The 16 Best Laguna Beach Restaurants

Nick’s Laguna Beach

440 South Coast Highway // +1 (949) 376-8595

It’s no wonder this local standout has received so many #1 rankings. Featuring classic American comfort food and snazzy cocktails with amazingly creative twists, we found dining here to be an outstanding experience.

The atmosphere is casual, with impeccable standards of hospitality from check-in to check. A must-do appetizer is their renowned Bacon Deviled Eggs. This delightful starter is lightly fried and topped with applewood bacon. It’s a Nick’s original, and it’s awesome.

I ordered the Tuna Tartare from the appetizer menu and it was quite a hearty portion. Sashimi-grade with spicy soy, micro wasabi, and avocado with crispy wontons, this was a perfect light lunch choice.

Another highly recommended house specialty is the tantalizingly popular Original Ribeye Melt featuring sliced ribeye, Swiss cheese, red wine onions, and mustard bacon sauce, all sandwiched between grilled parmesan sourdough.

Skip the fries and order the Kale and Quinoa Salad with red grapes, cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, red peppers, parmesan, and champagne vinaigrette. It’s healthy…and divine.

For exceptional seafood, Nick’s is a perfect choice among the Laguna Beach restaurants.

Broadway by Amar Santana

328 Glenneyre St, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19497158234

Broadway by Chef Amar Santana offers a dining experience that beautifully marries seasonal New American cuisine with an artistic, industrial New York-themed setting.

The restaurant’s ambiance, complete with an open kitchen, allows diners to witness the culinary artistry in real-time, adding a dynamic element to the meal.

The attention to detail in both the preparation and presentation of each dish speaks volumes about their dedication.

The open kitchen layout not only showcases the chefs’ impressive coordination and skill in a compact space but also enhances the overall dining experience by bringing the culinary process closer to the table.

The menu is a testament to creativity and flavor precision. The raviolo with duck prosciutto was an explosion of taste, setting a high standard for the courses that followed.

The octopus, paired with its mousse, took us on a sensory journey, combining textures and flavors in a way that was both innovative and delightful.

The bone marrow and oxtail spread over charred sourdough was indulgently smooth, akin to spreading butter, with each bite melting in the mouth.

Other standout dishes included the beautifully cooked duck, enhanced by its thoughtfully selected sides, and the beef cheek mole, which masterfully balanced the richness of chocolate with the warmth of spices.

The stuffed poblano was a surprise hit, its filling contrasting sweetly against the spicy bite of the pepper, creating a memorable flavor profile.

A side of perfectly fried French fries proved essential for enjoying the last of the exquisite sauces—a small detail that underscored the thoughtful composition of the meal.

Dessert was no less impressive, with a rich chocolate cake and a refreshing honey ice cream served with lemon meringue, providing a sweet and satisfying conclusion to our culinary adventure.

The local artwork displayed around the restaurant, including a striking portrait of Anthony Bourdain made from screws, enriches the atmosphere, linking the culinary arts to visual creativity and enhancing the cultural experience.

It’s a place I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone visiting Laguna Beach looking for a meal that is as much an art form as it is a celebration of flavors.

Driftwood Kitchen

619 Sleepy Hollow Lane // +1 (949) 715-7700

You gotta love a Laguna Beach restaurant with a motto “Any closer and you would have to swim.”

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this premier waterfront venue provides an ocean-to-table dining experience utilizing the finest and freshest seafood and steaks, along with breathtaking Pacific Ocean vistas.

We decided on a shared salad and small plates, beginning with Roasted Beet and Arugula Salad with avocado, grilled sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, and feta cheese, topped with lime vinaigrette.

Next, a selection of east and west-coast oysters with a classic mignonette was superb.

The DWK Crab Cake is also spectacular, served with an endive and Asian pear salad and dill elbni. Coupled with a few glasses of Pinot Grigio, and we couldn’t have felt more satisfied.

If you’re looking for a Laguna Beach restaurant on the water, Driftwood, on the water, really does stand out from all the Laguna Beach restaurants.

