Comprising four floors and 150,000 square feet next door to MIT’s campus, the new Engine Accelerator offers startups specialized lab equipment, advanced machining, fabrication facilities, office space, and a range of startup support services.

Senior Mikayla Britsch sees civil and environmental engineering as a vocation requiring both technical and people skills. “It calls on you to be in constant dialogue with others. No one can work in civil engineering alone,” she says.

With a newly developed catalyst, researchers are working to set up systems to reduce methane in the air at dairy farms and other sites. “Methane emission removal is the fastest way that we can ensure immediate results for reduced global warming,” Audrey Parker says.

Whether developing alternatives to “forever chemicals,” helping universities use less fossil fuel, or building eco-friendly companies, MIT’s alumni are doing their part to protect the health of the planet.
