Marcy S. Thacher

June 17, 1961 - May 1, 2022

ANDOVER – Marcy S. Thacher, 60, passed away on Sunday (May 1, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Mrs. Thacher was born on June 17, 1961 in Tonawanda to David S. and Thelma (Scott) Barager. She attended Keshequa Central School in Nunda and went to Genesee Community College where she received her Associate’s Degree in Human Services. On March 25, 2006 Marcy married James A. Thacher and this year would celebrate their 20-year anniversary of being together.

Marcy worked at ARA in Wellsville and later at ARC in Belmont at the Corbin Hill House as a resident counselor. In 2006 she started working at Dunkin Donuts in Wellsville and retired from there as a manager, after ten years, in 2016.

Along with her husband, Marcy is survived by their children, Kelley Thacher of Wellsville, Russell (Melissa) Thacher of Dilworth, Minn., Brad (Rebecca) Thacher of Hardin, Ky., Matthew (Jaimee) Williams of Wellsville, and Jaylyn Thacher of Andover; two brothers, Mark (Jessica) Barager of Casper, Wyo., and Marty (Trudy Miller) Barager of Hunt; one sister-in-law, Carol Sherwood, who was really her soul-sister, of Wellsville; eight grandchildren, Collin Byron, Noah Byron, Nadayah Fredricks, Brayden Thacher, Logan Thacher, Blake Geffers, Shelby Geffers, and Brody Williams; four nephews, David, Jeremy, Jerrod, and Scott; two nieces, Jackie and Shawna; Abel Reed whom she babysat and loved; good friends, Raymond “Fred” and Regina Conklin as well as their son, Kevin Wilson; and a dear friend, Brenda Welch.

Marcy was preceded in death by both her father and mother.

Marcy enjoyed baking, especially cupcakes, breads, and cookies. She was delighted to make family birthday cakes and had a special touch with peanut butter frosting. She was also a very good cook.

She had an artsy eye as she was gifted in handcrafting a vast array of items. Most recently she made Easter baskets embellished with terry cloth bunnies, for her grandchildren. She enjoyed creating “Diamond Dot” pictures, many of which Jim framed for her. Her door wreaths were beautiful creations. Many of her works of love were passed along as gifts.

Marcy took great pleasure in growing things. She planted vegetables and canned the bounty from her garden. She also kept many house plants, which she often shared with others, whether they were growers or not.

Marcy had a very caring heart and was always willing to be a help to others. She loved people in general and she had a generous nature that led her to share her resources. She loved birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. She was thrilled to watch the daily horde that came to the table she spread with seed, corn, and even peanuts. Even with these creatures she displayed her generosity.

Recently, Marcy began to attend the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wellsville, with her friend, Brenda.
