I've done Nintendo VS Everyone Else, now it's "Video Games VS Everyone Else". I've revised and cut down this roster heavily a few times and some of it is still questionable, but still...tried to focus on a few games that either had a lot of adaptations or prominent ones, were major to their company, or had some heavy influences from other media, and for the "other media", tried to go with ones that were influential in their own right, heavily influenced video games in some way, had prominent licensed titles, or sometimes were even more prominent in video games. With something this broad, it's hard to include everyone I wanted; the original version had 120 characters!

VIDEO GAMES [And some of their adjacent media]
  1. Nintendo: Mario
  2. Ash & Pikachu (Pokemon)
  3. Sony: Kratos (God of War)

Cecily Moore over Ezio or Rayman feels a bit weird imo
I honestly put her on before I realized the game was an Ubisoft one. On the pros side, apparently that was the first video game movie to be "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus I like the actress. I fully admit it's a wonky choice for several reasons, though.

Well seems as I've been sticking this on my profile posts for a few hours, I may as well congeal this into a horrific amalgamation the likes of Pink Sauce. Presenting: DreamMix TV World Fighters 2!

First up comes Konami, one of the key forces in the original!

Yeah, I combined Konami and Hudson. It felt kind of right, both from a combination of the subsequent merger but also just thematically. All of the Konami picks stayed - they felt logical - but whilst most of the Hudson picks dipped, I kept Yugo due to moveset potential and Bomberman because of his iconic status, as well as adding Bonk to the mix as a "funny scrimblo." On top of him, there's also Pyramid Head - slow-moving slasher - Frogger, an arcade classic that I think would be pretty fun, Disco Afro, a rep for the DDR series which I felt would be pretty necessary (though I came very close to putting a Beatmania character in his place!), Goemon, semi-common Smash request and weirdly fitting JP pick, Sparkster, a popular character amongst the Genesis lovers due to his appearance there, and Yugi, who I felt would be reasonable to include given that the card game Yu-Gi-Oh sort of fits the toys of the roster (and seems reasonable considering we have Beyblade, and something else later.)

Next is Takara Tomy: note that I removed Transformers from their lineup but added it to... someone else.

First up - everyone (other than the Transformers, I'll get to them) stays! I felt they were solid choices to keep around and overall gave the roster a pretty cool vibe. On top of them, we have White Leo from BeastFormers, who I felt would be a cool pick for a beast-based character, as well as Big Serow from the series Beast Saga (despite not being the main character, I felt the archetype of "semi-anthro deer" would lend well to a game like this.) On top of that, we have Van Flyheight from the Zoids franchise, who'd bring in his Blade Liger as needed for particularly strong attacks. (Felt like a notable omission.) As well as this, I've got Norahike from the ChoroQ series - a playable car would always be cool - Cobalt Blade from B-Daman, Aira Harume from the Pretty Rhythm franchise, and a couple of odder picks in Eiji Shinjo from Battle Arena Toshinden, Cosmittor from Starriors, the pirate (known as Blackbeard) from Pop-Up Pirate, and the Omnibot of How I Met Your Mother fame.

Lastly... it's the crossover everyone saw coming, Hasbro!

I decided to toss Optimus into here, but got rid of Megatron so that I could bring in more franchises. On top of the Autobot, we have Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe, who I'd imagine having a ninja-like archetype, Twilight Sparkle with a magically-based moveset, Red Ranger to represent Power Rangers as a whole, a Furby (who has a "Long Furby" move and an overall slightly unsettling vibe), Action Man - who takes more inspiration from the outlandish spy-esque aspects of the toyline, a Troll Doll (I mention Battle Trolls because they're the ones with most Hasbro history, but a normal Troll Doll would fit too!) As well as this, we have Mr. Potato Head who could be pretty fun, Murph as a NERF rep to give a unique spin on the roster and add an absolute ICON, a Play-Doh Monster that can freely change form (like a more kid-friendly version of The Thing), Stretch Armstrong who's basically "Captain Falcon with Min Min range", and then ROM the Spaceknight - taking most inspiration from the Marvel and IDW comics, though still having a traditional toy as an alt. Lastly comes Rich Uncle Pennybags from the Monopoly franchise, an obvious board game rep, and Jace from Magic: The Gathering - who felt like the most reasonable "main character" and a perfect rival to another card-based series protag, Yugi.

