Al Roker is going to be a grandfather ... and he might've accidentally revealed the gender.
The Today show meteorologist celebrated the big news during Wednesday's taping, sharing that his daughter Courtney and her husband Wesley Laga will be welcoming a baby later this summer. While he disclosed that he's known about the pregnancy "for a while," he decided to discuss it on the air after his daughter posted an announcement the day before on Instagram. (He shares Courtney with ex-wife Alice Bell.)
But as it turns out, amid the excitement, he used a telling pronoun that tipped off his fellow co-hosts. "For this grandchild, I'm going to be the best grandpa ever because I'm going to do whatever I can to spoil this kid and then hand her back," he said at the 40 second mark in the video below.
"Wait, you're saying 'her,'" Dylan replied. With that, Al seemingly lost his words and started shuffling his papers around nervously. "Or it could be a him," Craig Melvin chimed in. "It could be," Al said quickly.
Possible spoilers aside, his excitement about becoming a grandfather didn't stop there. Shortly after wrapping filming for the day, he uploaded a sweet video to Instagram to celebrate Courtney and Wes' newest addition to the Roker family.
"Could not be happier for these two," he captioned the clip on March 15. "Now begins the revenge of the Dad. Spoiling this kid rotten then handing the baby back. Hahahhahahahaha."
With the news coming just a few months after Al was absent from the Today show due to health issues, fans couldn't be more thrilled for his entire family. They immediately sent heartwarming messages on social media.
"Congratulations Al and family!! Being a grandparent is a feeling you can’t describe but in a few short months you will feel all the feels!! 🥰🥰," one person wrote on Instagram. "This boo boo will have the best seat at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, [forever]," another agreed. "Congrats Pop-Pop ❤️ You think you can’t love anyone more that your kids & then you have a grandchild [and] your heart bursts with love! Can’t wait to see that ear to ear smile ❤️❤️❤️," a different user added.
