Italy Euro 2024 squad: Luciano Spalletti's full team ahead of the tournament
The Italy Euro 2024 squad is gearing up for an important summer in which they'll look to defend their continental crown, though under different management this time around.
Since the last Euros three years ago, it's hardly been smooth sailing for one of football's most decorated nations: they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, and they made somewhat hard work of sealing their place at Euro 2024. The Italy Euro 2024 squad may look a lot different to the successful one from three years ago, with stalwarts Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci both having moved on, but there's still a great mix of experience and youth in the team.
Gianluigi Donnarumma has developed into the leader he promised to become as a teenager, with the goalkeeper now captaining the squad, while Jorginho, Nicolo Barella and Federico Chiesa are all important members, too. Plus, with the emerging talent of Destiny Udogie, there's still reason to get excited about the Italy Euro 2024 squad.
The Azzurri – who have been placed into arguably the toughest Euro 2024 group with Spain, Croatia and Albania – might not be as strong as the tournament three years ago, but then again they weren't among the favourites that time, either. If they manage to reach the knockout stages and fixtures go their way, then anything can happen.
Roberto Mancini's decision to quit the national team in August came as a shock – and Luciano Spalletti's appointment came as something of one, too.

The former Inter Milan and Roma manager had recently started a year-long sabbatical after leading Napoli to last season's Serie A title – but he jumped at the chance to take over as Italy boss. He's managed to get to grips with the Italy Euro 2024 squad relatively quickly, too, as the Italian boss targets more glory.

Italian success has historically been built on a robust rearguard action – and their last line of defence, Gianluigi Donnarumma, was their main man en route to Euro 2020 glory.
The hero in the penalty shootout victory over England in the final at Wembley, Donnarumma has more than lived up to the immense potential he showed as a youngster – when he broke into the AC Milan first team aged just 16.
Now 25, he's still a baby in goalkeeping terms, but the towering PSG shot-stopper has already established himself as one of the world's best in his position. With more than 61 appearances already for the national team, if he manages to maintain a similar level for the next 15 years he could well reach obscene numbers on the international stage.

Sometimes, all you need to do is deliver a blue shirt with the national flag on it.
While Adidas didn't give us nearly enough France shirts with red, white and blue stripes on the shoulders – opting to hide the Tricolor in white stripes – they've done so for the Italian national side. This is a work of art.
The Italian flag is again present, the blue collar is a nice touch and this is one that feels timeless. You could tell us it was Italy's shirt 20 years ago and only the Adi logo would give away the lie.
How many players are Italy allowed to take to Euro 2024?
The Italy Euro 2024 squad will be made up of 26 players. UEFA initially planned on reducing the size of teams to 23, the size they used to be prior to the Covid-19 affected Euro 2020, but teams lobbied successfully for the expanded squads to remain.
