This project has been going for a little while now, so its time to share what has been going on...

Here is (was) my rig. 94 YJ, 60's, 2.5L, SM420, NP231, 40's. 3-link front, SOA rear w/cherokees. It worked well, but its time for some change.

The Build will consist of:
6.0L LQ9, TH400, Stak 2-speed.
4-link front w/full hydro -- 45 deg. of steering
109" WB
Front frame section.
same axles & tires -- 60's & 40's
14" c/o's & air bumps all 'round
Rear 4-link, some back-half frame action
Low & Nasty stance.

Well I don't want to throw all my tricks out there, you'll have to stay tuned to see what happens!

TRD and I share a shop in the LA area that fuels our addiction to this hobby. He is helping (I mean guiding) me through this build.

Went to a 'Presidents of the United States' concert on Friday in Hollywood. Yes they still exist. Their new music blows. Joose + Jack + Guiness + Miller Light + Corona + Carls Junior = 3.5 gnarly hangover dumps. ...back on track here:

Its about time I give the rear some attention. Pulled it out and started cleaning off brackets.

Heres a wheelbase mockup at full bump - frame is at ride height. Its going to sit at 112".

Rear frame section will get wacked soon. :D

I'm settled on the radiator location. Should fit right in there w/some dual Spal fans.

The steering cooler is mocked in as well, the tranny cooler needs a home too. Space is filling up fast! Getting oil lines up there is going to be interesting.

TRD banged out welding the last of the header tubes. Final assembly to follow.
Pile-o-header:

Engine cage is moving along. Front gussets are made. Only a few more little details up here. There will be a crossover tube that goes in front of the fire wall, it'll tie into the shock mounts in a V shape.

When this rig was 3 linked and the upper link was vertically mounted, how long was the upper link? Also, how much droop did you have with that set-up?

Sick ass build man. I was taking notes...Then I realized my skills are not this great so thats pointless...HAHA.

impressive build, cant wait for more:D

It was the same length it is now, actually it is on the passenger upper. I think it is 34"??

He swapped to a heim with high misalignment spacer and had to run an offset u-joint.

Basically it had plenty of travel in the front. The limit was the shocks.

Thanks for all the compliments! :smokin:

cool build, those headers are SICK!!!!

Thanks man. I'm running a 30" upper but with a Jimmy joint on 16" air shocks- 3" of up/13" droop... we'll see what happens. If worse comes to worse I can always stop them a couple inches shy of full droop.
#91 ·
He was running 14" coilovers with 7 up and 7 down (or close to it) but it was pretty tall in the front.

You have more droop than my current rig has travel...

Work got done in the 'Dena.
Found a set of those spark plug wire insulators. These should do the trick. Tried one on for size...

The time hath come to end an era. <taps playing>

There goes the rest of the frame. I'm going to take to the recycling center and see if they'll give me $5 for it

Rear tub got a little manscaping done too. Cut off just under the tailgate. Sorry Adam, all your nice bodywork is now gone. A sweet dimple died bumper will go there soon.

The B-pillar in on the list. Here is my seat mocked in, this is very close to the final location. The mastercrafts are super comfy

Went out and found some big-boy shocks. These Fox 2.5 14's are going to have to poke thru the hood. The mount required a little creativity, it will come out super clean stay tuned. (I wish I had a band saw)

TRD laid down some TIG welds on the front gussets. Looks super clean as always.

It is raining ash in Los Angeles.

Did some work. Cleaned off the old spring hangers to make way for the link brackets. The lower link will be fully outside the frame. Its mocked in with a piece of 1.5" tube I had laying around. The rear axle is sitting at ride height.

TRD cut out the fenders, the shocks will be mounted to the lower link and run up thru the fender.

We found a deal that was too good to pass up. Some dude from AZ sold us a set of 4 shocks.

They are Kuster 3.0" triple bypasses -- 20" stroke, came off an old Walker Evans trophy truck. I'm going to have big travel in the rear now 8) ...the goal is to pull 20" bumped and strapped. 9" up 11" down. These will be used in conjunction with a set of 2.0" dual rate coil overs that are cantilevered off the link.

Of course TRD charged one up and ran it on the shock dyno, heres a plot.

This is where the shock will be at full bump. The upper mounting location will be about head level with respect to the driver.

KUSTERS!!!Arguably the shock that started it all.

The rear got linked. All mounts and links are tacked in for now in case something needs to change. The lowers are 2" .250 DOM w/ 1-1/4" heims at the frame end and uniballs at the axle. Lowers will use 3/4" hardware. Uppers are 1-3/4" .120 DOM w/johnny joints.

The truss is started - TRD laid down some beads :smokin:, it'll get plated in later on. The upper link mounts will get boxed and reinforced too.

Had to do a little trimming to get the uppers to clear

These pics were taken very close to ride height. 8" of up travel appears to be the limit of what my body tub can handle.

8" inches of uptravel is a hell of a lot for a frame and full body Jeep though

Any updates on this beast? It's been awhile!

Do I need to come by with some Old E to kickstart some progress on this heap?
