriel, Abigail, Thurman, Logan, Kiersten, Ali and Annaka. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry G. Clark (July 14, 1991); two brothers, Charles and Chelsie Armel; three sisters, Edith Armel, Sylvia Tarr and Shirley Halfhill; and step-grandson, Keith Basinger (July 26, 2008). Dorothy's family will greet friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Her funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Merle Watson, from Pennsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Elarie Clark, 84, of Mt. Pleasant (Bullskin Township), went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at her home, while surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of the late Amos C. and Bessie M. Miller Miller. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Wooddale Church of the Brethren, where she was church treasurer for 53 years. She also was the pianist, taught Sunday school and helped with the Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department, where she served as chaplain for many years. She married Lee Roy Clark Jr. on April 6, 1945. Her husband, Lee, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2002. Elarie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elarie leaves her memory to be cherished by her loving children, Barry Clark and his wife, Debby, of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lou Kinneer, of Ellsworth, Sharon Liska and her husband, Joe, and Melinda King and her husband, Dan, both of Connellsville; 17 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; her brothers, Clair J. Miller, of Dawson, and James Miller and his wife, Luthora, of Connellsville; sister-in-law, Mary Miller, of Connellsville; sister-in-law, Dianne Clark, of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Madeline; and brothers, Donald and Elwood Miller. The Sad Story of an Unfortunate Woman Sent
to the County Home.
Eliza Clark, colored, died in the Southwest depot here on Friday, a few minutes after the 11:32 train pulled in. She was in charge of Constable A. C. Duncan and Joseph Wilgus who were bringing her to the County Home. Mrs. Clark came from Staunton, Va., a little over a year ago and has since been living at Dunbar. She was very old and feeble and had no means of support. She was committed by Squire D. K. Cameron and H. C. Bunting of Dunbar on oath of two men who testified to her destitution. Constable Duncan said she was very feeble when he started with her and he feared she would die on the train. When they reached town she was so feeble that she was unconscious and died on one of the benches in the depot.

Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols Clark, 79, a native of Connellsville, died Wednesday at 10 p.m. at the residence, 105 Lincoln street. She had been confined to her bed for the past 10 days but had been in failing health for the last 10 months.
She was prominent in Connellsville civic, social and church activities and served as a trustee of the Mothers� Assistance Fund of Fayette county for the past 12 years. She was honorary president of the Roosevelt Council of Republican Women, an charter member of the Women�s Culture Club and the Outlook Club and was also a member of the Dolly Madison Chapter, Daughters of 1812 of Pittsburgh. She was also one of the most active workers in the First Methodist Episcopal church.
Mrs. Clark is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George M. Hosack of Pittsburgh; Miss Eleanor and Miss Harriet Clark, both at home. One granddaughter, Mrs. Francis O. Moreland, and two great- grandchildren, Francis, Jr., and Peggy Moreland of Pittsburgh, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Clark residence. Rev. D. R. Graham, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate assisted by Rev. Dr. Bennett W. Hutchinson of Oakmont. Burial will be in Hill Grove cemetery.
MRS. ELIZABETH NICHOLS CLARK
Even though she was permitted to almost reach four score years, the late Mrs. Elizabeth Nichols Clark, until quite recently, was able to continue the contribution of her many useful services to the community and her church and to maintain an active interest in the life of the community. A life-long resident, she had been identified with many activities which were advanced by her faithful and untiring service in their behalf. Her life was full of good deeds and gave an outward expression of the splendid, kindly spirit by which she was animated in all her relations.
A person who makes such contributions to the town in which they live, and to whose best interests they are devoted, are deeply and sincerely mourned when the time for their departure is at hand. Admired and respected by many loyal friends, and the object of the abiding affection of the immediate members of her family, she will live in the sacred memory of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Clark died Monday, April 7, 1930, at her home in Downer avenue about 1:15 p.m. of pneumonia. She was the daughter of the late William P. and Mary A. Springer and was born in North Union township, March 4, 1883. Surviving, besides her husband, J. O. Clark, are the following brothers and sisters: Wilbur of Warren, Ohio; John P. of New Castle; Walter of Uniontown; Mrs. Robert D. Curry of Ogallala, Neb.; and Mrs. C. A. Woodward of Uniontown. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Ellen Gaddis Clark, aged 66 years, died at her home, 123 Morgantown street, Monday, July 19, 1926, at 4 p.m. after a week�s illness. She was the daughter of the late John and Sisson Gaddis and the widow of the late John H. Clark. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hanson Rutter of Uniontown and by two brothers, T. B. Gaddis of Uniontown and Eli C. Gaddis of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Clark was born in North Union township, Fayette county, September 5, 1859, and was united in marriage to John H. Clark in 1879. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian church of Uniontown for the past 43 years and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held in the home, 123 Morgantown street, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o�clock. Interment will be at Oak Grove cemetery. The Rev. W. R. VanBuskirk will officiate.

