“I tell the man: it’s good that you want to make the movie, but the truth is that it won’t happen with me, I don’t have the level of fame that is needed and for five years he was proposing to Universal.

“And the studio said ‘we want Nicolas Cage’ and he said ‘Ron Perlman’, they kept saying ‘we want Tom Cruise and he said Ron Perlman’, so after five years the studios said ‘take your script, good luck and god bless you'”.

“The film ended up costing 95 million dollars, almost 100, but what I highlight is that it is very rare that in Hollywood someone supports an actor so much and has so much firmness in saying: ‘I love this person’ as Guillermo del Toro, he did it with me, it’s not something common, it happened… he fought for me”.

To the question: Do you have any “Hellboy” memorabilia? He pointed: “I would have liked to have ‘Hellboy’ memorabilia, but Guillermo kept it all, everything is in his house, he is doing exhibitions with my damn coat, my damn gun and it’s in museums and I’m eating tacos here in Mexico City.”

About “Hand of God”

Perlman indicated that in general he loves what he does, playing different characters, but one in particular that he liked was in the television series “hands of God”, which he said was a character who is literally dragged by God to do things and every time he wanted to do something different he was dragged again.

“I like to be in control, but the character in ‘Hand of God’ doesn’t have control, he doesn’t own his decisions, so it was a challenge for me to play him, that’s why it’s special for me.”

“If you look at the comics, the character of ‘Hellboy’ speaks one-word phrases, he’s pretty flat, he has no personality, so when they made the movie Guillermo had to design what the personality of ‘Hellboy’ would be, so that’s when he decided that he would be lazy, that he eats pizza, that he does not wash his clothes ”.

Finally, when asked if he wanted to do another superhero role, Perlman replied that not everyone wears capes.

“I like to play roles that are heroic, even without powers, but heroism is already a super power in itself. Someone who is willing to sacrifice his life for people he doesn’t know, that’s a superhero.”

Producer facet

“I always value working with real artists, Guillermo del Toro being one of them, so I want to get away from acting a bit so I can be more involved in the productions, so the public can still expect a lot from me,” concluded.
