Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski “can’t go forward with” her deal with Weinstein Books unless Harvey Weinstein resigns, she said in an early-morning tweet on Saturday.
“I have a three-book deal with Weinstein Books, through Hachette. I can’t go forward with those books unless Harvey resigns,” she wrote.
The deal with Weinstein Books was announced in July. According to the New York Post‘s “Page Six,” it includes two new books slated for fall of 2018 and a revised version of her 2011 book, Knowing Your Value: Women, Money and Getting What You’re Worth.
She also tweeted out a call to action for those in the entertainment industry. “Authors, actors, and moviemakers should not work for any Weinstein company until he resigns. Not a close call,” she wrote.
The Weinstein Co. announced on Friday evening that the mogul himself would be taking an “indefinite leave of absence” following the bombshell Oct. 5 report by The New York Times detailing decades of sexual-harassment accusations against him. The TWC board also announced it will be hiring an outside law firm to investigate the claims of sexual harassment at the company.
Additionally, three members of the nine-member, all-male board of The Weinstein Co. have now resigned, including Dirk Ziff, Tim Sarnoff and Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry. The Democratic National Committee is also giving away more than $30,000 of donations it received from Weinstein.
A rep for Weinstein Books did not immediately return a request for comment.
