Movies Anywhere (for supported titles) is your friend.

Not available in all countries.

This is the correct answer, right from MS https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/moviesanywhere

No, that is a US only service

Unable to register. Please try again or contact Movies Anywhere Customer Service.

Umm ok then

Not for all movies though. It makes very little sense that they don’t have an app for IOS.

Unless recently changed, does not work for tv shows purchased

Doesn't even work for all movies. Some are listed, some aren't for me. No TV shows listed.

Microsoft should make purchased content viewable on the mobile Xbox app. 😕

I 1000% agree with this. Why can I stream games on cloud to my phone, but not my movies & TV shows that I've purchased on Xbox/Microsoft Store?

I use Movies Anywhere religiously & purchase across a smattering of services, but this only works for those retailers that participate in the program. So, not all my anime, TV shows, & movies are available to watch on my Vudu, Prime, Microsoft, Apple, & Google apps on my phone, Xbox, or computer.

Side note, I mainly purchase on Vudu, but scour the web for deals at least once every week or so. I check Movies Anywhere for cross buy availability & typically won't buy if it isn't available. Wanted to buy Samurai Champloo for $5 on Microsoft, but know I can only watch on there & not even on my Galaxy S23 🤦‍♂️ still gonna buy it because that's a hellofa deal, but sad I can't watch on my phone.

It has the same issues as all the other platforms but YouTube is my favorite way of watching movies. I can watch it anywhere and access it from work if needed. Not all, but most movies purchased on my Xbox show up there when I link them via movies anywhere.

My movies won't even play on the app anymore they keep stuttering I'm on the UK

I've gone through all the resets I can think of and still not playing

Yeah that's weird, I'm not experiencing that on my end. You might want to check your Internet connection with your phones hotspot.

Ya I bought a few movies and shows on there when there were really good sales but I don't think I'll ever do that again since the content is locked to xbox or pc with no indication that they'll make the movie/tv app available anywhere else.

Edit: why the downvotes? MoviesAnywhere is not a solution if it's only available in the US and the movies and TV app is only on available on Windows and Xbox. What's wrong with what I said? Haha

All you need to do is connect your Microsoft account to this site and download the app on anything. https://moviesanywhere.com/

Microsofts FAQ tells you to do this edit: proof https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/moviesanywhere

The issue is that not all movies are attached to movies anywhere. I think paramount, mgm, lions gate do not support it now. So if I purchased James Bond on the Xbox to watch, I can’t use movies anywhere to stream it on my phone

Pretty sure this isn't available in Canada.

You're a tool and maybe you should do better research. Movies anywhere is only available to us residents. Therefore it's a useless solution.

This is a microsoft subreddit.

That being said if you want device neutral movie/tv streaming the truth is your best options are Amazon and Google Play. (Maybe Vudu as well)

I've never tried to stream anything from Apple on a windows or android device, but most devices have an amazon app and Google play's streaming also works via youtube.

Movies Anywhere is great, but I'm sure non-US residents don't get that option.

Xbox users might disagree with me, but my opinion is based entirely on whether or not I can stream it from any device, and whether or not it works in browser as a backup.

Both Microsoft and Apple lack in browser fallbacks, so I put them lower tier.

Amazon is definitely the best place to buy movies and shows right now. Especially if you're gonna watch it in HD on your computer, since Google/YouTube doesn't let you watch movies or shows in HD on the browser like Chrome, Brave, and FireFox. Also on Amazon if you have a movie or a show that you don't want any more, Amazon give you the option to hide it from your library or just permenent delete it from your library. Unlike Google/YouTube where you don't get that option

Have this problem too. Now I always look for the "Movies Anywhere compatible" of it doesnt have it I dont buy it. I'll look for it on Vudu instead. Since Vudu has an app on all devices.

Except for, you know, the most popular mobile OS on the planet, Android.

Please point me in the direction of the Android app for mobile devices. The only official one I'm aware of is meant for Android TV devices.

Even though I don't really watch content on such a small screen, I do understand wanting to do so as an option.

It's frustrating that they don't offer a complete solution ever since their last mobile OS fizzled out. Everything is piecemeal and you're lucky if they put some of their mobile-only offerings on the Microsoft Store, or some of their Windows offerings on the competitors' mobile app stores.

There is no fun or easy way to stream your Microsoft purchases on Android or your phone. I wirelessly connect my TV with my Windows 10 PC and stream shows that way.

The streaming to TV is only as good as your internet and wireless capabilities, so it is just a band aid solution.
