In one of the last graded turf events of the year in Kentucky, the $300,000 River City Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs, Rockemperor and Cellist have a chance to end the autumn season on a high note before winter racing begins.
Pioneering Spirit faces seven rivals in the Oct. 20 Knickerbocker Stakes (G3T) during Belmont at the Big A meet, but his greatest adversary could be Mother Nature.
An all-American field of 11 is entered for the Aug. 12 renewal of the Arlington Million (G1T) at its third home in as many years, Colonial Downs in Virginia.
Trainer Chad Brown was not going to concern himself with the last two races run by Rockemperor. A pair of fifth place finishes in a pair of graded stakes races to start the 6-year-old's season didn't matter.
The grass has always been greener outside the barn of trainer Chad Brown. Or, at least it seems that way. The grass on the turf courses at Saratoga Race Course have certainly been a shade of Brown. As in Chad, of course.