Will of the late Ellen G. Clark, widow of John Clark, well known liveryman of Uniontown in years gone by, has been probated by Register O. Frank Rnea. While no estimate of the value of the estate has been made it will be considerable. There were no children.
Mrs. Clark levied to her sister, Sarah Virginia Rutter, forty acres of coal in Richhill township, Greene county. An outright gift of $8,000 is made to William O. Clark, of Macomb, Ill., a brother-in- law, while Anna Patterson, wife of LeRoy Patterson, of North Union township, receives $2,500.
The First Presbyterian church of Uniontown receives a gift of $1,000 outright while $5,000 is given in trust to the Citizens Title and Trust company for Eli C. Gaddis, a brother.
The balance of the estate, share and share alike, will be divided between Mrs. Rutter and Thomas B. Gaddis, sister and brother. The will was dated June 5, 1925 and Mrs. Rutter is named executrix. Attorneys H. D. Leonard and Lee Smith are witnesses to the document.

Eva Lou (Higinbotham) Clark, R.N., age 94, died on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Consulate Retirement Village of North Strabane, Pa. She was born on October 11, 1917 in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa., daughter of Nathaniel E. Higinbotham and Grace Lynn Higinbotham. Eva graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, Pa., and Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing. Following nurse�s training, she worked as a Registered Nurse at hospitals and as an industrial nurse at Jessop Steel and at Equitable Gas Company in Pittsburgh, Pa. During World War II, she served in the Army Nurse Corps. She loved travel and also dancing, both ballroom and square dancing. Until the last two years, she was active at the Washington Senior Center. Surviving is a niece, Donna Young, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Deceased, in addition to her parents, are two brothers, Ross and Dwight. Mrs. Clark, a daughter of Oliver Perry and Nancy McQuillis Clark, was born in 1846, at Mount Pleasant. She was married to Harry Clark and lived for many years at Dunbar. Her husband and their only child, Oliver Perry Clark, and his only child, Ruth Clark, preceded her in death. Mrs. Clark was a sister of the late Sarah Clark Allen and made her home with her for a number of years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at 49 Shady Lane. Interment will be in Hill Grove cemetery, Connellsville.

JAMES HANKINS CLARK
James Hankins Clark, aged 92 years, a native of North Union township died at
his home in Buda, Ill Wednesday July 1, 1931. His son, Walter Clayton Clark
who had been visiting relatives here, was summoned when his father was suddenly
stricken and arrived home just after death occurred.
Mr. Clark was born March 19, 1942, in North Union township on what is known as
the Thomas Junk farm near Mt. Braddock. He was a son of John McCrea and Jane
Hankins Clark.
Mr. Clark went west in 1967 and was actively engaged in farming and banking,
having been most successful. He operated some of the largest farms in the community
in which he lived and until 75 years of age, when he retired, was president of
a Dorchester, Neb., bank a position he held for 25 years. He was widely recognized
and highly successful in farming and in the grain business.
Mr. Clark was married April 17, 1877 to Celia Maria Chase, only daughter of Col.
Charles Chase of Buda, Ill. Mrs. Clark died 25 years ago. He is survived by
one son, Walter Clayton Clark and four grand children; one sister, Mrs. Katharine
Humbert of Uniontown; a nephew, Clark Murphy, a niece, Agnes Humbert, and two
cousins; William Hankins and Mrs. Samuel Henshaw, all of Uniontown. One sister,
Mrs. Mary Murphy and brother, Samuel A Clark preceded him in death.
Mr. Clark visited friends and relatives in Fayette County about four years ago.

