Since we had been on many brewery tours before, we thought it was more important to learn about this historic site. We had an excellent guide, who had an outstanding command of the facts and who made the tour extremely interesting. We loved the story about how for 10 minutes after the bell would ring, the workers would drink as much beer as they could hold! We even saw two wallabies (which we learned from our guide are a variety called pademelons) while touring the gardens. They were as adorable as their name!Written April 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

It is very well organised for the number of passengers using it. Perhaps the music was a bit loud on the trip but that is my only comment.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Barbara AAdelaide, Australia259 contributionsIncredible! It’s quite a small museum but full of fantastic information. Thank you to the volunteers who are full of knowledge regarding Mawson’s Antartica expeditions. A fantastic display and lots to read and short film clips.

Finally visiting a home that includes original furnishings you really do feel the history literally. Located so close to Hobart cbd it’s an experience you must have. Our tour guide Chris was outstanding with her knowledge of the home and its past, the furniture stories along with little things we would never have picked up on if walking through on our own. Her passion was obvious and her enthusiasm and love for the property made our time even more memorable.Written April 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mark HKariong, Australia185 contributionsI do not know what to say. We did a 1 hour guided tour - Mark was our guide and we had a group of around 20 people. The tour and his commentary was exceedingly moving. How they have marked on the ground with pavers and gravel the rooms etc. is haunting.
Incredibly moving is the wall with the names of mothers who gave birth, names and ages of the children many of whom died very young.
I can't say more than this was incredibly moving and well worth it.Written January 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was just about the right mix of art and museum in a very beautiful old historic building. The cafe is also a great plus for weary tourists. There was a fantastic exhibition on of Lloyd Rees from his early to late works. Such a beautiful talented artist. We were very fortunate to see it s we didn't know it was on. Our grandchildren also learned a lot about the history of Tasmania and were very interested making connections as we toured around. It is really well curated for both adults and children. Top marks!Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- HighlanderGuyMNSaint Paul, MN23 contributionsThis trip was booked along with the Red Decker Bus 48-hour pass. Easy to locate the bus on day of departure per map provided on website. There's always a risk of weather issues at the top but the driver kept us informed. At the first stop to look out, Ed, our excellent driver/guide could see that the summit was clear & we would proceed. Had this not been the case the GROUP would have decided how to proceed. You simply MUST prepare for cold, wet & VERY windy conditions, so dress accordingly!!! Bring water & maybe snacks. WiFi on the bus was terrific; watch your progress up the mountain on Google maps! Get a window seat especially if subject to motion sickness on a very narrow winding road. This was a highlight of my stay in Hobart -- a MUST DO!Written April 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Trish YHobart, Australia4 contributionsA wonderful way to spend 2 hours discovering the secrets to the many varied flavours of gin. - Rotiman1Sydney, Australia1,625 contributionsWe were staying at Battery Point and enjoyed the sculpture trail. It was a pleasant walk that provided an insight into the history of the area. Two great pieces of trivia were sculptures 313 - number of boats launched in the 1800s from Battery Point shipyards and 1909 - the year Errol Flynn birth at Sandy Bay. A further benefit was the option to stop for a coffee in Battery Point and a drink at Salamanca.Written April 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
