WELCOME TO HOTEL ALFONSO XIII Even before its birth the Hotel Alfonso XIII was destined for great things. Designed by architect José Espiau Munoz as a residence for international dignitaries visiting the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929, the Alfonso XIII’s ambition was simple: to become the grandest hotel in Europe. Twelve years of building work - and an investment of four million pesetas, or 10% of the Exhibition’s total budget - were required to achieve the Alfonso’s peerless degree of luxury and magnificence. Characterized by its elaborate decoration in the Andalusian. Regionalist style fashionable in the early years of the 20th century, the hotel was finally opened on 28th April 1928 - in good time for the Expo - by its namesake, Spanish king Alfonso XIII. The hotel is situated on land that once belonged to the San Telmo Palace and became public property after the Duchess of Montpensier donated the palace and its gardens to the city. The Alfonso XIII quickly became one of Seville’s best-loved buildings and an integral part of the city’s social life.

Of course we love this hotel, we got married here in 2015 and since then go back for Christmas or summer sometimes on our own or with family. Unfortunately I’ve to highlight some faults.

It goes without saying that breakfast is lavish, the hotel interior moorish and grand and the bed extremely comfy.

The negatives, the patio charged us twice for the same meal, the first time saying it didn’t go through on the card (was sorted out the following day but delayed check out by about 30 minutes). As we got married in the hotel there has always been either an upgrade, flowers in the room or cava. But this time nothing. In all our rooms at Christmas for the last 3 yrs local Christmas biscuits made by the nuns and wine was left in the room on turn down service Christmas Eve together with a Christmas card. Not this year. Again like last year on Christmas Eve Ena was closed and that’s part of the hotel which limits choice.

Turn down service was poor. It was done very late in the evening. One night after 10pm so we were back in the room. The lady just handed us water when we opened the door - what about fresh towels or more shower gel for showers after the gym. Just not good enough!

Service around the hotel is very much a hit and a miss. The seem understaffed.

We were a bit nervous with this trip being the first after 4 months of lockdown in the UK. We were concerned the Hotel may be running on reduced staff and perhaps with cuts in service and facilities.
From the moment we arrived and greeted by Irene and Hans Herrera (the ever cheerful and attentive concierge/bellman).
Check in was efficient and fun, and Mr Herrera took us to room 303 which had the most amazing view of the Cathedral from a Terrace that was paradise. It was large enough for a party and the room was grand and traditional with a lovely bathroom and walk in wardrobe.
We had breakfast included as a Titanium member and although the buffet was not help yourself due to COVID precautions the Hotel had clearly thought ahead and the restaurant managed very well. I think if it was busier it may have been a bit frustrating but we never had to wait and the service was personal and the staff kind. Everyone is obviously getting used the new normal and we thought they did a wonderful job.
The pool area was a delightful oasis and we enjoyed relaxing after sightseeing in 40C heat. All the sights were walkable from the hotel and the area is very pretty.
Mr Herrera should be especially commended for his consistent positivity and he really made us feel welcome, he greeted us every time we entered the Hotel and to be honest he really helped make our trip special. Please thank him for us. To be honest though everyone we spoke to was a delight and we would love to come back soon. In fact some friends are already booking a trip based on our recommendations!
We had a dinner at the hotel at San Fernando, food and service again excellent, with the Tapenade a real winner!
As for COVID it was clear staff had undergone training especially based on the situation and we were reminded Masks were not optional in Seville. We saw cleaners sterilising sunbeds after use, and special cleaning clearly was taking place regularly.

This is indeed a beautiful hotel, set bang in the middle of gorgeous Sevilla . The rooms are gorgeous, and the staff is friendly, it could've been perfect except for a few details. For example there is no welcome note, nothing to make you feel that you are special, even if you have just spent nearly €300 per night on a room! Our main problem was just trying to get hold of people, for ordering room service for example, or even getting the concierge to answer you, it does take a very long time! I realize we were there over Christmas which is a very busy time for everybody. We were lucky to have a room with a terrace, and the view was stunning. The bedroom is very comfortable, and everything is of course very clean. I guess I would say it's just missing a tiny bit of warmth and welcome , a personal touch that doesn't make you feel like you're just another client. Perhaps it is better to go there at a less busy time!

