After a long, pandemic-induced hiatus, The Sinner is finally back for Season 4. This time, the now-retired Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) heads to Hanover Island, Maine, to recover from the trauma of a past case. However, when an unexpected tragedy occurs involving the daughter of a prominent local family, Harry gets drawn into an investigation that reveals this sleepy tourist town isn’t exactly what it seems.

The Sinner has a new location this season, but was it actually filmed in Maine? Here’s what to know about the USA Network show’s filming locations.

WHERE WAS THE SINNER FILMED?

The Sinner Season 4 wasn’t filmed in Maine. Actually, it wasn’t even filmed in the United States — while previous seasons were shot in New York and South Carolina, Season 4 is the first to be filmed in Canada’s Nova Scotia Province.

Various towns stood in for Hanover, but the main filming location was Lunenburg County, a fishing area that sits on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. Specifically, The Sinner filmed in Lunenburg’s Downtown Core (a National Historic Site of Canada), as well as Hubbards Beach.

Other Lunenburg towns also stood in for Hanover at various points, including Chester, Mahone Bay, and Riverport. Lunenburg has also recently served as a filming location for shows like Locke & Key and Haven.

So, there you have it! The Sinner Season 4 was made with some help from our northern neighbors.

The Sinner Season 4 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network.
