My wife and I took a short weekend getaway, and made reservations based on their nicely presented webpage and the crowds we saw dining here. The good: my fish and chips (actually, I substituted in onion rings) and my wife's tempura shrimp were very good....The garden salads were fresh, although the gorgonzola dressing was less pungent than I hoped for. Also, I'd say the prices were very reasonable. The so-so: the herb focaccia was basically soft bread, nothing like focaccia. The bad: the fish chowder (which was both on the regular menu and listed as a special) tasted like nothing, just flour mixed in water and tasteless lumps of stuff thrown in. We mentioned this politely to our waiter when he inquired about our meal, then he simply asked us again at the end of our meal 'how was everything?' I guess feedback is not valued or even acknowledged. In any case, despite the positives, I'll look for someplace else to eat next time I'm in Northampton.More

Courteous service. The pan-fried ravioli was very tasteful. The fish (cod) and chips was good (very fresh fish). To my taste, I wold have seasoned the flour (I use mix of peppers, powdered garlic, paprica, etc). I would add cappers and diced mini cucumber pickles...to the sauce. The scallops were perfect. Simply perfect. More fresh impossible, not the usual jelly-soft mess we see in many restaurants and cooked yo the right point. Better than that only if they had been served with something better than the quinoa (I’m still in doubt if it was quinoa ou plain rice) - a Sicilian lemon risotto would be perfect. Rose wine was perfect.More

Had dinner here last weekend and we were glad we had made reservations as the place was packed! A friend and I both had wonderful vegetarian dinners, although I have loved their seafood selections on previous visits. The tempura is light and airy, the noodle...dishes are hearty and delicious. Brian was our server and he was attentive and knowledgeable. So grateful to have this excellent restaurant in our bustling little town!More

We got there just in time (noon) before a line formed at the door. They were very busy so the service was a little slow. I had the Tempura-style Shrimp appetizer with orange-ginger sauce, a garden salad, and the whole wheat roll. The breading on...the shrimp was very light and tasty, the shrimp were very fresh. The whole wheat roll, "Considered a favorite by many of our patrons for their balance of texture, flavor, and size." lived up to the description, but was just too big for me to finish. The salad was fresh and the dressing flavorful. For dessert I had Indian pudding which was a wonderful mix of the corn meal, molasses, and other ingredients. There was real whip cream on top. It was in a soup bowl so I couldn't finish it. Though it took a long time to order, everything went smoothly and efficiently after that. I am stingy in my ratings, but I would give the food at this restaurant 6 stars if I could.More

The place was hopping. We were seated in about 5 minutes with no reservation. Service was pleasant, but slow and a bit lackadaisical. (Several times we had to remind our waiter of things we'd ordered.) Lunch menu is not robust. Some of our food was...excellent (creamy garlic salad dressing, tempura shrimp & veggies, polenta croutons) other things were quite ordinary (vegetable pasta).More

We called 4 days ahead to try to make reservations. We were not allowed to make reservations, so we had a 40 minute wait to be seated. The restaurant was highly recommended by many licil people that we met. I ordered a tofu and vegetables...kabob. Our waitress told us that they had just sold the last one. I chose another tofu dish, as did my friend. My dish was supposed to be in a ginger sauce, but i couldn’t taste any ginger sauce. It was rather bland, I couldn’t taste any seasoning at all. No salt, nada. The vegetables were fresh and a little crunchy. The meal was served piping hot and looked pretty on the plate. The brown rice was bland and the tofu was bland. That night I had epigastric pain, as did my friend. We don’t know why. Next time we go there, I will try a non-tofu dish.More

Very friendly service. My wife had the roasted salmon and reports that it was superb. The udon noodle saute was very liberally joined by a nice group of cut vegetables but the noodles were flat (like a linguine) rather than the large round noodles that...are actually udon. A bit disappointing there. But both entrees were tasty and enjoyed our wine selections. Will certainly stop by again.More

Made a lunch reservation for 9 family members who haven't been together in awhile. Great experience all around. All 9 people loved their meals and none of us had anything bad to say about Paul & Elizabeth's. Service was excellent. I hadn't been there since...before the pandemic and everything was just as great as I remember. 5 stars.More

Healthy menu, good prices. Highly recommend. Split a wheat roll, for sure. I had a generous house salad with tofu for $10. Very filling. Good dressing. Split a $22 bottle of Rose, too.

From the ambiance to the meal everything about this restaurant is stellar. Finding parking can be a bit trying but worth the effort. Servers were friendly and accommodating. Ask for an upstairs inside balcony table as the views of the old stills and bar area...are spectacular.More

Haven't been in a few years and miss this restaurant. Great place for lunch. Everyone in our family only had positive things to say. Fresh food with a friendly staff. In an excellent location surrounded by other nice shops with plenty of parking.

We kept returning to P&E's despite their indifference to vegans and the fact that they deep-fry everything in the same oil as they cook their fish. By contrast, the excellent Sierra Grill has a completely separate fryer for vegetarian dishes. Tonight, however, the rice cakes...in their "vegetarian" platter absolutely reeked of fish, making them disgusting and unpalatable to this vegan diner. The management and wait staff have a history of responding to questions about this issue with arrogance and dismissive contempt, and I, after 25 years of wanting to support this local restaurant, will never eat there again. This is most definitely NOT a "great place for vegans."More

In general a very nice atmosphere and good food. One warning; do not eat the fried fish. I worked here years back and they use the fish that is "on the edge" for fried dishes.

We were trying to remember the last time we ate at Paul & Elizabeth's. I think we came up with 1980. In any event, we were back in Northampton or NoHo as we called it back then, and decided on a late dinner at Paul...& Elizabeth's. It was everything we remembered; atmosphere, food, menu, service -- all interesting and different. I had shrimp over whole wheat noodles and vegetables; my wife had scallops with brown rice. Plus, she had a fabulous seafood chowder. We'll be back in another 30.More

THIS PLACE IS NOT VEGAN!!! I frequented the restaurant for the last time as I joined two other vegans for a meal just after 6:30 PM Friday. In ordering dinner that evening, I was enlightened in the most offensive manner that they fry fish, tofu,...rice croquettes, and vegetables in the same fryolator, and therefore cross contaminate any food described as "vegetarian" with fish oil. Not only was I disappointed to realize this practice, I was also offended by the pedantic manner in which the server explained the practice. The server insisted that it had been my role as the self-defined vegan to have asked whether or not food was cooked in the same fryolator in taking the responsibility of making "informed consent". Regardless of my explanation that the three vegans at the table independently of each other have made the assumption that P&E's kept vegetarian dishes separate from fish oil, the server insisted that it is not the mission of the restaurant to be a vegetarian, organic or kosher establishment, and strongly implied that I had in fact been quite irresponsible in making such an assumption. The server went on to explain that patrons with fish allergies are informed of the practice of frying all food together, but since there is not a medical concern for vegans eating food cooked in fish oil, that information is not disclosed to the vegetarian and vegan community. I will never return!More
