With only a few short weeks until Resident Evil Village releases, there are still some big questions remaining. One of the most surprising events revealed in trailers and other footage ostensibly shows Chris Redfield shooting Mia Winters in her home at the beginning of the game. This has led to a lot of speculation regarding why Chris might shoot Mia, and there are a lot of possibilities.

While a lot of the attention has gone to Lady Dimitrescu, the adored tall lady in Resident Evil Village, a lot of fans are still pondering Chris' actions from the first trailer. Since then, not much has been explained about Chris shooting Mia, and it's unlikely fans will get a true answer before the game's release date. Still, this hasn't stopped many people from wondering what could've lead Chris down this path in the first place, especially considering he helped save Mia in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

It's unlikely Chris Redfield has simply just turned evil for evil's sake. More than likely, there's a classic Resident Evil plot twist involved in some way. And since Village is a direct sequel to Biohazard, there's a good chance the reasoning behind Chris shooting Mia comes from RE7's events involving the Molded and The Connections. Since Mia worked for The Connections, and since Chris works for Blue Umbrella, it's possible there's some motive for shooting her tied to these organizations. However, there are a lot of other possibilities too.

Resident Evil 8: Possible Reasons Chris Shoots Mia

The inciting incident for Resident Evil Village seems to be Chris Redfield shooting Mia and taking her and Ethan's baby, Rose, to the titular village. What's not known, however, is the true motive behind Chris' shocking actions. One of the more obvious answers here is that this isn't the real Chris - or that it's not the real Mia. It's also possible this entire act is a ruse to get Mia into hiding - perhaps from Mother Miranda, Lady Dimitrescu, or another RE8 antagonist - or to get Ethan into the village.

Another possibility is that Chris has become a thrall for Mother Miranda and her cult, and is working for them against his own freewill. Whatever the reasoning, Ethan and Mia's baby is most likely the key here, since she's taken away. Whatever the true reasons is behind Chris' actions, it's likely that fans won't know the real answer until Resident Evil Village releases next month.
