Large Nugget Hubei Turquoise Necklace with Silver Accents

This is a Turquoise Statement neckalce that is not for the weak of heart! It is made with large nuggets from Hubei Province of China. The turquoise ranges in color from a light shade of green to light blue to a beautiful dark blue. These Turquoise beads have a dark brown or black matrix with spider webbing. The neckalce measures 23 inches long with five pieces of Nugget Turquoise, thirty round beads of turquoise and ten sterling silver caps, two 4mm sterling silver beads and two 3mm sterling silver beads. The nugget beads range in size from 38mm to 51mm long with the round turquoise beads measuring 8mm to 9mm. It closes with a sterling silver magnetic clasp which is marked on the back "925"'. It has a weight of 251 grams.

The majority of the world's turquoise now comes from mines in China, due to the scarcity of American turquoise. Some industry experts expect the Chinese varieties to go up in price over the next decade, as it too becomes more rare. Most Hubei turquoise rough is stabilized for strength. This helps to prevent chipping and crumbling. Turquoise derives its name from Renaissance France, where Europeans were introduced to the stone via Turkey (though those stones were traded from Iran).