So, yeah! A roster of 42 characters is admittedly a big step up from the previous game's 17, but I think a roster like this would cover a lot of bases and make a lot of people happy. There were a few franchises and characters I felt would be a good idea to hold out - most notably Dungeons and Dragons from the Hasbro side and either Dracula or Alucard from the Castlevania series, and maybe just more villains in general. They'd be solid DLC picks, as well as a few others, and I think this would be a good starting point from which to springboard, as well as just a solid point to release at anyway.

The DreamMix TV World Fighters 2 roster seems like it would be incredibly fun. I very much enjoy the idea of turning toys into fighters, kind of gives the vibe of a varied toybox and a kid making them all interact.

Here is a profile post concept from a bit back that I forgot to post here...

ENEMY ARMIES: TROOP BATTLES
  1. Goomba (Mario)
  2. Koopa Troopa (Mario)
  3. Moblin (Legend of Zelda)
  4. Octorok (Legend of Zelda)
  5. Metroid
  6. Waddle Dee (Kirby)
  7. Kremling (Donkey Kong)
  8. Ratata (Pokémon)
  9. Motobug (Sonic)
  10. Galsia (Streets of Rage)
  11. Metool (Mega Man)
  12. Poison (Final Fight)
  13. Zombie (Ghosts & Goblins/Resident Evil/Plants VS Zombies/various movies/etc.)
  14. Skeleton (Castlevania/Jason & the Argonauts/Army of Darkness/etc.)
  15. Ghosts (Pac-Man)
  16. Pooka (Dig Dug)
  17. Slime (Dragon Quest)
  18. Shadows (Kingdom Hearts)
  19. Space Invaders
  20. Imp (DOOM)
  21. The Zerg (Starcraft)
  22. Headcrab (Half-Life)
  23. Yorgle (Adventure)
  24. Green Pig (Angry Birds)
  25. Red Bloon (Bloons Tower Defense)
  26. Orc (Lord of the Rings/Warhammer 401K/etc.)
  27. Stormtrooper (Star Wars)
  28. Xenomorph (Alien)
  29. Mogwai (Gremlins)
  30. Putty Patrol (Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers)
  31. Shocker Combatman (Kamen Rider)
  32. Sentinel (X-Men/Marvel)
  33. Parademon (New Gods/DC)
  34. FOOT Soldier (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
  35. Zaku (Mobile Suit Gundam)
  36. Army Man [like the little green/tan toys]

Unique mechanics
Each character has three other minions to summon as Assists, similar to Famicom Fighters
They can also sometimes summon a boss for Supers, though it’ll never be a main guy like Bowser, Eggman, Darth Vader, etc. more like, say, Boom-Boom or Charvaargh, the Hard-Boiled Heavies, or the Rancor, to give examples from those same series. This gives the game a slight element of strategy/tower defense games, where you can pick and choose the proper "units" for a given situation.

A fighting game based on Midway's arcade library? Sure, why not! Note that pretty much anything goes here, but I wanted to focus on older stuff - characters like Afro Thunder came close, but I didn't think they were really fitting. With that, here's the roster (and I'm keeping it to one per-game):

