First introduced for the 1973 model year, the Honda Civic is one of the all-time best-selling cars in the world and is the primary reason Honda is known for producing very reliable cars with great fuel economy. Initially available only as a two-door coupe, the Civic has become larger with more safety features catering to families while showing its sporty side in models such as the Civic SI, Civic Sport and CR-X/CR-X del Sol. Other popular trims include the Civic EX, Civic EX-L, Civic LX, and Civic Type R. The current Civic is a compact, stylish sedan and hatchback that packages safety, high quality, decent handling, and loads of features all at an affordable price. Eleven generations and counting, the only low point in the Civic’s history is the short-lived ninth generation, which only covered model years from 2012 to 2015, due to heavy criticism of its design and materials. In 2016 our editors ranked the Honda Civic 3rd on our list of "must test drive" cars for that year. Living up to its reliable reputation, it is not unusual to see a used Honda Civic reach 150,000 miles or more. The Civic has won almost every conceivable award in its category, including the North American Car of the Year for 2022 and we've named it to numerous "best" lists within it's category.
