This week

North Gate for outbound traffic
Starting Monday, Dec. 14, the North Gate will be the only outbound option from 6:30 to 8 a.m.  Security Forces will resume normal traffic operations shortly thereafter.  The process will continue through Dec. 17.  Please plan accordingly for ease in accessing and exiting the base.

Schriever Housing Family Christian Fellowship 
The Schriever Housing Family Christian Fellowship consists of worship, Bible study and prayer 6:30-8 p.m. every Wednesday at Tierra Vista Community Center. In December, there is an ammended meeting schedule; the fellowship will meet to study the "True Story of Christmas" today. You don't want to miss it. Bring the family. Those interested may email the chapel or call 567-3705.

Military Retirees Activities Office holds luncheon 
The Military Retiree Activities Office holds a luncheon at noon the second Thursday of each month, at the Peterson Air Force Base club, followed by its monthly council meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Building 350, Room 1206. The guest speaker for Thursday is Kathy Baptiste-Jones who is the Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense liaison at Fort Carson. For more information, call 556-7153.

Angel Tree gift collection reminder 
The 50th Space Wing Chaplain office reminds angel tree gift volunteers to turn in their gifts for their assigned children by Friday. Gifts will be collected in the Chaplain's office, located in Building 300, Room 149. If you have any questions, call 567-3705.

Evening of Christmas caroling 
Join the Schriever Housing Family Christian Fellowship for cookies, hot cocoa and an evening of Christmas Caroling next Wednesday. Meet us at the Tierra Vista Community Center from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Bring the family. For more information, email the chapel or call 567-3705.

Schriever Chapel Christmas eve candle light service 
Please join us for a special Christmas eve candle light service.  We will be offering an inspiring Christmas worship and sermon, children's story time around the fireplace, snacks and a candle lighting ceremony.  Bring the whole family at 5 p.m. Dec. 24 to Tierra Vista to join in the festivities. Finance office closure
The finance customer service office will be open today until 3 p.m. and will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a commander's call.

Updated clinic hours, closures
Normal clinic hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The clinic closes at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays for unit physical training.
The clinic closes at 11 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month for training.

Children of Valor Wrestling Club sign ups
The Children of Valor would like to invite all Schriever dependents (military and civilian) to join our team. We are a USA wrestling chartered club and part of the Pike's Peak Wrestling League. We accept boys and girls, ages 4-15. Practice times are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Tierra Vista Housing multi-purpose room, at 300 Hartinger Circle here on Schriever Air Force Base. Ellicott hosts Parade of Lights 
Join in the holiday festivities at the 15th annual Parade of Lights beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday in Ellicott. Cheer on Sparky the Firedog as he accompanies a 50th Space Wing fire engine and the Opinicus float along the parade route. Afterward, enjoy hot chocolate and a visit with Sparky and Santa inside the community center (sponsored by Hi-Plains Sertoma). It will be family fun for all.

TVC holds craft fair 
Join Tierra Vista Communities and Santa Claus for a craft fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the TVC Community Center. Enjoy refreshments, while getting some Christmas shopping done, doing a craft and sharing your Christmas list with Santa. Parents, bring your camera to take pictures. Commander, first sergeant indoctrination workshop
The 310th Space Wing is hosting a commander and first sergeant indoctrination workshop 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Jan. 11, in the Building 300 auditorium.  50th Space Wing commanders and first sergeants are also invited to attend.  Agencies will provide key information required of commanders and first sergeants in order to accomplish their missions.  For more information, email Master Sgt. Society opens door to military widows  
The Society of Military Widows is open to widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouse's rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows will meet at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Peterson Air Force Base club for the Christmas luncheon. Annual awards ceremony emcee, national anthem auditions 
Do you like to talk? Do you like to sing? The 2015 Annual Awards Committee is seeking speakers and singers to audition for the annual awards ceremony.  This request is open to officers and enlisted of all ranks. Auditions will take place 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Building 300 auditorium. For more information, email Tech. Sgt. Katrena Holmes or Staff Sgt. Jacqulyn Rider. The annual awards ceremony will be held Feb. 5.

50 SW Annual Awards Banquet - save the date 
The annual awards banquet will be held Feb. 5 at the Peterson Air Force Base club.  The cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. Come and celebrate with the wing's annual award nominees.  The official invitation will be available after Jan. 4. General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program 
The education grant for 2016-2017 school year is now open. This one application gives students the chance to receive a need based grant, a supplemental interest free loan or a merit scholarship (incoming freshman).

Bookshelves, chairs available
Three cream colored bookshelves are available for free.  Their dimensions are 36 inches long, 14 inches wide and 63 inches tall, with four adjustable shelves  in each. There are also 12 burgandy/reddish colored office chairs available for free, fully adjustable and all in good/very good condition. All the furniture is government owned property that must be repurposed by another government office. For more information, contact Charles Turner at 567-2713.

Safety tip
Your home is your castle. Protect it. Ensure your family is prepared in case of a fire, and smoke alarms are operable.  Take precautions when working with electrical equipment, particularly by using appropriate extension cords.  Secure any poisons in your home, especially if you have kids or pets.  Stop by the Safety office and pick up a pamphlet on making your home safe.  You and your family are worth it.
