The Clean Up Woman - Review

Actor, Director, Producer, Singer and Writer JD Lawrence arrived at The Sacramento Community Theater ready to deliver his long running play The Clean-Up Woman to the anticipating play goers of Sacramento, California. Deliver he did as the play's centralized theme about love/relationships/marriage/trust and family held the crowd's attention to the end.

The storyline itself wasn't something we hadn't seen before (i.e. Tyler Perry's infamous Madea plays); however the one thing that made this play shine  brightly was its cast (star-studded - Christopher Williams, Jackee' Harry, Ali Woodson, and Telma Hopkins) and their delivery of exceptional energy through every scene of the play while JD Lawrence's many characters introduced impromptu comedic monologue that left the crowd in stitches!

The Clean-Up Woman had some cliche' moments of taboo where Christopher's character Stuart Adams is pursued an overt bubbly white woman who is hired to break up his marriage between  so that his wife's (Terry Adams) co-worker can create scandal and replace her as anchor at the news station where they work.

I like how Christopher was able to own this character and portray the "good-guy" without coming off too humble and his comedic timing and periodic giggle outbursts came off authentic and flawless making his connection with the audience rock solid.

The play is definitely worth checking out and a delight for play lovers alike. There is no scale system worth implementing here because it's a GO!

Recommendation: Go See It!

Side Note: I spoke with JD Lawrence after the show and told me that once the play is finished in May he is going to take a 2 month break before pre-production for The Clean-Up Woman "the movie". He also said that between filming he'll be planning a tour for the sequel The Clean-up Man.