Seabutter – Laguna Beach

1100 S Coast Hwy #303, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19499426042

Seabutter in Laguna Beach is a hidden spot located on the 3rd floor of the Village Faire Shoppes, offering a sushi experience that is both exceptional and memorable.

This outstanding restaurant combines amazing views with a vibrant atmosphere, complemented by a tasteful selection of music that enhances the dining experience.

Upon arrival, the staff immediately impressed with their friendliness and expertise, readily recommending dishes and guiding us through the menu.

This helpful approach made choosing from their array of sushi options an enjoyable and easy process.

The quality of the sushi at Seabutter is unparalleled, with each piece showcasing the freshness and skill behind its preparation.

The sweet shrimp, served with fried heads on the side, was a standout dish, offering a delightful contrast in textures that was truly amazing.

tempura

Other sushi delights included salmon, yellowtail, and eel, each slice more succulent than the last.

The tempura also deserves a mention; it was perfectly fried, achieving a crispy exterior without sacrificing the delicate flavors of the ingredients inside.

For those looking to explore unique flavor combinations, Seabutter’s “sushi sushi” offerings are a must-try.

The Tuna Citrus and Salmon Avo rolls are particularly innovative, blending traditional sushi elements with unexpected twists that tantalize the palate.

Having dined at Seabutter multiple times, I can confidently say that I’ve never been disappointed with any of my selections.

Everything on the menu is prepared with a level of care and expertise that is difficult to find elsewhere.

I recommend Seabutter without hesitation to anyone visiting Laguna Beach. Whether you are a sushi connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a meal with a view, Seabutter provides a dining experience that exceeds expectations, making every visit a delightful culinary adventure.

Alessa by Chef Pirozzi

234 Forest Avenue // + 1 (949) 497-8222

We love this bustling pizzeria located just steps from the beach. First of all, because Chef Alessandro Pirozzi, born in Naples, Italy, brings with him traditional recipes from his own family’s Italian kitchen.

Though pasta and pizza are the mainstays here, pizza, in the classic Neapolitan tradition, is only served at dinner. That was fine by us, as we once lived in Naples and were well-versed in this custom.

So, pizza at dinner it was, in a lovely outdoor candlelit setting. Accompanied by a bottle of Chianti, the flavorful pizza we shared was a Crispy Prosciutto pie topped with San Marzano sauce, tomato, goat cheese, house-made spicy oil, mozzarella, and crispy prosciutto. Yep, it tasted just like Napoli!

With such an extensive menu and artfully crafted Italian food, we both agreed a return visit is in order. If you want authentic Neapolitan pizza in Laguna Beach, visit Alessa.

AhbA

31732 Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19495494556

This place is a delightful surprise, tucked away in what might be described as a hole-in-the-wall location, yet it delivers an outstanding dining experience that rivals any high-end restaurant.

This little spot has quickly become a favorite among locals, and it’s clear that those in the know come here for some of the best burgers and brunch in town.

The atmosphere at AhbA is a perfect blend of laid-back beach vibes and urban cool. During my visit, the backdrop of classic hip-hop tunes added a vibrant energy that paired beautifully with the ocean air wafting through the open spaces of the restaurant.

Watching the kitchen staff work was like observing artists at their craft—meticulous, passionate, and completely engrossed in delivering food that delights.

The menu, though perhaps not extensive, is packed with meticulously crafted dishes. The burger, made with wagyu beef, stands out as a must-try.

It was incredibly juicy and flavorful, each bite a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill behind its preparation.

burger

The halibut I ordered was another highlight, perfectly cooked with a side that complemented it beautifully.

The little gem Caesar salad was another hit, offering a fresh crunch and a dressing bursting with umami, proving that even the simplest dishes are executed with flair at AhbA.

And for dessert, the carrot cake was the perfect ending to our meal. It struck an excellent balance between sweet and spicy, topped with just the right amount of cream cheese frosting.