We booked 2 suites at this hotel. My husband and I have been to Seville 3 times before and walked past this hotel several times. This time we booked it. Unfortunately I broke my ankle 2 weeks prior to our visit. The hotel changed our room to the ground floor to make it easier for me and delivered a chair I could use in the large non-slip shower. They accommodated us all the time, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so great. The food and service were everything I hoped - impeccable. The breakfast is food heaven - what choices you have. The buffet breakfast is a must. We will return without a doubt.

Dear all, While the interiors, pillows and quality of coffee is really important for a 5 star hotel, such things as unprofessional, racist and not family friendly personal seems more important. We tried to book the hotel for Ny 2020 night, but it was fully booked, so we have decided to go for breakfast there on the 1st of January and maybe stay there next time as we heard a lot of pleasant things about it. We called a concierge service and asked, whether it is possible to go for breakfast there if we are not the hotel guests. The answer was that restaurant is public, so please welcome. So, on Jan 1 in the morning we come to the hotel, which has really nice interiors but suddenly the waiters refused to give us a table. We kindly asked to talk to manager. The restaurant was empty, maybe 5 of 50 tables were busy, but the manager said that the restaurant will be fulled in just 5 min and they cannot provide us the breakfast service. Surprise! Then she said that as we are not guest that is a reason. We mentioned that we have called to reception before come here and now after we spend 20 min in the early morning with two young kids to come here, it is not appropriate. She refused. We didn’t have much choice as everything is closed on Jan 1 in the morning. Coming back to our hotel will also take some time so we had a chance not to have breakfast at all. Kids were really hungry and a little one started to cry, so we asked to invite a manager, who is a real boss, not waiters, as we didn’t have much choice. The manager called to her probably boss and was not very polite talking about situation, she was mentioned the nationality as well. Maybe she didn’t like us wearing sport shoes, or she didn’t like the kid crying...A nice man come and tried to explain that the concierge was mistaken and it is only for hotel guests. We thought that maybe really we didn’t understand correctly...but there was no sigh “for hotel guests only”, like on some stairs. He suggested to service us in the lounge area and we agreed. But after 20 min having the menu no one come. So I called to concierge once again and put a call on record, asking the same questions, is it allowed to have breakfast in the restaurant if we are not guests. And again I was insured, that this is public, it is allowed and we can come, please be our guests and welcome..:/
That was the first time I have ever had a problem in a hotel restaurant to have breakfast. In Cannes, in Marbella, in London it was never a problem. Even if you are not the guest, you can pay fans have a breakfast.
Then we leaved the place, pretending to be 5 star hotel and had a great breakfast in the Santa Maria playa with smoothies, healthy and vegan food. I think that in 21 century the reputation and personal behavior in a non-standard situation should be different, especially in a multi-cultural counties.

As a result of the provincial perimetral restriction due to the pandemic, we decided it would worth a go, so we took the chance to try a fabulous hotel everybody living in Seville is aquainted with, from the outside at least... The experience had to be a short one (the package deal being appealing but still the tag price is somewhat intimidating) so we spent just one night and tried to make the most of it. And we did it!
Admiring the building itself (halls, vast landings, interior patio, stairs, vintage elevator, exposed brick architecture) pays off the majority of the little investment. But also the service and staff in general performs extremely well. We had some qualms, followinga bunch of opinions, that we might experience the unpleasant feeling of being out of our class but there was nothing of the sort during our short stay. The staff was truly commited and performed their duties with kindness and professionalism. We did our part too.
Dinner (fixed menu, included in the deal) was good too. Breakfast (à la carte) was superb: delicious eggs benedict.
Room was beautiful (although still on the lower range of quality room this hotel has to offer, with prices rocketing easily if you let your fancy unrestrained) and somewhat luxurious. Nice view of the Puerta de Jerez. Location is unbeatable: some people were making their entrance stepping out of a Bentley, we came directly from the metro ;)
Swimming pool was most enjoyable; fitness room crammed with top notch exercising machinery. You might want to exercise outside, facing the pool.