Joseph W. CLARK, 77 years old, a veteran of the Civil War, died Saturday night
at his home near Wooddale following a lingering illness. Funeral tomorrow

from the Stauffer church. Interment in Stauffer cemetery.
Mr. CLARK was a retired farmer and spent virtually all his life in Bullskin Tounship.
He was born May 14, 1836 and was a son of John and Rosanna DAIRY CLARK.
He was twice married. His first wife died about eight years ago.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a family of grown children.

Mount Pleasant--Lee R. Clark Jr., 77, of Mount Pleasant (Bullskin Township) died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Masontown, a son of the late Leroy Sr. and Goldie Haught Clark. Mr. Clark was a resident of Bullskin Township (Wooddale) for most of his life, and he was a retired engineer from Conrail, where he was employed for 38 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He served on the USS Ashtabula, and he was in the Battle of Latte Bay in the Philippines where his boat was torpedoed, but he survived. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans since 1968. He was also a charter member of the Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department where he served since 1959. Mr. Clark faithfully attended the Wooddale Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Elaire Miller Clark, to whom he was married for 57 years; one son, Barry R. Clark and his wife, Debby of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Mary Lou Kinneer of Elsworth, Sharon Liska and her husband, Joseph and Melinda King and her husband, Dan, all of Connellsville; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Samuel E. Clark and his wife, Dianne, of the state of Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers, John D., Perry G., Minor F., Paul R. and Ralph J. Clark, and two sisters, Goldie House and Beulah Smith.
Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Additional viewing will take place on Thursday in the Wooddale Church of the Brethren from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the hour of service in the church with the Rev. Kevin Wilkins officiating. Leonard D. Clark, age 57, of Vanderbilt, died Monday, June 25, 2007, in his home. He was born in Connellsville, July 27, 1949, the son of the late George and Leona Snedon Clark. He was a lifelong construction worker and was an active member of the Barn of Praise Ministries. He was a loyal and loving friend to everyone who needed one. Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Margaret Sproul Clark, widow of C. S. Clark, formerly of Ohiopyle, at her home in Newfield, N. J. Mrs. Clark was aged 69 years. She is survived by one son, Ross Clark, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters. A daughter, Mrs. Mary Clark Richmond, died 15 years ago.

Margie M. Clark, 83, of Masontown, Fayette County, Pa.., died Friday, August 10, 2007, in her home. She was born August 7, 1924, in Sanford, North Carolina. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lee Wicker and Lela (Morris) Wicker, a son, Terry Ray Clark, a son- in-law, Kenneth Yablonosky, and two sisters, Christine Shultz and Hilda Matusaiez. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Masontown Presbyterian Church, and had formerly been employed at Gateway Manufacturing.
Surviving are her husband, Charles R. "Mickey" Clark; a daughter Gerry Clark Yablonosky, of Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa.; two grandchildren: Kelli Beres and her husband, Bruce, of Uniontown, and Kenneth Robert Yablonosky and his wife, Cara, of South Carolina; four great-grandsons: Dominic, Braden, Connor, and Darin; two sisters: Ruby Todd and her husband, Len, and Edna Hamel and her husband, Lowell, all of Sanford, N.C.; many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Redstone cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was a lifelong resident of Jefferson township. She celebrated
her 91st birthday anniversary on February 15. She was married to Mr. Clark
on February 7, 1878. Her husband died on May 18, 1934.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Chester J. Kelley, of the National Pile, Brownsville,
and Mrs. William Arnold, of Jefferson township.