Despite the restaurant being quite busy, with a line out the door at times, the wait was well worth it.

The staff managed to be attentive and efficient, ensuring everyone was seated and served as quickly as possible.

If you find yourself in Laguna Beach looking for a place that combines great food with a great vibe, AhbA should definitely be on your list.

Sapphire Cellar.Craft.Cook

1200 S. Coast Highway // + 1 (949) 715-9888

Located in the historic Old Pottery Barn building on Laguna Beach’s main drag, this fun, delightful eatery serves daily brunch, lunch, and dinner. Dishes here are so fresh, creative, and refined, and we’re always tempted to dine here twice on one of our weekend getaways.

With exceptional service, quality, and value, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the most popular places to dine in this coastal beach town.

Some of our favorites include the savory Steamed Manilla Clams, Mexican White Prawns, and P.E.I. Mussels. Served over a saffron pearl couscous, with Spanish chorizo, melted garlic, and charred tomato broth, you’ll need extra bread to sop up the heavenly sauce.

Laguna beach restaurants

The American Wagyu Beef Burger is another winner, topped with Spanish cheddar cheese, shaved onion, and a “secret” sauce on a challah bun. If you’re not sharing, you’ll be asking for “to go” boxes.

Factor in the craft cocktails and beers, and you’ve found one of the perfect places to eat when choosing from all the Laguna Beach restaurants.

Rumari

1826 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19494940400

Rumari offers a truly enchanting Italian dining experience, combining traditional dishes with a picturesque setting.

Nestled in a family-run establishment, the restaurant’s warm decor and twinkle-lit patio create an ambiance that is both inviting and romantic.

Located on an upper deck in Laguna Beach, Rumari boasts not only exceptional Italian cuisine but also stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

The sight of the ocean across the street and the sunset over the buildings makes dining here an unforgettable experience.

The atmosphere is relaxed and versatile, suitable for a casual outing where jeans are perfectly acceptable, or a dressed-up evening out. It’s this flexibility, coupled with the classic charm of the place, that makes Rumari a standout.

One of Rumari’s highlights is its outdoor dining area on the upper parking lot, which beautifully captures the essence of a quaint Italian ristorante.

The setting, combined with the food and the ocean view, transports you straight to the Italian coast.

The culinary offerings are sublime, with each dish showcasing the robust flavors and freshness characteristic of authentic Italian cuisine.

Bolognese

The Bolognese and Fettuccine del Chef come highly recommended, each prepared with a depth of flavor that speaks to the restaurant’s commitment to culinary excellence.

The seared tuna over arugula was another delight, perfectly cooked and paired with crisp greens for a refreshing contrast.

Additionally, the focaccia bread served with fresh olive oil and balsamic dip was a perfect start to our meal, setting the stage for the delicious courses that followed.

Given the quality of the food, the stunning views, and the warm atmosphere, Rumari’s pricing feels more than fair.

It’s a place that manages to balance quality and value, making it accessible for various occasions.

I wholeheartedly recommend Rumari to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Laguna Beach.

Whether it’s the food, the ambiance, or the view, Rumari excels in every aspect, making it a must-visit for both locals and visitors alike.

Splashes Restaurant

1555 South Coast Highway // +1 (877) 741-5908

Located at the iconic Surf and Sand Resort, Splashes Restaurant offers magnificent oceanfront views. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the restaurant’s name comes from the booming Pacific surf surging below the dining deck.

For an early lunch, we chose a selection of appetizers that fit the bill to a T. Brussels Sprouts are served with honey goat cheese, roasted quince, and puffed sorghum with a yuzu balsamic reduction—a combination we’d never tasted before but it was marvelous.

The Crispy Octopus with daikon pepper, sunchoke cream, rhubarb, cured olives, poblano, and crisp sea beans was so good, we should have ordered two.

Instead, we opted for a shared dessert, the Lavender and Earl Grey Crème Brûlée—light and tasty with elderflower and fruit topping. The ideal way to end a perfect lunch. This is beach-front dining at its best in Laguna Beach.

