The official trailer for Amazon's Invincible shows fans' first look at Robert Kirkman's animated superhero series. Kirkman and Cory Walker created the original comic book series, which ran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2018. In 2017, Seth Rogen signed on to adapt the series into a feature film, but it made very little progress before Amazon announced Kirkman would executive produce an animated series based on it. Invincible follows the life of teenager Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) whose life is thrown for a loop when he discovers his father is an extraterrestrial superhero named Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). Further complicating matters is Mark's own growing superpowers, which he's still learning to master.

The news of Kirkman's animated Invincible arrived in 2018, and since then, updates regarding the series has been slow going. Several major casting announcements were made this year, particularly the news that a few Walking Dead alums will voice Invincible's Guardians of the Globe. Fans' first real peek at Invincible came in August, when the character designs for the main cast were revealed. However, many noted that couldn't quite replace a true trailer, and the wait for series footage has continued - until now.

As part of the New York Comic-Con panel on Invincible, Amazon debuted the very first trailer for the animated series. Much of the trailer is centered purely on Mark discovering and trying out his abilities, though fans will also hear some fatherly commentary from Omni-Man. Check it out down below.

While it's just a quick teaser for Invincible, the trailer very quickly establishes both the series' animation style and its gore levels. Kirkman fans will know he's also responsible for the zombie series The Walking Deadso it's no surprise that while this is an animated show, he won't be straying far from the blood and guts. One notable shot sees Mark squeezing a bad guy's head so hard his eye pops out; that definitely sets the tone for what's to come.

Beyond that, there's a very notable piece of information that arrives at the end of the trailer: Invincible is headed to Amazon in 2021. Since the series first went into development in 2018, many expected it to have premiered by now, but it appears they'll have to wait at least a few months more. Most likely, Invincible will premiere early in the year. Until then, fans might be treated to a second trailer in the lead up to the first season, one that might even reveal more of the star-studded cast. For the time being, though, this peek at Invincible is bound to hype up fan excitement and could perhaps draw in viewers who aren't familiar with the comics. Invincible is getting ready to land, and early signs for success seem promising.
