Prashanth Neel’s latest outing, KGF Chapter 2, continues to charm audiences and has surpassed the collections of the latest Hindi release in India: Jersey. A remake of 2019 Telugu film Jersey, the new Shahid Kapoor-starrer could only collect $1.8 million over the weekend while the Hindi version of KGF Chapter 2 managed $6.8 million over the same weekend - its second weekend since release.

Gowtam Tinnanuri directed the original as well as the Hindi version of Jersey. The film made a dismal opening of $0.117 million in India on April 22, Friday. The collections picked up over the weekend but were majorly affected because KGF Chapter 2 continued to rule the box office across Hindi belts. The film earned $0.13 million and $0.18 million on the second and third days of the release respectively.

Jersey stars Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. It traces the journey of a cricketer who quit the game at his prime, only to make the toughest efforts and get back in the sport for the sake of his son.

The Hindi version of KGF Chapter 2 alone has collected $41.8 million. It earned $6.8 million over the April 22-24 weekend alone. Till Sunday, KGF Chapter 2, that stars Yash in the lead role, grossed $114.93 million worldwide. In USA alone, KGF Chapter 2 earned $237,500 while Jersey totaled $52,547. Comscore SCOR listed KGF Chapter 2 at the fifth slot among highest grossing films worldwide this weekend. The movie made it to the second spot in the opening weekend.

KGF Chapter 2 is a follow-up to the 2018 hit film KGF Chapter 1. The two-part movie series follows the riches-to-rags story of Rocky (Yash) - an orphan who worked his way up and became the king of a much-coveted gold mine. It features Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash, Srinidhi Shetty and Sanjay Dutt. Tandon essays the role of the Indian Prime Minister in the film while Dutt is one of the antagonists, Adheera.
