  • MEET THE PASTOR

    • Fr. Pawel Sass was born on June 20, 1977 in Poland. He was baptized one month later in the Roman Catholic Faith. After graduating High School Fr Sass pursued a college education at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and graduated with Masters of Arts in Theology and Journalism in 2002. He received Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Françoise from the French Ministry of Education. Fr. Sass worked as a radio reporter for Radio Plus Poznan. He speaks Polish, Russian, English, French, Spanish and Italian. 

      Fr. Pawel has three siblings: one brother (is also a priest) Fr. Piotr Sass is a pastor and vice-rector of the Seminary Redemptoris Mater in Luxembourg. Two sisters Katarzyna (five children) and Urszula (four children).

      In 2003 Fr. Sass was sent to the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Seminary in Washington, DC., associated with the Neocatechumenal Way (lay postbaptismal catechumenate and faith formation). As a seminarian he was assigned to: St. Matthias in Lanham, MD., St. Ambrose, Cheverly, MD., Holy Redeemer, Kensington, MD., and St. Michael the Archangel in Silver Spring, MD. From 2005 to 2008 Fr. Sass was working as a missionary with the Neocatechumenal Way in Portland, OR, and Phoenix, AZ. 

      Fr. Sass graduated Catholic University of America with S.T.L. (Sacred Theology License) in Liturgical Studies (specialization in Early Christian Liturgy). Fr. Pawel was ordained priest on June 20, 2009 at the Basilica National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC by Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl. He served as a parochial vicar at St. Martin of Tours in Gaitherburg, MD – 2009-2013 and for nine months at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lexington Park, MD. In November 2013 Fr. Sass was appointed a pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Washington, DC until July 8, 2020.

      Fr. Sass loves street evangelization and outreach to the community. He serves as a member of the Seminary Formation Board. He is a State Chaplain of the DC Knights of Columbus and Moderator of the Sodality Union of the Archdiocese of Washington.
