Texas Republicans declare Biden's 2020 election win ILLEGITIMATE at state convention where they also penned a resolution calling homosexuality an 'abnormal lifestyle choice'

  • The Texas GOP voted to ratify a resolution that declared President Joe Biden 'was not legitimately elected'
  • Highlights from the convention saw a rebuking of Sen. John Cornyn for engaging in gun reform talks and voting in favor of the repealing of the Voting Rights Act
  • Donald Trump comfortably won the state of Texas during the 2020 presidential election by more than 600,000 votes
  • In addition to declaring homosexuality to be 'abnormal' the party also voted against 'all efforts to validate transgender identity'

Republicans in Texas formally rejected President Joe Biden's election in 2020 as illegitimate and voted in a state-wide convention that wrapped up this weekend on a party platform that calls homosexuality an 'abnormal lifestyle choice.'

The convention was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from Thursday until Saturday, and the vote to reject Biden's election win was a verbal one.

That resolution said: 'We believe that the 2020 election violated Article 1 and 2 of the US Constitution, that various secretaries of state illegally circumvented their state legislatures in conducting their elections in multiple ways, including by allowing ballots to be received after November 3 2020.'

The resolution went on to say that 'substantial election fraud' in cities helped Biden win.

It concluded: 'We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States.'

Republicans were also urged to show up en masse to vote in the November midterms to minimize the effect of any future election fraud.

The other notable moments at the convention saw the Texas Republicans publicly rebuke Senator John Cornyn for engaging in bipartisan gun control talks, voted in favor of repealing the Voting Rights Act and voted on a measure demanding that schoolchildren 'learn about the humanity of the preborn child.'

The party's embrace of unfounded electoral fraud allegations in a bedrock Republican state came as a bipartisan congressional committee seeks to definitively and publicly debunk the false idea that Biden did not win the election.

The platform will be sent to the state capital Austin to be certified officially by the state Republican party.

The convention was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Party spokesman James Wesolek said that it was unusual for votes of this nature to be rejected, reports the Texas Tribune.

Biden received 7 million more votes than rival Donald Trump. Biden also received 306 votes from the Electoral College, more than the 270 needed to win.

Speaking to KUT, delegates at the convention echoed the sentiments of the resolution.

Mary Jo Bloomqvist said: 'There's no way in hell Biden got 81 million votes. Are you kidding me?'

While Jessica Steels said that she saw the 'numbers change' and that she not longer trusts 'the voting system.' Steels added: 'I became a precinct chair two years ago when Donald Trump was running in 2020, which we all know he won.'

Texas was one of the many states that conducted an extensive audit of the 2020 presidential election but found few discrepancies.

Donald Trump comfortably won the state by more than 600,000 votes.

Among the events at the convention was a screening of the conspiracy theory movie '200 Mules.' The film claims to have revealed evidence of mass voter fraud.

The congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol is building a case that Trump's efforts to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election -- including by denying he lost -- amounted to conspiracy to illegally hold onto power.

In recent weeks, testimonies from members of former President Donald Trump inner circle admitted that they did not believe his claims of election fraud.

Trump, the 45th U.S. president, has denied any wrongdoing with regard to the January 6 riot.

Texas is a major player in U.S. national politics, with 38 electoral votes, the second highest after California. Voters there have backed Republican presidents for the past four decades.

The White House had no comment.

According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, about two-thirds of Republicans believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump.

State and federal judges dismissed more than 50 lawsuits brought by Trump and his allies challenging the election while reviews and audits found no evidence of widespread fraud.

One of the proposed principles in the latest Texas Republican party platform also includes new language criticizing homosexuality and voicing opposition to 'all efforts to validate transgender identity.'

'Homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice,' it reads, a statement that is not in the 2020 platform.

A week before the convention, President Joe Biden signed an executive order protecting members of the LGBTQ community from state laws that would prohibit them from health care access.

Votes on the provision are being tallied and certified following the bi-annual state party convention, a party spokesperson said.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston, an organization that represents LGBT conservatives, said it was once again denied a request to set up a booth at the party's convention this week, as it has been for past conventions.

The group called the Texas Republican Convention's actions 'not just narrow-minded, but politically short-sighted.'

However, the group is seeing 'no evidence' of other state Republican conventions adopting similar bans or exclusionary language, Charles Moran, Log Cabin Republican managing director, told Reuters.

'If anything we are being more included' than in the past, he said, noting that the 2020 Republican presidential campaign had an official pride coalition, and the gay Republican vote doubled between 2016 and 2020. 'President Trump was the most pro-gay Republican that we have ever had,' he added.

Acting chairman of the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas, Michael Cargill, told KXAN: 'These are just crazy people. It’s a small minority of people that are being un-Christian-like and spewing this hateful language.'

The station reported that one speaker at the convention attempted to get the party to temper its language on homosexuality.

That speaker said: 'We're the Republican Party of Texas. We're not the Westboro Baptist Church.' A reference to the Topeka, Kansas, based church that consistently stage anti-LGBTQ protests nationwide.

There have been renewed nationwide calls for gun law reform following the deaths of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Another highlight of the convention saw Texas Congressman and former Navy SEAL Rep. Dan Crenshaw accosted by a group of party activists. Crenshaw was called 'Eyepatch McCain,' a reference to the late Republican Senator John McCain who famously did not always vote along party lines.

The phrase was first coined by Fox News Tucker Carlson.
