💡EDF Energy Standard Tariff

EDF Energy may not be able to offer the standard tariff to new customers, if you are an existing EDF Energy customers you will be switched to this tariff at the end of their fixed contract unless you choose a new fixed rate deal.

If you haven't switched energy tariffs in the past one to two years, you're most likely on the supplier's standard variable tariff. Even though this tariff is not the most expensive, it's not always the cheapest. This EDF Energy tariff does not include an exit fee, so you are free to change to a better deal, whether with EDF or another energy provider without having to pay a exit fee.

📈EDF Price Changes in the News

EDF Energy increased the price of its standard variable tariff in October 2021. This happened in accordance with the latest increase in the energy price cap, which rose from £1,138 to £1,277 on 1 October 2021. It's also likely to go up again in April 2022, so if you think you're on EDF's variable tariff you should consider comparing your tariff to make sure you don't see an increase.

EDF Economy 7 Prices

EDF Economy 7 tariffs are available for customers with Economy 7 meters. These tariffs provide cheaper electricity for seven hours at night in exchange for more expensive rates during the day. Payment methods include direct debit, cash, cheque and prepayment.

Typically, EDF Economy 7 tariffs are only used by customers with storage heaters. Since this type of heating system collects energy during the night, customers with storage heaters can save money on their electricity bills by taking advantage of the cheaper night-time rate. You'll need to regularly be able to schedule a significant proportion of your total electricity consumption during this off-peak time in order to actually benefit from the cheaper price.

EDF Economy 7 times vary across the country. The seven-hour period of cheaper electricity generally takes place from midnight to 7 a.m. in the winter months and 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. during the summer months. Note that these hours may vary depending on your location.

🚗EDF Electric Vehicle Tariff

To switch to EDF Energy tariffs for electric cars, you must either own or lease an electric vehicle. To register for an EV tariff with two rates, you must a have smart meter that is compatible with EDF Energy. This would include all second-generation smart meters, as well as any first-generation smart meters that were installed by EDF Energy.

There are three electric vehicle EDF tariffs to choose from which gives you plenty of choice to find an EDF tariff that fits your lifestyle.

GoElectric

This EDF tariff for electric vehicle owners is a single-rate tariff, so your electricity rate is the same day and night. It's also the only EDF tariff for electric vehicle owners that doesn't require a smart meter. Here's a summary for the GoElectric EDF tariff:

GoElectric 35

This EDF tariff for electric vehicle owners gives 5 hours of cheaper electricity between 12am-5am each night, so you can charge your electric at a cheaper rate. GoElectric 98

The GoElectric 98 EDF tariff is so called as it offers 98 hours of cheaper electricity per week for electric vehicle owners, this means a cheaper rate from 9pm to 7am during the week. You will need a smart meter to be eligible for this tariff. Here's a summary for the GoElectric 98 EDF tariff:

New customers can only switch to a prepayment EDF tariff by contacting EDF by telephone. Unlike other EDF tariffs, online switching is not currently available due to the energy crisis and a personlised assessment is required for the prepayment EDF tariff for new customers.

EDF Standard Prepayment Tariff

If you have a prepayment meter and haven't switched EDF tariffs in the past 18 months, you're most likely on the standard EDF prepayment tariff and paying at the rate of the energy price cap. This tariff's rates are variable, meaning they fluctuate along with the wholesale price of energy.

🏢EDF Business Tariffs

EDF Energy tariffs for business vary from its domestic offerings quite a bit. Businesses do not have the right to the 14-day cooling-off period that domestic customers have during the switch process. This means business owners cannot change their minds and cancel their energy plan after agreeing to a new contract. Another difference is that EDF tariffs for businesses tend to be for longer periods of time than domestic energy plans.

EDF Energy offers nine different tariffs for small business customers. These include one variable tariff and eight fixed-rate options. Fixed-rate tariffs range from one to four years. The cheapest tariff is the one-year fixed plan. However, you do run the risk of having to contract more expensive rates in the future if energy prices increase.

EDF Energy also provides fixed-rate energy tariffs for large businesses and corporations. The supplier also offers completely customized Performance Contracts for businesses spending over £1 million a year on energy.
