Felt that baby standing on an elevated train platform which started to shake.

Yep, woke me up in Shinjuku. Been to Tokyo to many times and only felt earthquake once. This trip twice in 5 days

I wonder more to come. It’s like a warning sign. It must be scary for my phone as the apartment was shaking, and it was screaming “Emergency! Emergency!”

@John: It's nothing of the sort .

There have been a few lately, but I don’t think it’s any more of a warning sign than any other earthquake. A reminder, yeah that one was, definitely.

Consider yourself warned. The 2011 caught everyone off guard. It starts like the one this morning and you expect it will stop in a few seconds as the thousands of other earthquakes but then it doesn't and it increases exponentially.

Yeah these smaller ones are warnings that a big one is around the corner! Anyone who doesn’t believe that is simply a fool for not taking heeds, not being prepared and dismissing the idea will make them suffer the most when the big one hits! It’s just unbelievable that people can be so stupid to say no big earthquake will happen in Tokyo despite all the signs, all the history and scientific evidence.

An earthquake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 hit areas near Tokyo on Thursday, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of casualties, the weather agency and local authorities said.

I didn’t feel anything.

Hey, chill. Relax. Take it easy. ;)

Why does Japan still use its own antiquated seismic intensity scale? It's so dumb.

Nobody said no big earthquake will happen in Tokyo. Of course, at some point in time, there will. What people are pointing out is that these things can be predicted recognizable patterns. We all (including seismologists) wish it was so easy...