01. Defender Ship. I think Defender is one of Midway's best-known and most respected arcade titles, and the concept of literally playing as a ship is a really fun one to bring into play. I considered adding the aliens from the original game but I felt the ship itself would be more fitting.
02. Robotron Hero. The hero of Robotron: 2084, again a very well-respected game in Midway's history and one with a lot to pull from overall. Not much to say here.
03. Ostrich Jockey. The protagonist of Joust, I felt they'd be an essential inclusion into a game like this. Their steed-based nature would make them pretty fun too!
04. Paperboy. Again, an obvious pick from an obvious inclusion - I think he'd be fun though, with a healthy mix of arcing projectiles, bike-based shenanigans, and maybe newspaper swatting.
05. Thyra, the Valkyrie. I felt she'd be the most interesting pick - being a sword-user whilst being fairly middle of the road and some valuable female representation. She'd also call in Thor, Questor, and Merlin for certain attacks.
06. George. Given they all function practically identically in game, I felt George would be solid as "the funi big monke" - though I came close to adding Lizzie, I had a different large lizard character in mind for later on.
07. Rad Boarder. The character you play as in 720, who almost completely uses a skateboard and has a lot of focus on tricks and stunts. I just felt they'd be a solid inclusion!
08. Spy Hunter. Taking more inspiration from spy movies like Mission: Impossible and James Bond, but I think he'd also call in his car for final moves. Again, an obvious but very fun inclusion.
09. Sinistar. This one I genuinely struggled with, because I did actually consider having Sinistar as the final boss of the game. However, I think he'd also work in a playable role. He's still the "main villain", but he's more of a bullet hell type character to play as - though also a superheavyweight.
10. Bartender. Tapper was a particularly prominent Midway title to include, but he's a little lower on the list because I'm specifically including his interpretation from Root Beer Tapper. Hey, we don't need the game to be rated Mature.
11. The Wizard. Funnily enough, we have another villain - I think the Wizard is a solid inclusion, despite his more technological nature. Hey, it'd be pretty fun to play around with and see how the game's mechanics could be twisted to fit here.
12. Cyberball Player. I think the concept of "robotic American football player" lends very well to a fighting game and overall would be incredibly cool to see.
13. Max Force. Imagine how Bill Rizer would play in Smash. That. NARC was infamous for its ultraviolence and I think it'd fit well here, even if toned down just a little. Who wouldn't want to see a gun-toting SWAT member beat Paperboy into mincemeat? US Congress, that's who.
14. Dr. Kwack. I decided Xenophobe would be a solid inclusion, but I didn't know who to include. I'm saying "Dr. Kwack" here but for the most part, the attacks themselves are done by the aliens hanging around them, with things like tentacles and creepy "critters".
15. Basketbrawler. Basically just "what if LeBron was pissed" taken physical form. Hey, whatever happened to a "non-contact sport"?
16. Buzz. I had a few open options with Pit-Fighter, but I felt Buzz's moveset - being an ex-pro wrestler and all - would make him unique here.
17. Vindicator Tank. Literally a large tank - though toned down a little to fit better on the screen. If you needed a tank archetype, there it is.
18. Satan. Yeah, literally Satan. He'd fight on the screen as well as summoning the dragon-like demons from the game to fight. Again, as with the Wizard, he felt like a more natural inclusion than another nameless ship.
19. Armadon. I felt he'd be the best pick from Primal Rage, being sort of an ankliosaur - plus having high defence and being a natural counter to the Vindicator and George.
20. Trog. Whilst you play as little dinosaurs in the original game, I felt that the cyclops caveman would be a better pick - and maybe including the dinosaurs as they try and escape becoming his lunch.
21. Lumberjack. Yeah, I think he'd be cool. He's actually the main reason I included Thyra as opposed to Thor from Gauntlet, because I felt his archetype would be better suited to a lumberjack - and overall I think he'd be fun to see.
22. Electro-Mechanical Man. A representative of Midway's earlier electro-mechanical library, similar to Mr. Game and Watch. He'd have a wide variety of different moves to pull from and would be a little blocky white man and I think would be really cool to see.
23. Scorpion. Yes, I'm only doing one MK character, he had to be here, what were you expecting.

That rounds out the first-party stuff, but there's a few guests too!
24. Space Invader. Turns out Midway was instrumental in the production of this game, and I felt it'd be cool to see an Invader here - a natural enemy to the Defender ship.
25. Ms. Pac-Man. Yes, specifically Ms. Pac-Man. She's more closely connected to Midway than her more famous partner, and besides, I think it'd be really cool to see her get her chance to shine among the arcade greats.
26. Fulgore. Perhaps the least "logical" guest, but Midway were involved in the distribution of the original game, and I think he'd be a good natural enemy for Scorpion to face.
27. Tron. I couldn't ignore the two games developed by Midway - Tron and Discs of Tron - and whilst he takes his appearance exclusively from the 80s movie and tie-in media, I think he'd still be really cool to see. Maybe even have Sark as a deluxe costume and another villain to fight along Satan, the Wizard, and Sinistar?

