'America's Got Talent' finale: From Archie Williams to Broken Roots, who could win it all?

After an unprecedented season riddled with COVID-19 restrictions, injuries and illness, "America's Got Talent" is one night away from crowning its $1 million champion.

"Even though we were in the middle of the pandemic and Simon (Cowell’s) accident, I don't know if this is going to sound horrible, but I wouldn’t change a thing," newcomer Sofía Vergara said while judging her first finale.

Cowell was unable to attend after breaking his back in an electric bike accident in early August, but he did send his best wishes: "Good luck to all the contestants and thank you all for tuning in. I wish I was there," he tweeted Tuesday.

"America's Got Talent" judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara talk with host Terry Crews during the final performances show.

The acts will need all the luck they can get because the competition is loaded with talent. The finalists include three golden buzzer winners – spoken-word poet Brandon Leake (Howie Mandel) and singers Roberta Battaglia (Vergara) and Cristina Rae (Heidi Klum) – along with aerialist Alan Silva, acrobats Bello Sisters and dancing duo Bad Salsa, and singers Archie Williams, Daneliya Tuleshova, Kenadi Dodds and duo Broken Roots.

And it all comes down to this. The top 10 acts only had one more chance to blow America away. "This means more than any other performance. This is it," Mandel said.

Here's what happened:

Roberta Battaglia

The pint-size powerhouse may only be 11 years old, but she has an "old soul" and a mature voice to match, her father said in a video package ahead of her performance.

Vergara's Golden Buzzer winner opened the show with a rendition of Alessia Cara's "Scars to Your Beautiful." Mandel called Battaglia "the one to beat tonight."

"I really believe that. You have been an audience favorite throughout the season," he added.

Bad Salsa

The salsa duo – who previously performed via satellite from India during the quarterfinals and semifinals because of COVID-19 restrictions – were able to travel to the Universal Studios Hollywood's soundstage and perform live in front of the judges for the first time.

The judges agreed that it was a different experience watching up close. Bad Salsa wowed with their fast-paced, high-flying dance routine that included dizzying spin sequences and multiple death drops.

"I am so thankful that you came all the way from India for this performance. It's so amazing to see you guys in the flesh," Klum exclaimed. Mandel added: "Seeing you in person, it's so dynamic and so scary."

Vergara called it was "one of my favorite acts I've seen in my life."

Kenadi Dodds

The 15-year-old "small town girl" ditched the piano and picked up a guitar for a rendition of Carrie Underwood's "Love Wins." Klum said Dodds reminded her of "a young Taylor Swift."

Vergara and Mandel applauded her creative choices for her final performance and encouraged her not to hide.

"To see you standing and singing with your guitar is much more energetic," Vergara said. Mandel added, "That’s your forte. Don’t hide behind pianos. Don’t hide behind guitars."

Dodds dedicated her "AGT" journey to her family, who all suffer from an eye disease that gradually deteriorates the retina: "When I sing I feel like I am trying to take my family with me."

Brandon Leake

Leake's talent was a first on the "AGT" stage. "Knowing that I was the first poet … scared the living daylights out of me," the college counselor from Stockton, California, said ahead of his powerful poem dedicated to his newborn daughter.

Leake vocalized the unconditional love he has for "my beautiful daughter" Aaliyah: "With you in my grasp, I understood what it meant to wear my heart on my sleeve."

It was his most vulnerable act yet. Mandel said his Golden Buzzer winner left him "speechless." Vergara called his act "meaningful" and "hopeful." Klum added: "What a beautiful gift to your daughter and what a beautiful gift you are to us."

Leake first auditioned for "AGT" in 2017.

Broken Roots

The singing duo's Cinderella story continued Tuesday. Broken Roots was originally eliminated in Judge Cuts, but they got a second chance after another act dropped out. They made it all the way to the finale and didn't disappoint.

Despite meeting less than a year ago and performing together for the first time ever on "AGT," members Austin Edwards and Joey Kar's chemistry was undeniable during a rocking rendition of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight."

"What an amazing ride for you," Vergara said to the Chicago natives.

Mandel called their act "my favorite song that you have sung in this whole competition," but pointed out the overwhelming amount of singers in the finale: six of the top 10 acts.

"The singers tonight, you have the hardest job because you are going to cancel each other out," Mandel warned.

Bello Sisters

The Bello sisters brought out a special guest for their final acrobatic act of the season: Their father, who shot an arrow at a rose in one of his daughter’s mouths as they held an impressively agile stunt.

The group joined via satellite from Germany, the only act not in person.

Fellow German Klum called the sisters “true athletes” and noted that Mandel was “drooling” during their act. Mandel, however, called the routine “the slowest one of all your performances and a little bit shaky.” He wasn’t sure if it would be enough to win it all.

Archie Williams

Williams tapped into his traumatic experience of wrongful conviction during an emotional performance of "Blackbird" by the Beatles. Singing the lyrics, "You are waiting for this moment to be free," the song selection was poignant for Williams.

He served 37 years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted in 1983. But Williams said "with everything that I have gone through, I think it’s fate that led me this way."

Mandel said Williams is already a winner, whatever Wednesday's results. "You won your freedom, you won justice and you won a dream of coming from a tiny cell to the biggest stage on Earth," Mandel said.

Vergara called his performance "moving" and Klum added that he has "a special place in my heart." Williams said his "AGT" journey "is the best thing that has ever happened."

Daneliya Tuleshova

The 14-year-old native of Kazakhstan performed a powerful rendition of Sia's "Alive" in front of a jungle backdrop that looked straight out of Disney's 2009 film "Avatar." She showcased her stunning runs, which are all the more impressive at her age.

"Out of all the singers, even though you are a baby, you sound the most seasoned," Mandel said. Vergara noted that the "kids have been so good this season."

Alan Silva

Silva, the brother of daredevil Alfredo Silva from Deadly Games on Season 11 and "AGT: The Champions," flew to new heights during a visually stunning act under torrential downpour. (One of the perks of performing at the Universal Studios’ famed backlot.)

"It gets better and better. It was so artistic: The water, the fire," Vergara said. Mandel applauded Silva's difficulty: "That seemed like the most dangerous one and it was soaking wet."

Cristina Rae

Rae shared some heartwarming news ahead of her performance: She finally has her own home after battling homelessness while pregnant with her son, Jeremiah.

"I want my son to have the life I didn't have, and I fought to be here because of him," Rae said. She closed the show by flawlessly nailing high notes on Imagine Dragons' "Demons."

Mandel made a bold prediction. "You sang about your kingdom and this is your kingdom. From my perspective, you are the Queen. You are the one to beat."

Klum applauded her Golden Buzzer winner. "You definitely have a light that cannot be dimmed." She added that "AGT" saved "the best for last."

One things is for sure, the judges aren't envious of America's job.

"America, I am so thrilled not to be you tonight," Mandel quipped.

Fans can vote up to 10 times for each act on NBC.com/AGTvote, the "America's Got Talent" app and through Xfinity Voice Remote. The winner of Season 15 will be revealed during Wednesday's results show (NBC, 8 EDT/PDT).
