DETROIT -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating Ford over customer complaints that a 2019 recall did not fix an issue with tailgates in several models of Ford trucks. According to the Associated Press, the NHTSA has received 11 complaints regarding the non-fix and other complaints of unintended tailgate openings following the recalls.
In 2019, Ford recalled more than 300,000 trucks to address an issue that caused the power tailgates to open unexpectedly while driving. When the tailgates open, it can lead to unrestrained cargo falling out of the back of the truck.
The recall involved 2017-2020 year models of the F-250, F-350 and F-450 truck.
The NHTSA says it will investigate the issues and how often the problem is occurring. It’s possible the investigation will lead to more recalls. Ford did not responds to AP requests for comment.