(Note: you have no idea how difficult it was to find images for some of the characters so please just take the marquees instead)

There's a few omissions, I'll admit. However, I felt some of them would be more fitting for other roles - for instance, Marble Madness would be represented as a stage. I also did consider whether to include the Midway Gamer Kid from LEGO Dimensions, but decided he's a perfect DLC pick alongside a couple of others (characters like Sub-Zero spring to mind.) Maybe some other fitting arcade guests would be reasonable - for instance, the Chef from BurgerTime would be a natural fit with the Midway history given its creation. To be honest, I originally considered to have this be Midway vs. Taito, but I felt keeping it to Midway would be a really cool way to represent them in a unique format. So yeah - hope y'all like it!

Multiversus but if it wasn't a "live service" kind of game
Went with 40 characters, just one character more than that of Smash Brawl - Not too many, not too few. Also, I only went with Warner Bros. properties, despite the potential for guest fighters in the actual Multiversus.
  1. Superman (DC)
  2. Batman
  3. Wonder Woman
  4. The Joker
  5. Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes)
  6. Daffy Duck
  7. Taz
  8. Gandalf (Lord of the Rings)
  9. Tom & Jerry (...)
  10. Fred (The Flintstones)
  11. Yogi Bear (...)
  12. Scooby & Shaggy (Scooby-Doo)
  13. Godzilla (...)
  14. King Kong (...)
  15. Black/White Spy (Spy vs. Spy)
  16. Ralph (Rampage)
  17. Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
  18. Courage (Courage the Cowardly Dog)
  19. Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)
  20. The Ed Boys (Ed, Edd, & Eddy)
  21. Johnny Bravo (...)
  22. The Powerpuff Girls (...)
  23. Captain Planet (...)
  24. The Mask (...)
  25. Beetlejuice (...)
  26. The Warners (Animaniacs)
  27. Stripe (Gremlins)
  28. Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
  29. Neo (The Matrix)
  30. Ben 10 (...)
  31. Samurai Jack (...)
  32. Maxwell (Scribblenauts)
  33. Gumball (The Amazing World of Gumball)
  34. Finn (Adventure Time)
  35. Jake
  36. Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)
  37. Steven Universe (...)
  38. Garnet
  39. Rick & Morty (...)
  40. K.O. (OK KO: Let's Be Heroes)
Possible DLC:
  • Ostrich and Jouster (Joust)
  • Robot Chicken (...)
  • George (The Jetsons)
  • Nigel (Codename KIDS Next Door)
  • The Flash (DC)
  • DC's lineup was pretty much perfect as is - The only thing I decided to change from the original selection was swapping Harley for the Joker. Nothing against Harley, she's a great character, but the Joker is one of comics' most infamous villains (and my personal favorite of the lot, if we're being honest), so I felt oblidged to give him the edge.
  • Speaking of cuts, I cut Lebron - No offense to the man himself, but I really do not feel he belongs in the Multiversus roster for any other reason besides "He was in Space Jam 2" and "It'd be funny". I also cut Iron Giant, but trust me when I say I was not happy about the decision.
  • I know Scooby's currently slated to be a seperate fighter from Shaggy, but to be honest, I love the idea of the two teaming up more. Yes, you'd probably have to give up Ultra Instinct Shaggy, but I think you could have a lot of fun with the dynamic.
  • Alright, mask off - The Spies were a biased pick. I grew up loving the Cartoon Network run of MAD, and they're probably one of my most wanted Multiversus picks, so they have a lot going for them in my eyes.
  • I chose Ralph as the Rampage rep because I feel that George and Lizzie would be too similar to King Kong and Godzilla respectively.
  • I don't think I need to talk about why I chose Freddy, given his influence in the horror genre, but I wanna give an honorable mention to Jason Vorhees - He'd be a really cool character, but given all the legal shenanigans revolving around him and his franchise, I had to leave him off the roster in the name of being somewhat realistic.
  • Captain Planet is my oddball pick for this roster - He was in Punch-Time Explosion, sure, but he's a fun pick and a part of many fans' childhoods.
  • I chose Stripe over Gizmo because I feel you could do a lot of stuff with the former if you made him a "amalgamate" character like Piranha Plant and gave him abilities from all sorts of gremlins. You could give him the classic shotgun and spider forms, sure, but how about the Electric Gremlin for a recovery or otherwise quick attack?
  • Admitedly, I don't know too much about OK KO, but I love its aesthetic, so I chose it to represent the "modern" era of CN (that, and it's one of the modern era's more popular shows from what I understand).

