Writing narrative hooks that engage the reader is a great writing skill. PowerPoint lesson focuses on writing hooks using three strategies to lead into a story and hook the reader, with student and professional examples. Three different writing strategies to engage the reader, grab their attention, and create great beginnings for a narrative account or expository essay, and will help students overcome writer's block, especially when preparing for state writing tests. Includes a slide with several other strategies for narrative hooks students can try as well, and a writing practice assignment to put the strategies learned to good use, and a slide for reflection on how the writing hooks worked. For use in a standards-based writing program which supports Common Core State Standards.
Did you know that you can use PowerPoints like this in video conferencing or Zoom for distance learning? You can also share with your students in OneDrive, too. Just make sure to tell them to view in Slideshow mode. If you don’t want them to have the answer key, remove it first. ;) You can also upload to Google Slides, and it will automatically convert. There may be some things like fonts or animations that are not compatible, but it is editable and usually easy to make adjustments.
