Mission Statement
The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, an integral part of a great
University, is committed to the creation and dissemination of knowledge for
the benefit of all people.
We are the School of Medicine - the nation's first - and the Hospital of
the University of Pennsylvania - the nation's first hospital built by a
medical school. Our heritage is the cornerstone for our future and the
legacy which supports our pursuit of the highest standards in education,
research, and patient care.
We are students and teachers, scientists and scholars, physicians and other
health care professionals, administrators, and staff dedicated to:
- Developing leaders in medicine and science;
- Expanding the frontiers of medicine through new discoveries in the
health sciences and in the understanding, detection, treatment, and prevention of human disease; and
- Caring for our patients with respect and compassion in a setting where
patients benefit from the application of the latest medical and scientific advances, delivered with skill, integrity, and constant concern for their comfort and well-being.
We are a Philadelphia institution and a national resource, proud of our
accomplishments and dedicated to continued leadership in responsibly serving
the people of our region, our commonwealth, our nation, and our world.