A wacky clash between the greats of Sunsoft's history! I felt they'd be a fun company to delve into given their interesting but slightly more obscure history compared to the likes of Namco, Capcom or Konami - so here goes nothing! Note that the characters included are in no particular order.

01. Hebe. A simple, but fun, addition from the Hebereke series - Hebe would be able to bring in his friends O-Chan, Sukezaemon and Jennifer to fight alongside him in a sort of middle-ground between Ren and Stimpy and Ice Climbers.
02. Jason. I considered having this be Jason and SOPHIA, playing similarly to the original game by hopping in and out of the tank, but in this case you'd play as Jason and have access to SOPHIA's firepower in the form of a more manouverable "final smash" similar to Fox and Falco's Landmaster.
03. Sunman. An unfinished stand-in for a game originally planned to be a Superman title, I think Sunman's nature as a superhero lends well to a game like this - plus, he'd be able to have a lot of aerial manouverability which seems like quite a lot of fun. He's also sort of a rep of Sunsoft's DC games, so there's that too I suppose.
04. Yumetaro. The main character from Mr. Gimmick, I felt Yumetaro would be a really fun "scrimblo" inclusion who'd have a lot of mid-range options with his star powers, as well as a generally high degree of manouverability.
05. Jay McCray. In this case, I'd like to imagine Jay working more like a trapper character by using the various smaller robots he fights for stage control, making him pretty unique to Jason's more projectile-focused nature. Journey to Silius felt like something fun to see here!
06. Cark and Carry. A "futuristic guy and small robot buddy" duo from the text-based adventure game Dead Zone, I felt they'd be a really fun inclusion to try and give a unique portrayal in a game like this, especially given the context of their source material.
07. Jeanne D'Arc. Specifically from World Heroes, a later Sunsoft/SNK fighting game, I felt Jeanne was the best pick from the game despite not being the main character. She went on to appear in SNK Heroines, and her chain-sword fighting style would be really fun to see.
08. Politank Z. Likewise, I wanted to just think of the best-fitting character from Waku Waku 7's diverse cast, and the policeman and dog duo riding a small mecha sounded like a perfect counter to a character like Jason.
09. Aero. From Aero the Acro-Bat, I think his "animal scrimblo" character would make him fun to see, as would his acrobatic moveset based on stunts and the like. Not much to say here, he just felt... logical.
10. Albert. From the Albert Odyssey series, he comes closest to filling the role of a traditional RPG hero character. Similarly to Marth, he originates from a strategy series so I think there's potential to explore that sort of strategic playstyle in his own moveset.
11. Sasuke. From the game Shounen Ninja Sasuke, he's a ninja who isn't to be confused with another, more popular ninja named Sasuke. Overall, I felt a ninja character would be a fun inclusion and overall felt like a logical addition.
12. Opa-Opa. Turns out Sunsoft had a history of porting Fantasy Zone to various different places, one of the most notable being the NES - and Opa-Opa feels like a natural inclusion with this in mind. Overall, they have a very aerially-oriented playstyle that, in some way, implements the shop.

As for unlockable picks:
XX: Zero. Aero's great rival, and the protagonist of his own game Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, I felt Zero would be a pretty solid inclusion to fill out a "rapid swordmaster" archetype, as well as tossing in a few explosions for good measure.
XX: Yacopu. Originally the main character from Trip World, but then featuring as the mid-boss of Galaxy Fight, Yacopu is a small rabbit that can shapeshift into nearly anything - including opponents. I picture their moveset being like a combination of Twelve from SFIII with the body type of Pichu.
XX: Jennifer Simpson. This seems like an utterly ridiculous inclusion but here's Jennifer Simpson from the 1995 point-and-click horror title Clock Tower. I have little to no idea how she'd play, maybe using garden shears, but she seems like such an off-the-wall inclusion that she'd be fun.
XX: Lemmings. I was torn between a couple of guest picks to have here, but I felt the Lemmings would be by far the most fun (justified by Sunsoft publishing the game for the NES, SNES and Genesis!) I think they'd be pretty technical, which is why they go into unlockable territory, but they'd be cool.

