During his visit to Mexico City, at the La Mole convention, Perlman shared with his fans Mexicans his experience working with Guillermo del Toro, his current projects, his passion for producing and about the book he wrote.
He stressed that Del Toro was very insistent on working with him on said film, despite the fact that the production studio wanted another more recognized actor at that time, in 2002.
“I tell the man: it’s good that you want to make the movie, but the truth is that it won’t happen with me, I don’t have the level of fame that is needed and for five years he was proposing to Universal.
“And the studio said ‘we want Nicolas Cage’ and he said ‘Ron Perlman’, they kept saying ‘we want Tom Cruise and he said Ron Perlman’, so after five years the studios said ‘take your script, good luck and god bless you'”.
So, for two years Guillermo del Toro had the rights to the film and New Line Cinema gave the green light for the “Blade 2” project.
“The movie did well, it made $45 million at the box office.the following Monday after its premiere all the studios wanted to meet with Guillermo del Toro to work with him, they ask him ‘Guillermo, what movie do you want to make? He answers them: ‘Hellboy’great ‘who do you want in the leading role?‘ He tells them: ‘Ron Perlman’”.
The artist commented that all the studios were shocked and that Guillermo del Toro had mentioned that making “Hellboy” would cost him 100 million dollars, but they offered him 65 million, including Perlman, so he closed the deal.
“The film ended up costing 95 million dollars, almost 100, but what I highlight is that it is very rare that in Hollywood someone supports an actor so much and has so much firmness in saying: ‘I love this person’ as Guillermo del Toro, he did it with me, it’s not something common, it happened… he fought for me”.

Perlman indicated that in general he loves what he does, playing different characters, but one in particular that he liked was in the television series “hands of God”, which he said was a character who is literally dragged by God to do things and every time he wanted to do something different he was dragged again.
“I like to be in control, but the character in ‘Hand of God’ doesn’t have control, he doesn’t own his decisions, so it was a challenge for me to play him, that’s why it’s special for me.”

“I am currently working on five different projects in that capacity, as a producer, to have that power of decision and control. I continue to accept work from anyone who wants to hire me and I want to dedicate time to making themes, stories, that are beautiful for me.