Selanne Steak Tavern

1464 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19497159881

Next, this is a remarkable dining destination that combines sophisticated fare with an elegant atmosphere, all housed within a landmark property.

From the moment you step inside, the restaurant’s refined yet welcoming decor sets the tone for an exceptional dining experience.

The evening began with a glass of Daou Cabernet Sauvignon, a choice that proved to be perfect for complementing the various dishes we selected.

Our first course, the Pacific Diver Scallops, were a delight—juicy and savory, they set a high standard for the courses that followed.

For our main dishes, we chose the 14oz Ribeye and the Nordic Blu Salmon, accompanied by a side of Truffle Risotto.

The steak was a standout, cooked precisely to our liking, showcasing the quality of the meat and the skill of the kitchen.

The salmon, with its crispy exterior giving way to a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth interior, was equally impressive and easily one of the best fish dishes I’ve encountered recently.

Ribeye

Despite feeling fully satisfied, the allure of the dessert menu was too tempting to resist. We opted for the Cinnamon Walnut Monkey Bread, which was a delightful end to our meal.

The dish was paired with a Smoke ‘n’ Fashion cocktail, adding a smoky, sophisticated twist to our dessert experience.

The service throughout the evening was nothing short of impeccable. Attentive and knowledgeable staff ensured our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable, contributing to the overall excellence of the evening.

For anyone visiting Laguna Beach, a dinner at Selanne Steak Tavern is highly recommended. It’s a place where every detail is considered, ensuring each guest has a memorable dining experience.

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply in search of a top-tier meal, Selanne Steak Tavern promises to deliver an outstanding experience.

 Las Brisas

361 Cliff Drive // +1 (949) 497-5434

Voted the best waterfront dining in Orange County, Las Brisas is a Southern California landmark with its magnificent setting overlooking a Pacific Ocean promenade bluff.

This romantic restaurant, once the charming, historic Victor Hugo Inn, specializes in Coastal California cuisine infused with the flavors of Baja, Mexico.

Though breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here, our favorite is to time dinner with the sunset, as views here are simply spectacular.

Of no surprise, seafood reigns supreme, though landlubbers have their choice of alternative selections.

Our favorites hands down are the Seared Sea Scallops with a cauliflower purée, tomatillo, green olives, and sparkling wine beurre blanc. The combination works magic on the palate.

Whole Fish Branzino is seared on the plancha (iron grill) and served with mixed vegetables and roasted potatoes. Simply divine, and so Baja-inspired.

For a Mexican flair with great seafood in Laguna, check Las Brisas.

Skyloft Laguna Beach

422 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States // +19497151550

Skyloft is a modern dining spot that pairs upscale tavern fare with breathtaking ocean views, making it a standout rooftop venue in Laguna Beach.

The setting is particularly magical at sunset when you can enjoy the radiant colors of the sky against the backdrop of the cliffs and main beach.

The venue’s popularity is evident, especially during peak hours when finding a table can be a challenge.

However, planning your visit just before or after the rush ensures a choice spot to enjoy not just the views, but also the ambiance and meal without the crowds.

The cocktail menu at Skyloft deserves special mention, with drinks that are not only expertly crafted but also highlight fresh, vibrant flavors.

The pomegranate margarita was especially memorable, offering a mix of sweet and tart that was both refreshing and beautifully suited to the setting.

chicken sandwich

It’s the kind of drink that elevates the entire dining experience, meshing perfectly with the lively atmosphere and stunning views.

As for the food, it matched the high quality of the drinks. I opted for the chicken sandwich, which was flawlessly prepared with just the right amount of seasoning for a savory finish that was satisfying but not overwhelming.

The portion was ideal, making it a fulfilling yet balanced meal. My friend enjoyed the 2-item BBQ platter featuring brisket and pulled pork, both of which were tender, flavorful, and smoked to perfection.