Word has been received by J. O. Clark of this city of the death of his mother, Mrs. Martha Core Clark at her home near Mt. Morris. Mrs. Clark was 84 years of age. MICHAEL ERIC CLARK
Michael Eric Clark, 59, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 12, 1952 in Uniontown, Pa. Mike graduated from Laurel Highlands Senior High School in 1972 and attended Penn State Fayette Campus. He also attended Kerr Street Institute where he received his certification as an electrician. Shortly thereafter, he relocated to Aurora, Colorado. He was employed for 17 year with Torgerson Electric as a Foreman. The Colorado State Electrical Board certified him as an apprentice. He returned to Uniontown in December 2009. He was a member of New Beginning Full Gospel Church. Michael was a very friendly and outgoing person to everyone he met. He enjoyed taking daily walks with his dog Nemo who was his constant companion and loyal friend. He loved sports and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos. Michael was the son of Deacon Otto Clark, Jr. and Mary Clark. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Jonathan Clark (Jamie), Philadelphia, Pa.; former wife Pam Clark, Aurora, Colorado; siblings: Lois Thomas (William), Hopwood, Pa.; Terry Clark (Carmelita), Cardale, Pa.; Joseph Clark (LaRina), New Market, Va.; Debra Clark, Uniontown, Pa.; Tee Clark, Burtonsville, Md.; his beloved dog, Nemo; and a host of nieces and nephews. Minnie C. Clark, 83, of Normalville passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at her home while surrounded and comforted by her loving family. She was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Millertown, a daughter of the late Jesse and Bessie Miller Nicholson. Minnie had been a resident of Normalville for most of her life. She was a 48-year member of the South Connellsville Congregation of Jehovah's Witness. Minnie was a loving homemaker to all of her family and friends. She enjoyed baking pies and donuts for her family and canned vegetables from her garden. She enjoyed singing to her children and grandchildren. Minnie especially loved reading the Bible and spoke to many people about the blessings of God's kingdom. Minnie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving husband of 64 years, George W. Clark; her children, Helen Miller and husband Michael of Columbus, Ohio, Ruby George and husband, Marvin, and George W. Clark Jr. and wife Pascale, all of Normalville, Joyce Walker and husband Bruce of Somerset, Oliver D. CLARK, NORMAN C.— Age 74 years, of R. D. 2, Dunbar, died Tuesday, November 28, 1967 in the Uniontown Hospital at 10:03 a.m. following a lingering illness. Born December 15, 1892 in Saltlick Twp. He was the son of the late Henry and Mary Jane Shaffer Clark. He had been a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a retired coal miner. He was affiliated with the Dawn Bible Students. Ray E. Clark Jr., 56, of Denbo died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, in Brownsville General Hospital. He is survived by family and friends. Friends will be received in the Andrew J. Skirpan Funeral Home, 135 Park St., Brownsville, on Friday, Jan. 31, 1997 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the hour of service.

Regina M. Clark, age 84, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Tuesday August 14, 2012. She was born on February 14, 1928 in Keisterville, Pa., a daughter of Donald and Naomi (Lytle) Slanders. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Uniontown, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Clark, an infant son, and her sister Garnet Linderman. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Deborah Mains and husband Richard, Robert Clark and wife Jenny; granddaughter Lena Naicker; great granddaughter Deanna Naicker; her sister Dorothy Lapsansky; aunts, Eleanor Slanders and Eliza Slanders; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Richard Doyle (Sonny) Clark, 64, of Mineral, Va., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Prince William Hospital at Tyson Corner, Va. He was born March 4, 1939, in Smithfield, Pa., a son of the now late Andrew (Curley) and Grace Rohm Clark. He was a retired Metropolitan Police Officer in Washington, D.C. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police, was a member of the F&A Masonic Lodge, and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Provance) Clark; a daughter, Cheryl Shannon and husband Cliff of Nokesville, Va.; two sons, Scotty Clark of Mineral, Va., and Richard (Andy) Clark and wife Mary Lynn of Spotsylvania, Va.; two sisters, Emma Jean Harbenburg of Mesa, Ariz., and Lyvonne (Bonnie) Romesburg of Arlington, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Sara Marie Headrick, Ruth Hartman and husband, Doug and Eleanor Varndell; and six grandchildren, Sara Marie Clark, Amanda Grace Clark, Richard Wayne Clark, Tiffany Nicole Shannon, Laura Ashley Clark and Richard Andrew Clark Jr. The family will receive friends in the JOHN F. Robert W. Clark, Principal At North Union, Dies Robert Winning Clark, 52 years old, principal of the North Union Township High School for many years died at 3 o�clock this morning at his home at Coolspring after an illness of about two years. He had not been able to attend to his school duties during the present term. Virtually all of his school life, with the exception of two years, were spent in North Union township. In 1931 to 1933 he was located in Georges township as assistant principal to Albert R. Montgomery. A graduate of the school at Valparaiso, Ind., and the University of Pittsburgh, where he secured his master�s degree, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Millie Martin Clark, and three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Junk, wife of Lester Junk, Mildred, a navy nurse and Claire, a nurse at Connellsville State Hospital. Word is being awaited from the Navy nurse before funeral arrangements in charge of James T. Perkins of Dunbar, are completed.

