margutta is the epithome of an italian restaurant you can always go and have a wonderful time. the fish is fresh and comes every morning. the service is perfect.

Outstanding seafood, substantial wine list and excellent service - we had salmon carpaccio, ceviche, sea bass and whole red snapper - all fantastic, don't miss it!!

My wife ordered the lobster (though pricey) absolutely loved it. You know it is really good when someone works to get every delicious bit of meat out of the shell. My pasta dish was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Service is what one...would expect in a fine dining establishment. We ate on the second floor next to a window to the outside. I love desserts and I was not disappointed. They have a nice assortment of desserts so it was a great way to cap off the meal. It was hard to pass up the Brazilian national drink, but they have a wonderful selection of vino, grappa, and the like for those wanting to complete an Italian (or touch of French) culinary night.More

We went on a saturday lunch time. 3 adults 2 kids of 6 years old. Even the kids ate everything ! Specially made for them: pasta and fish filet! I tried and it was really tasteful ! My friend and I ordered tagliatelle seafood! Big...portion but could not stop eating! My husband odered risotto funghi .It was fabulous! Ordered wine, Pinot Grigio ! Excellent ! Last minute visit after late arrival in Rio. Amazing service and delicious food . Do not miss to order Scaloppini di Manso alla Mostarda Dijon as a main course but with a small portion of spaghetti. Real Italian corner.

Three of us went to the Margutta for lunch and my sister-in-law's birthday. We started with perfect martinis. We atr raw oysters, polenta with mushrooms for starters followed by crispy sole and sole in lemon sauce, and a risotto with crispy shrims and squid. All...were excellent. Fomos (tres pessoas) para o almoço e o aniversário da minha cunhada. Começavamos com ostras e polenta com champignons. Em seguida linguado crocante e linguado em molho de limão Siciliano. Eu com risotto com camarões e lulas crocantes. Toda a comida foi ótima e serviço muito bom.More

Five star Dinning! I had whole snapper salt crusted, outstanding and app ceviche ! My friend had sea bass & salmon carpaccio , it was great ! A must for fine dinning!

I discovered thanks to TripAdvisor this very fine and discreet restaurant close to my hotel. It was late, I was not very hungry that evening, but wanted to indulge me a good dinner. Entering the place, I rapidly noticed that the waiters were having a...lot of care doing their duties and after having studied the menu l asked whether the chef would do me the favor of preparing a Zabaglione for my dessert even if it was not suggested on the menu. The waiter had a smile at my request, went to ask the chef and came back immediately with a positive answer. As a starter, I had a nice simple mixed salad, with the Margutta sauce composed of olive oil, vinegar balsamico, salt, pepper and orange juice. That was a well balanced mix, certainly not too sweet in spite of the orange juice. A good surprise. Then I was served the Spaghetti al frutti di mare, excellent equilibrium between the tomato sauce and the seafood, frankly the best eaten so far. ?..a nd then the Zabaglione! Perfect, served in a cold glass, low warm Zabaglione, delicate taste of Malaga wine, foamy with inside a scoop of ice-cream, which is not fully orthodox, but welcome considering Rio's temperature... We are fans of this italian restaurant they can be noninated very fine seafood among the bests restaurants in Rio de Janeiro very simple compare with others the same standards also very honest prices the pasta ,the shell fish,lobsters,shrimps and fine grilled fish absolutely fantastic...if there don't miss octopus au vinagreti and the spagueti al vongoli I strongly recommend.More

Margutta is a fantastic small restaurant with a good variety of fish and pasta. I´ve tried the Parago al Forno alla Neroni and my wife the Parago in Crosta di Sale Grosso. As we say in Brazil one has to it on his knees....

Margutta is by now a Rio fixture, having been in business at the same address for twenty years. It has tables with fresh linens, experienced waiters in crisp uniforms, and a mainly senior clientele. The menu is trilingual, in Italian, Portuguese, and English. Upon arrival,...we ordered a bread basket, which turned out to be heated rolls, obviously brought in from some industrial source, accompanied by three tasty spreads, including delicious fried eggplant cubes and two tasty dips. Although the accompaniments were good, the bread was very disappointing and represented a bad start to our meal. Even at the corner bakery much better bread is easily available. As a starter we had Sauté di funghi freschi trifolati, which struck us as overly salty and too peppery by international standards. The taste of the mushrooms did not make it through the heavy-handed seasoning. Again, a bit of disappointment. For main we had the restaurant’s special twentieth anniversary offering, Riso alla prescatora. This dish was excellent and partially made up for the previous disappointments. It had a generous amount of seafood and rice in the Italian style and even comes with a commemorative souvenir plate that is offered by the restaurant to the diner as a gift. For desert we had what is known in Brazil as ‘petit gateau’, essentially a fondant au chocolat. Again this seemed to have an industrialized origin, but it was no worse than in most other Rio restaurants. Overall, there were some disappointments and some high points, especially the main and the professional service. We were not entirely dissatisfied with our meal, but there seems to be no good reason to return Margutta any time soon.More

Really comfortable place with good and good value. The Octopus salad, served warm, was great! If I was in Rio longer I would have gone back for a 2nd time.
