Hero Overview

I spent my whole life believing I was doing something good, for someone good, but it was a lie. And some part of me still wants to believe in that lie.
~ Hunter to Gus Porter.
You know what I'd like, Belos? I'd like to leave the Emperor's Coven, and never step foot in that throne room again. I'd like to study wild magic, and learn how to carve palismen. I'd like to attend Hexside as a regular student and play flyer derby with my friends. But most of all, I'd like to make sure you'd never hurt anyone again!
~ Hunter to Belos while slowly retaking control of his body.
You were tricked. That's what Belos does. He tricks people. But if it weren't you, it would have been someone else, and then there'd be no one left to fight back. So let's do that. Let's fight back.
~ Hunter reassuring Luz Noceda that she's not to blame for Belos' rise to power.

Hunter, formerly known as the Golden Guard, is a major character in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House.

He was originally the right-hand and nephew of Emperor Belos and the leader of the Emperor's Coven. However, during a misadventure in the Emperor's mind, he discovered that he is the latest in a line of Grimwalkers created to replace Belos' dead brother: Caleb Wittebane, that Belos murdered all prior Grimwalkers for "betraying" him, and that the purpose of the Day of Unity is to wipe out all the witches on the Boiling Isles. As a result, he defected from the Emperor's Coven, both because he could no longer morally justify working for Belos and because he knew Belos would murder him if he returned to the castle.

He is voiced by Zeno Robinson, who also voiced Omar in Craig of the Creek, Alain Albright in Ben 10, Hawks in My Hero Academia, Max Kanté and Nino Lahiffe in Miraculous Ladybug, and Thrash in Transformers Earthspark.

Appearance[]

Hunter is a young "witch" that has blonde hair, which has had the tip burnt by Kikimora, magenta eyes, and pointy ears. He also has a noticeable scar on his right cheek.

While staying in the Human Realm, Hunter had his hair and forelock trimmed by Willow, giving him short bangs.

When Belos possessed him, parts of Hunter's skin, left ear, and face became basil-green that spread to his arms, turning them into the ones of Belos' corrupted form while also gaining the blue eyes and antler-like horns of the latter. His hair also grew longer, which restored his forelock bang.

After being healed from Flapjack's sacrifice, Hunter received tissue scarring in the areas Belos corrupted and his eyes became brown.

In the epilogue to "Watching and Dreaming", Hunter's hair has grown out slightly further, and he no longer has bags under his eyes. Additionally, he has a red tattoo of a cardinal on his right arm where his coven sigil had previously been, to symbolize Flapjack.

Clothing[]

During his time in the Emperor's court, Hunter wore an ivory hooded cloak with a golden triangle clasp, like other members of the Emperor's Coven. Under the cloak was a golden-yellow tunic with darker sleeves and a dark brown belt, black leggings, dark brown gloves, and boots. He wore a golden pauldron on his left shoulder and a pointed two-faceted mask with a thin slot across it. Underneath his tunic, he had a gray shirt and golden chest armor with brown straps.

In "Eclipse Lake", he disguised himself in a standard Coven Scout uniform during his excursion to the Knee.

In "Any Sport in a Storm", Hunter disguises himself as a Hexside student, donning a Hexside school uniform consisting of a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and boots. His sleeves and leggings of his uniform are colored yellow to suggest he is affiliated with the potions track. Part of his Golden Guard tunic can be seen hidden underneath his uniform, seen notably at the collar. Hunter also wore red socks that resemble Flapjack.

While in hiding from the Emperor's Coven, Hunter donned his sports uniform again alongside a blue cloak with red patches, albeit the clothes had become tattered and dirty.

After joining the resistance, Hunter now wears a pale rose-colored undershirt covered by a collared light brown shirt bearing a cross-stitch in the center, as well as a brown belt bag. He keeps the same gloves, leggings, and boots from his Golden Guard uniform.

Over the course of his stay in the Human Realm, Hunter typically wore a variety of short-sleeved button-down shirts, khaki shorts, no show socks and white crocs. By late October, he would constantly wear a yellow sweater with a left breast pocket but alternated his pants, which would either be blue jeans with a blue patch and red patch on the right and left knees, respectively, or blue pajama pants with a watermelon pattern. He either used white or purple socks and for footwear, red sneakers and the crocs.

During the Haunted Hayride, Hunter dressed as "Chief O'Bailey" from Cosmic Frontier, with the costume costume consisting of a black and yellow long-sleeved shirt with a planet symbol on it, a utility belt, black pants with cuffs and yellow edges, white socks, black and dark yellow shoes, and a robotic eye attachment. However, after being possessed by Belos and returning to the Demon Realm, he discards the robotic eye and removes the shirt, tying it around his waist, revealing a custom-made black wolf t-shirt underneath it.

In the epilogue to "Watching and Dreaming", Hunter wears a dark blue collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up, gray pants, an orange apron, and red sneakers with yellow lighting patterns across them. The apron features two pockets, one smaller on the torso and one larger at the waist, along with multiple sewn-on patches; a purple patch with the abomination symbol, a light blue patch with the illusionist symbol, and a yellow patch with the logo of the Emerald Entrails.

Personality[]

At first, Hunter was shown to be selfish and thinks highly of himself. However, he shows that he isn't completely heartless, as he shows concern for Belos' condition and wants to help. He is also shown to be interested in wild magic, which is something that Belos is against.

While he still thinks highly of himself even after the events with Luz, he soon becomes more selfless after he meets Willow, risking himself to protect her and her Flyer Derby team.

He soon thinks over himself after he discovers Belos' lies and that he himself is a grimwalker, which leads to him having an emotional mental breakdown. He soon redeems himself after encountering Gus again in Hexside, saving him from Graye, and forming a bond between them. After spending time with Gus trying to escape an illusion, he becomes kinder and more approachable, saving Gus from his mind and telling everyone the truth about Belos.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Magic: Hunter can create magic using his staff and glyphs, as he as a Grimwalker cannot cast magic the way other witches do, however he inherited some of Flapjack's magic after his sacrifice and gains the latter's abilities, such as teleportation.
  • Telekinesis: He can teleport using his artificial staff or with Flapjack, but after Flapjack's sacrifice, he inherited some of Flapjack's magic and gained the latter's abilities, such as teleportation.

Trivia[]

  • He is the favorite character of the creator, Dana Terrace.
  • He is a fan of King's book, Ruler's Reach.
  • Darius and Hunter seem to have a family-like relationship if the epilogue is anything to go by
  • Some Speculate Hunter's full name is Hunter Deamonne, because it seems Darius might have adopted Hunter at the end, though this isn't confirmed.
  • At one point Zeno Robinson renamed their twitter to Hunter Noceda, though it only lasted briefly, it was supposed to represent Hunter and Luz's family relationship.
  • As Selkidomus scales are part of the recipe to make a grimwalker, it's speculated that said scales are what makes up Hunter's skin which is how he managed to burst out of the Boiling Sea unharmed in his first appearance as his skin would be heat resistant.
  • Hunter was originally name William in the pitch bible and was gone to be introduced early in the series.
