About the Author

George Harrison (1943–2001) joined the band that would become The Beatles in 1958, when he was just 14. His richly varied solo career as both musician and producer began with the acclaimed album All Things Must Pass and included the landmark Concert for Bangladesh, considered the first fund-raising rock show, as well as collaborations with musicians such as Ravi Shankar and The Traveling Wilburys. He is also remembered as the producer of such films as Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Mona Lisa. George Harrison married Olivia Arias in 1978 and together they have a son, Dhani.

George is my favorite Beatle. He has been ever since he introduced the Sitar and India-inspired songs to the roster. Of all four, he’s the most knowledgeable guitarist and his songs after the group disbanded are my faves. Naturally, I couldn’t pass this book up when I came across it.
It is insightful, entertaining and fun!
This isn’t the book you read through like w novel, this is the book you keep on your coffee table or nightstand to savor!
The begging is a little bio of sorts, then we go into some stellar photos but the best part is the stories about his songs! I had no idea Savoy Truffle was inspired by Eric Clapron’s bad tooth and a box of chocolates!
Whether you are a Harrison fan or a Beatles fan in general, this is a remarkable book to have !!!

This updated and expanded edition is all a fan of George ever need. His own words, with additional commentary by the one who knew him best..Olivia. I was a bit disappointed that some of the material from his last album ( Brainwashed) wasn't included, but the additional content from the original edition makes that a slight quibble. The entire book gives us ordinary mortals insight into the songwriting process of George as well as his spiritual development. He was a complicated artist, something he never denied and something he worked on right up until his death.

To say this is an autobiography would be to use the term very loosely. Those who are purchasing the book should be aware of this. While the volume is several hundred pages long, the actual "autobiographical" information is contained to the first 75 (ish) pages, and this section is effectively an extended interview between George and Neil Aspinall. By this I mean, George discusses something for a few paragraphs and Neil chimes in with italicized text to elaborate or give context to George's musings. The vast, vast majority of the book is scans of song lyrics with short paragraphs (or sometimes even just a few sentences from George) explaining something about the song, writing the song, or the legacy of the song.

That being said, this is a lovely book. While it may not be as detailed in the autobiographical section as many would like, the handwritten lyrics are lovely and the piece is very well laid out with beautiful artwork and photographs. Fans of George Harrison will certainly enjoy this book, even if it does not provide much by way of autobiography.
