The state was a Mexican colony and the lone star represents the state as a sovereign republic. You will see the Lone Star on the State Seal of Texas and Texas State Flag. Dallas-Forth Worth-Arlington is the biggest metropolitan region in the state. The state is made up of 254 counties.

Because of its huge area, the state features diverse landscapes that have similarities with both South and Southwestern United States. In spite of the fact that the state of Texas is commonly related with the deserts in the Southwest, below 10% of the land territory of the state is desert.

The state of Texas is home to 29,145,505 residents (According to 2020 U.S. Census Bureau). It attained its statehood in 1845. It is 10% bigger than France and nearly two times as big as Germany or Japan. If it were a nation, it would have been the 40th biggest country after Chile and Zambia. Three of its boundaries are determined by rivers.

Geographically, Texas is divided into 14 soil zones, 10 weather zones, and 11 discrete environmental areas. Politically, the state is divided into North, South, East, West and Central Texas.
