The German economy was struggling in the 1920s. After World War I had ended and Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles, taking full responsibility for starting the war, later leading them into debt. They were all arrested by the secret police Along with two of the helpers, Victor Kugler and Johannes Kleiman, were taken to a prison in Amsterdam. The eight were all took to a prison in Amsterdam and then transferred to Westerbork. They were then separated by gender and taken to their corresponding camp. Anne and Margot Frank were transported to Auschwitz-Biekenau at the end of October and brought to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. During their time there the typhus outbreak that broke out during winter of 1944-1945. “... including Margot and, a few days later, Anne.