From the delicious food and creative drinks to the live music and panoramic ocean views, everything about Skyloft makes it worth a visit.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Laguna Beach, this rooftop spot is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to enjoy a meal in a truly spectacular setting. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Mozambique

1740 South Coast Highway // +1 (949) 715-1550

For a totally exotic twist and an unforgettable dining experience, Mozambique is one fun and adventuresome place to visit. Its atmosphere and immensely flavorful cuisine are decidedly unique, both inspired by the South African coastline.

The restaurant is divided into separate themed dining areas, one of which is an open-air rooftop lounge with a panoramic ocean vista. The Durban Room, Mozambique’s latest renovation, is a piano lounge resembling a historic 1920s speakeasy with live music.

The Sampler Plate with prawns, chicken pops, farmer’s sausage and beef samoosas served with Mozambique’s own homemade robust Peri-Peri sauce is a perfect introduction to the best South African dishes.

Durban Curry with tender braised lamb is another winner.

Save room for dessert as we highly recommend the Portuguese Hot Butter Pudding, a baked spongy cake, caramelized with butter, brown sugar, and brandy, served with whipped cream.

If you fancy a visit to the African continent without leaving town, try this Laguna Beach restaurant.

The Deck on Laguna Beach

627 Sleepy Hollow Lane // +1 (949) 494-6700

This casual eatery located at Pacific Edge Hotel offers the quintessential on-the-beach dining experience. It’s a relaxed, laid-back, breezy place for light bites and cocktails, or more hearty seafood selections.

Ocean views are spectacular, and we love their deck and drink menus featuring oysters, shellfish, a seafood tower, smaller share plates, soups, salads, sandwiches, all in addition to the main entrees.

If you’re a seafood Louie lover, the Dungeoness Crab Louis Salad is really fresh, with plenty of crabs, and probably one of the best I’ve had in years.

The Grilled Mahi-Mahi Sandwich is also a winner, especially with a Cajun remoulade on rustic ciabatta bread.

Accompanied by fresh ocean breezes, this place exudes Southern California cool! The place to go for outdoor dining is Laguna Beach.

230 Forest Avenue

230 Forest Avenue // +1 (949) 494-2545

“Casual, upbeat, sexy, and a must-try.” That’s how a friend described this eatery in the heart of the village.

Serving innovative California cuisine, this highly-recommended restaurant was voted “Best Seafood, Best Happy Hour” and “Best Desserts” by Laguna Beach Magazine. These accolades are well-deserved.

Once an in-town open-air market, this impressive eatery still has the original wooden accordion doors at its entrance.

Award-winning chef Marc Cohen has created an array of delectable entrees, served both in and outdoors at this classy California-modern dining establishment.

Open daily for lunch and dinner (the menu is the same), besties here include Toasted Garlic Salmon with black Thai rice, jardinière vegetables, with red curry coconut butter.

The Maple Brined Porkchop is served over soft polenta with apple, raisins, pine nuts, and a calvados demi-glacé.

These entrees explode with flavor. Presentation is likewise impressive, and service impeccable.

The Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding with seasonal berries, vanilla bean ice cream, and anglaise is devilishly divine. So much so, if it was proper, you’d want to lick the plate!

This is a perfect place earning its spot on this list of best Laguna beach restaurants.

Reunion Kitchen + Drink

610 North Coast Highway, STE 102 // +1 (949) 226-8393

Locals are totally into urban chic Reunion Kitchen and Drink, and we understand why.

Happy Hours are immensely popular due to their sensational small plates featuring items like Bacon-Wrapped Jalapenos,

Crispy Asparagus Spears, Avocado Wontons, and Short Rib Sliders.

Instead of a selection of appetizers like many restaurants choose for happy hour, Reunion’s are all included at a discounted price, along with cocktails and other libations.

Old surfing photos and classic early to mid-century pics of Laguna Beach line the eatery walls, paying homage to its storied beach town history. It’s a delightful place to dine with a definite West Coast feel. Exactly the image to portray for Laguna Beach restaurants.
