"Gravity" and "Harry Potter" series producer David Heyman is set to produce a film based on Reza Aslan's 2013 best-seller "Zealot: The Life And Times Of Jesus Of Nazareth" for Lionsgate.
Former Focus Features chief James Schamus is penning the adaptation which explores the life of Jesus Christ from a humanistic and political context rather than a religious one.
The story is set in the tumultuous times of first-century Palestine, an age of zealotry, would-be messiahs and fervent nationalism in the face of the Roman occupation.
Into this boiling pot came a charismatic, itinerant Jewish preacher who established a revolutionary movement so threatening to both the imperial authority and his own Jewish religious hierarchy, that he was ultimately executed as a state criminal for sedition.
Jeff Clifford will also produce.

With technology growing by leaps and bounds, it's only going to be a matter of time before some scientist somewhere concocts some mad plan to take human beings and make them... "better." Who knows? Maybe it's time we had an overhaul.
According to Variety, Tucker Parsons has been set to adapt the Warner Bros. sci-fi pic True Skin based on the short film helmed by Stephan Zlotescu set in the near future where augmentation is the way of life. Zlotescu is also expected to direct this version as well.
Jeff Clifford will produce with John Fischer overseeing for Heyday Films along with Raymond Brothers and Scott Glassgold of Iam Entertainment. Jon Berg will oversee for the studio. This one may or may not be within our wheelhouse, but we'll keep an eye on things and keep you posted if need be. In the interim check out the aforementioned short film below.

Warner Bros. Pictures is planning an outer space set version of Greek author Homer's "The Odyssey." James Dilapo ("Devils At Play") has just come onboard pen the script.
Set directly after the events of "The Illiad" (which Warners adapted into 2004's "Troy"), "The Odyssey" follows Odysseus' decade-long journey from the Trojan War to his homeland of Ithaca in Greece - a long journey due to his enraging of the god Poseidon.
Along the way he encounters various challenges - an angry Cyclops, the sorceress Circe who turns half his men into pigs, the treacherous songs of the Sirens, giant stone-throwing cannibals, the narrow passage between the many-headed monster Scylla and the whirlpool Charybdis, shipwrecks, nymphs and rival suitors for his wife and son.
Over the years the work has been translated onto film and TV many times and has been used as inspiration for features like "O Brother Where...

Exclusive: Here’s one Homer surely didn’t see coming. Warner Bros is making The Odyssey, dropping the togas and setting it in space. The studio has just hired James Dilapo to write the futuristic re-imagining of the Greek epic. Warner Bros has also put in place a blind writing deal behind the project to keep him in the studio fold. The Odyssey is Homer’s followup to The Illiad, which the studio turned into the Wolfgang Petersen-directed Troy, which starred Brad Pitt as Achilles. The Odyssey tracks the struggle of Odysseus to return from those wars, as suitors line up to marry his wife, and sponge off his estate as they wait for her to make a decision. Terry Dougas of 1821 Pictures hatched the idea of setting the tale in space and he and cohort Paris Kasidokostas Latsis brought the idea to the studio. Brad Pitt was once...

Synopsis:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing,...

With The Twilight series wrapping up this November it's no secret that Summit is on the lookout for their next big franchise. Their first attempt to reproduce that money making formula may come with the upcoming adaptation of Erin Morgenstern's debut novel, "The Night Circus," a property the production company bought the rights to over a year ago. After bringing Harry Potter producer David Heyman on board as well as Jeff Clifford, Summit continues to move forward by hiring Moira Buffini to adapt the young adult novel for the big screen. THR reports that Buffini has been hired to write the screenplay for the New York Times bestseller about forbidden love at a magical circus. The book is set at the beginning of the 19th century and follows two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who fall in love with each other despite an age old family rivalry taking place...

This is definitely a day for adaptations! Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to The Adventures of Oscar Pill, the series of French youth novels written by Eli Anderson.
What’s also interesting about this project is that one of the producers behind the Harry Potter series, David Heyman, is set to produce the films through his HeyDay Films banner along with Jeff Clifford. So, it looks like we definitely have a new franchise.
Thanks to guys from Collider, here’s a little description:
“Oscar Pill is a very ordinary teenager until the day he discovers that he has the power to enter human bodies and he belongs to the order of “Médicus”. His mission is then to fight their enemies, the Pathologus. He will travel across five fabulous worlds of the human body to find each trophy to move to the next world.

Warner Bros. is bringing 'The Adventures of Oscar Pill' to theaters, a film based on a book series about a young man who has the ability to venture into the human body. As filthy as all of this sounds, the books seem to be more along the lines of a fantasy driven 'Fantastic Voyage' than a hardcore adult feature. Young Oscar belongs to a group of sorcerers, the Medicus. It's up to the organization to fend off the Pathologus, a rival group who are presumably up to no good when it comes to entering bodies. In addition to learning the ways of the Medicus, Oscar investigates the mysterious death of his father. If you're wondering why you've never heard of 'Oscar Pill' and his adventures through the human body, it's probably because it's an entirely French series of books from author, Eli Anderson. Producers David Heyman of Heyday Films...

It was no secret that Paramount Pictures was developing a movie from that '90s syndicated monster about buxom California lifeguards and their floatation devices, Baywatch. The studio purchased the movie and remake rights to the property four years back and thought that making a straightforward action film would be the right road to go on. Now things have changed; serious action Baywatch movie is out and comedy-action Baywatch is in!
What better way for a movie studio to send a message right now that they want their film to be funny than to hire someone associated with the making of The Hangover? Paramount has done just that and cut a check to Jeremy Garelick to not just rewrite the Baywatch movie script but also direct the picture too. Garelick is a comedy writer; he did an uncredited punch-up to The Hangover and has penned a couple of laffer scripts in development.

Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce along with Berk, Doug Schwartz, Greg Bonann and Michelle Berk.