And, a couple of secret fighters:
0A. Kangaroo. A secret fighter from one of Sunsoft's earliest titles, I felt the concept of a "boxing kangaroo" would just naturally lend very well to a game like this. Overall it just felt like a good choice from an earlier title and a cool way to represent their arcade roots.
0B. Bonus-Kun. Featured in both Waku Waku 7 and Galaxy Fight, Bonus-Kun is a shoto fighter from a world where everyone is a punching bag. And is likewise a punching bag. Honestly, he felt like an utterly perfect addition in spite of the games hes from already having reps, so he gets in!

It's a smaller roster than some of my previous, but I think this is a pretty okay one at the very least (even if I'll admit there's a lot of bias toward their NES era, Chameleon Twist fans are screaming right now) but hey, I think it's got a lot of variety at minimum. Hope this is cool!

A roster I did yesterday for an equal-series balance Microsoft crossover.

In hindsight I feel I should've had the SkiFree Yeti instead of Scuzz, and I do kinda feel I must've got something wrong about Halo or Doom in my picks since I only did surfsce level research. Crash is pretty much only here for aesthetic variety.

  • A character for each numbered SF game (the ones that are out anyway) + Akuma. I felt this would be a good way of repping SF.
  • Leon is Resi 4 Leon, Jill is Resi 1, Wesker is Resi 5. This gives us a rep for the OG trilogy, a rep for Resi 4, a Rep for the action era, and a rep for the modern games with Lady D.
  • The DMC cast all have their 5 designs.
  • Mega Man has a rep for each sub series. (Aside from Starforce)
  • I feel AA is big enough for a 2nd rep and Athena acts as a rep for the modern games
  • Spencer is the OG/Rearmed version rather than the moody reboot one
  • Fiona's moveset would be very off the wall, involving hiding from monsters and having Hewie attack
  • Characters who nearly made it include Luke, Son-Son, Demitri, Nilin, Edward Falcon, Saki, Jin, Firebrand, and Leo

Ed Bighead for NASB 2
I had a go at making a newcomer roster for a NASB 2 (assuming DLC ends at Rocko) - I have no clue if an extra 20 characters would be feasible on any non-Smash budget, let alone a budget as small as NASB's (though I would've said the same about getting 20 characters in NASB's base game too), even if 5 are clones, but either way I tried to combine personal want; feasibility; fan demand; and surprise.

Squidward
Mr. Krabs
DoodleBob (SpongeBob clone)
Luna Loud
Ronnie Ann (Lincoln clone)
Rapheal (Rise)
Donatello (2012) (Leo and Shredder are '03 now)
Odie
Tommy Pickles (Baby)
Zuko
Adult Aang (Aang clone)
Young Korra (Korra clone)
Timmy Turner
Crimson Chin
Jorgen Von Strangle
Jimmy Neutron
Gerald Johanssen (Helga clone)
Heffer
Vlad Plasmius
Biggie Cheese

Alright so, KOF XI is one of my favorite KOF games that its near to be my favorite overall if it wasn't because certaaaaain nitpicks. Under the general fandom the game is well-knowed between other things like how absurdly powerful Gato is there for the fact that it has one of the weirdest team compositions full of brand new teams that nobody would imagina before. I actually like that but I think it had one limitation and it was that the game required and story, so certain more peculiar combinations where impossible. So what if we made a Dream Match game but with KOF XI's roster style?

Note that we are talking about improbable teams more like just random characters paired without any particular reason, a team of Joe Higashi, Rugal and Athena would be weird but it doesn't make any sense, even if is a Dream Match the characters should have some palpable connection between each other.

