Drinking While Breastfeeding: Jessie James Decker Seemingly Poses With Glass of Rosé While Feeding Infant Son

Jessie James Decker uses feeding time to unwind. On Thursday, the singer posted an Instagram photo of herself breastfeeding her infant son, Forrest Bradley, while holding up a glass of what appeared to be wine. It's unclear if the pink liquid filling Decker's cup was actually alcohol, but many fans who commented on the image speculated that the drink was rosé.

Decker captioned the photo, "Cheers b***hes."

The picture received mixed reactions from Decker's followers. Some fans questioned the safety of drinking alcohol while breastfeeding, but hundreds of moms supported the "Flip My Hair" singer's chosen method of relaxation while feeding her baby and noted that a moderate amount of alcohol wasn't likely to harm the baby boy. A number of women wrote that they too enjoyed an occasional glass of wine, champagne or beer while breastfeeding and listed alcohol's alleged benefits in promoting lactation.

"You can drink in moderation – so many negative comments. If moms did their research [then they'd know] you can actually have a drink a day and one beer with yeast in it actually helps with your milk production. So for all you negative people just hush and mind our business," one user wrote.

Dark hoppy beers are known to help increase a mother's milk supply, according to a 2015 BuzzFeed report. It found that barley and hops used to make beer stimulated the hormone prolactin, which produces mother's milk.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website says that "not drinking alcohol is the safest option for breastfeeding mothers," but moderate alcohol consumption is OK. The site also says having "up to one standard drink per day" wasn't known to be harmful to infants while feeding, especially if moms wait "at least two hours after a single drink before nursing."

Decker is already a mom to Vivianne Rose, 4, and Eric Thomas Jr., 2, whom she shares with husband and NFL star Eric Decker.