To cut a long story short: we've been sweetly pampered but not spoiled.
We're believers now and just looking for the next available opportunity to give it another go. If you're a local who hasn't tried yet, you should consider it

We spent 5 nights here in April 2022. I could find absolutely nothing not to love about this hotel. The location was exceptional. We were very close to the Real Alcazar and Seville Cathedral. We took the train to Cordoba one day, and in good weather without luggage, it was a pretty easy walk to the train station, I think about 1.2 km. There were plenty of great food options nearby. We only took a cab to go out to Italica one day (and we had the hotel send a cab out to pick us up).

Service was very good. Twice a day housekeeping service, the concierge was very helpful as well as all staff around the front door. We had breakfast in the hotel a couple of days. The breakfast buffet is pricey—you are paying for the broad selection, there is no way we could eat enough to be worthwhile—but they had really about anything you could possibly want for breakfast, including a huge variety of fruit and pastries, as well as cheese, eggs, ham, etc.

The lobby to the hotel was just beautiful. A lot of tile, and arches—very mudejar in style. The elevator doors were even interesting. There was an outer door, which looked and opened just like a regular door; once opened, the elevator door itself open. On some floors you would get a green light if the elevator was there and ready to board. On others (the ground floor as I recall), you just had to wait until the numbers indicated it was on your floor. Corridors were wide and open.

Our room was beautiful. We were in Room 320, which was the back left corner. We overlooked the university. There was plenty of closet space, and a safe that you set the code for. We had both a tub and a shower, and a great sitting area with a comfortable chair and large loveseat. There were two sinks, a makeup mirror and adequate counter space, as well as a separate toilet room.

I really can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

My Family and I stayed here for 12 nights in July during the pandemic. What can I say? the staff are extremely helpful and courteous. As a wheelchair user I contacted the hotel and liaised with Eva regarding the best room option. The room provided was exceptional with no steps a walk in shower and shower stool it was perfect.

The location of the hotel is enviable and an ideal location to explore with ease.

My only slight negatives are the cost of breakfast seemed excessive and the wheelchair access arrangements in the evening. The side door is locked and as such my father had to go into the hotel and ask for someone to open it- had I been on my own this would be impossible.

All in all I had a great stay and would no doubt return in the future.

This hotel could be incredible, but it’s not . This is a beautiful land mark building in a fantastic central location in Seville. But there’s no soul in this place, staff are polite and efficient but it’s all very corporate you feel like budget achievement is the main concern of the management. Rooms are stately in size and clean, but they have put in new windows that open only slightly……one presumes that Marriott are worried about people jumping out ! Food is fresh but only passable, and service in the patio restaurant was lacklustre to say the least . Common areas need a design upgrade and new furniture as non of it creates any atmosphere at all . The American Bar, needs a re design, furniture looks like a mish mash of old furniture they had in storage somewhere and staff are ok, but not exactly welcoming . We had booked 4 nights and checked out after one………..this hotel needs a dynamic manager and to spend some money on a top interior designer to bring back atmosphere and style to this incredible building .

Having traveled extensively throughout Europe, staying at many historic and luxurious hotels, the Hotel Alfonso XIII is by far the best hotel in Seville if not in all of Spain. Located on the main avenue in Seville, everything is within walking distance. The hotel is a turn back to a time when luxury and first-class service was the norm and not the unusual. The minute you arrive at the front steps, you are greeted by friendly staff who are always there for you throughout your stay. Our room was decorated elegantly and had modern amenities and services. Every morning, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet that had so much food and there definitely was something for everyone. In the afternoons, we sat at Ena Terrace for coffee and tapas watching people go by as the sun set. One of the unexpected surprises was the American Bar. It was a great place to have a cocktail and a light snack. We were surprised to see many locals and a few celebrities (US and European) in the bar during our stay. Room service was another surprise, the food arrived piping hot, and the portions were humongous. Our room was kept spotless by a staff that always smiled and greeted you each morning and evening. The staff is top-notch, the level of attention to our every need made our stay amazing. There is nothing better than returning from a trip and having only good memories of your accommodations. For us, the Alfonso XIII delivered a perfect vacation. It's a true sample of five-star hospitality.