Also there are not KOF XIV-XV characters not because I don't like them because is all the opposite some of them became favorites of mine like Mian, Antonov or Alice...just because I'm lazy to search sprites of them.
Team Kusanagi
Team Yagami
Team Fatal Fury
Team Art of Fighting
Team Garou
Team Japan
Team Kim
Team K
Team Ikari
Team Psycho Soldier
Team Super Heroines
Team Agents
Team Outlaw
Team Masters
Team Pretty Girls
Team Ash
Team Orochi
Team Bosses
Team South Town
Team NESTS
  • Team Kusanagi: Very easy to explain, all three are related by a fighting style and both Kyo and Saisyu works has masters of the naive Shingo.
  • Team Yagami: A more strange one, but considering how Adelheid and Iori most likely met each other during the Ash Saga and how all three have some debts with Ash it makes sense for me.
  • Team Fatal Fury: Maybe it has more sense than the one of XI but its notorious the lack of Terry in the team.
  • Team Art of Fighting: Once again what it's more notorious is the lack of the usual leader of the team, in this case Ryo.
  • Team Garou: Teased in the ending of the Garou Team in KOF XV, sounds like an interesing team for me.
  • Team Japan: Or the Japan MMA Team, where with the exception of Ryo everyone uses actual martial arts.
  • Team Korea: A quite popular fan-combination but that still doesn't happen.
  • Team K: Just pretend that the sprite is from Krohnen and not K9999
  • Team Ikari: This is a personal favorite of mine, even if I would miss Clark
  • Team Psycho Soldiers: Very similar to the AoF and FF teams, the most notorious change is the lack of their regular leader Athena.
  • Team Super Heroines: The female team was always quite loose in terms of restrictions, so you can work with almost anything you want.
  • Team Agents: I was considering use Vanessa instead of Whip but it would be just the XI Team and the idea is use brand new combinations.
  • Team Outlaw: Probably the most weird one alongside the Team Japan, even then it has some sense considering that Billy knows the two of them and all three worked for Geese once at least.
  • Team Masters: My bias leaking in the roster, since Masters Team is my favorite team over all. And since two of their previous members (Saisyu and Heidern) are in other teams this is a good opportunity to try some other characters in the composition.
  • Team Pretty Girls: Very much the same has the Super Heroine Team, is also the "Blue-Haired Girls Team".
  • Team Ash: I get inspired by Elisabeth's intentions to fight alongside Benimaru once again.
  • Team Orochi: While is true that Yamazaki doesnt cares a f*ck about Orochi he is moved by the money, so Vice and Mature could try to buy their cooperation.
  • Team Bosses: A team of KOF bosses, thought my original intention was have one of each saga the idea to have a NESTS exclusive team changed that.
  • Team South Town: Or "Team Fatal Fury Bosses", both names works.
  • Team NESTS: I hope the reincarnation of the big ones of NESTS we get some team like this some day.

Ok, inspired by the multiple production companies in PBS Kids: Brawltime!, here is a roster for a nostalgic British company most of us grew up with as kids.

HiT Entertainment: The HIT Clash!

Base roster:

1. Sir Topham Hatt (Thomas and Friends, he's the shoto of the game)
2. Barney (Barney and Friends)
3. Riff (Barney and Friends)
4. Bob the Builder
5. Spud (Bob the Builder)
6. Kipper
7. Angelina Ballerina
8. Tubb (The Rubbadubbers)
9. Wishbone
10. Oswald
11. Fireman Sam
12. Mike the Knight
13. Fifi (Fifi and The Flowertots)
14. Big Chris (Roary the Racing Car)
15. Pingu
16. Percy the Park Keeper
17. Georgina (Sheeep)
18. Anthony Ant
19. Brambly Hedge Mice

20. Untalkative Bunny

There would be a Mii fighter-ish character in the form of the Pic Me avatar (Little Boy or Little Girl like Miis)

Now, for the two seasons of DLC:

Season 1:
1. The Classic Wiggles as a stance fighter
2. Captain Zed (Captain Zed and the Zee Zone)
3. Mumfie (The Magic Adventures of Mumfie)
4. Jerry (The Three Friends... and Jerry)
5. Postman Pat

Season 2:
1. Brum
2. Wally/Waldo (Where's Wally/Waldo?)
3. Dennis and Gnasher
4. Captain Pugwash
5. Kermit (HiT Entertainment initially started out as a company from Jim Henson so perfect way to end this game.)