The funeral for Robert W. Clark, 52 years old, principal of North Union Township High School, who died Tuesday morning, will be held Friday afternoon. There will be a brief service at the home at Coolspring at 1:30 o�clock with full rites at the Asbury Methodist Church at Uniontown at 2 o�clock in charge of Rev. Dr. Francis E. Kearns, pastor. Burial will be made in Sylvan Heights Cemetery in charge of Funeral Director James T. Burhans. Mr. Clark, who was born and reared at Mount Braddock, was a member of Royal Lodge No. 651, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Percy Methodist Church near Shady Grove. He leaves his widow, three daughters and one grandson.

Mrs. S. Edward Clark
Mrs. S. Edward Clark, aged 83 years, died at 6:30 o�clock Thursday morning, April 5, 1906, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. E. Beall, on West Main street, after an illness of about 10 days with heart trouble. Mrs. Clark had been in excellent health up until a few weeks ago. The deceased was born in Troy, N. Y., and was a daughter of Chauncey Betts. She graduated at Troy Seminary many years ago. She married S. Edward Clark and they lived in Brooklyn. He was a business man and at the time of his death, about the year 1882, he was operating oil territory. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Episcopal church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Beall of Uniontown and Mrs. Julia F. Cole of Washington, D. C. Funeral services at the home Sunday afternoon after which remains shipped to Troy, N. Y., for interment there.

The funeral services of Mrs. S. E. Clark were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Beall at 2 o�clock Sunday afternoon. Dr. F. E. J. Lloyd conducted the services. The pall bearers were Judge E. H. Reppert, Judge Nathaniel Ewing, B. B. Howell, L. J. Allen, Guy and Samuel Gilmore. The remains were taken to Troy, N. Y., leaving here on the 4:52 B. & O. train. They were accompanied by Mrs. Le. E. Beall and her son, Le. E., Jr. The floral tributes were very beautiful.
SAMUEL D. CLARK
Samuel D. Clark, aged 78, died at 9 o'clock Tuesday night, April 19, 1938, at his home in House 568 at Allison where he was a well-known resident for 26 years. Surviving are the widow; Mrs. Nancy Ridenour Clark; four children, Adam, of Bobtown; Thurman, of Catawba, W. Va.; Mrs. Adam Perry, Bobtown, and William, of Allison, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Elizabeth Hill, Morgantown, W. Va.; Mrs. Mary Hixon, Smithfield; George, of Easton, W. Va., and John, of Smithfield.

Samuel M. Clark died at the home of his son, John H. Clark of North Union township, Monday, Oct. 14, 1901, in his 79th year. His death was due to heart trouble and was very unexpected, as he was apparently in his usual health Sunday and took a walk around the farm. He ate a hearty supper and retired about 9 o'clock Sunday evening. He was found dead in bed this morning between 6 and 7 o'clock.
Deceased was a son of Samuel and Agnes (Miner) Clark and was born January 19, 1823. He has always resided here, having worked at the carpenter trade until within the last five or six years. In 1844 he married Agnes Craig of North Union township, who died a few years later. In 1871 he married Miss Nancy Duncan of Pittsburgh, who is now deceased. He is survived by six children, viz; Rebecca, wife of Lewis L. Williams of Morgantown street; John of North Union township, William in Illinois, Ella, wife of Ira Johnson of Fairchance; Lizzie, wife of Harry Hagan of Westmoreland county and T. H. Clark of Indiana county. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Dixon and two brothers, John and William. He had been for years a member of the Baptist church and was also a member of Fort Necessity lodge, I. O. O. F., since December 22, 1859.

William C. Clark, 72, of Masontown, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Ronco, Pa., son of the late Isaac Ray and Carrie Jackson Clark. Mr. Clark was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a master sergeant. William was a driver salesman and district manager of the Buckeye Garment Rental Service. Surviving are his wife, Annetta June Wilson Clark; five daughters, Debra Gump of Mentor, Ohio, Donna Marie Franks of Parma, Ohio, Diana Wiechart of Atlanta, Ga., Denise Craft of Elks, Nev., and Darlene Stepic of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, William (Bill) Carl Clark of Lakewood, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leitha Clark of Smithfield, Pa., and Mabel Carafa of Masontown, Pa.; and a brother, Charles R.
