Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and a Culture in Crisis is the 2016 New York Times best-selling memoir by J.D. Vance. It describes the hillbilly values and culture that Vance learned from his grandparents while growing up in the Appalachian area of Ohio. Vance examines the problems that working-class white people face while simultaneously telling the story of his own journey from a humble upbringing to the Ivy League. A movie adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy directed by Ron Howard was released 2020.