Overall, a roster consisting of characters from iconic HiT IPs as well as obscure names.

Alright, this might seem like a weird thing to do, but here's a bit of an unusual one from me - a sort of "What if?" in terms of, "What if Smash Bros.'s first title was released today?" I'm going to presume, for the sake of argument, that the landscape of gaming is similar enough to be fairly indistinguishable from that of the current - whilst there's obviously arguments like "BUT FIRE EMBLEM" to be made, I think it'd make things easier if we just presume that the only difference in this bizarro world is that Smash released... today. This is also presuming that Nintendo even has any interest in making a game like this - I'm not sure how Nintendo in this world would feel about Pikachu being killed with a sword or something, but I'm going to presume it's fine. Anyways, getting into it:

1661341535318.png

(Note that yellow is your starting roster, pink is your unlockables, and green is your DLC.)

01. Mario. This feels like a really, really obvious pick - and that's because it is. I've based the majority of this roster on either the most prominent of Nintendo IPs or the best-selling Switch titles, and Mario obviously fits both. It's unequivocal.
02. Pikachu. This would be the first issue of "would they want this character in a fighting game?", but I think Pokken proves this is feasible. Again, an obvious pick, a prominent series, and an icon of gaming. NEXT PLEASE.
03. Link. Specifically in his BotW design? Okay, whilst we all love his green tunic look, Nintendo would want to use this game for promotion - and with BotW2 on its way and BotW already being the fourth best-selling Switch title, it's a shoe-in pick.
04. Inkling. One of Nintendo's biggest "new" IPs, and an overall unique moveset based on projectiles, as well as a fully-fledged series at this point, I think Inkling can safely be said to be a shoe-in pick at this point too.
05. Bowser. This roster spot was difficult. I considered having Donkey Kong here, but in the end, I felt that the "DK series" getting its own rep in the base roster would be better suited for another role. He's essentially your "villain rep", a heavyweight, and a Mario character. Shoe-in pick.
06. Spring Man. This one was difficult. I had a few ideas as to who to place here - but I felt an ARMS rep would be a logical pick for something like this, and then it was like "which ARMS character?" Well, he'd probably have Spring Girl as a model-swap alternate "costume" of sorts.
07. Kirby. I think Kirby's in an interesting position here. Constantly relevant, lots of Nintendo history, might not be as instantaneously iconic as Mario or Pikachu, but makes a lot of sense to include nonetheless. Plenty of potential too!
08. Chrom. Now, this was incredibly difficult. I originally had Byleth in this role, but I think Chrom is a better representative of the whole "Fire Emblem" series - he fulfils the traditional Lord archetype, has somewhat recent relevence, and is a somewhat popular fan pick from the series. Three Houses strikes me as a logical DLC pick for cross-promotion, and whilst Marth is important to the series, a part of me does feel that Chrom would be better suited here.

Now, for the unlockables...

09. Charizard. An obvious Pokemon pick, though one I massively deliberated on. I originally considered having Mewtwo here, or perhaps a Gen VIII pick, but I felt that Charizard's ever-present relevence, as well as being iconic in his own right, made him a logical pick. This isn't even getting into his really unique moveset potential for a game like this!
10. Luigi. Luigi isn't a Mario clone, but I felt he would would work well as a safe unlockable pick. His moveset is based on a wide variety of different appearances, with a focus on Luigi's Mansion, but he has similarities to his brother of course.
11. Samus. Metroid is a very cool series, but not one exactly known for selling massively well. As such, Samus felt like a reasonable addition to the roster as an unlockable fighter - one that acts as a degree of cross-promotion for more recent Metroid titles like Dread and the upcoming Prime 4, but also calls back to Metroid's history with Nintendo. Her moveset would be a lot lighter than her current Smash moveset, more similar to her manouverability in her source material.
12. Villager. I ended up putting Villager here because the nature of "OMG, THEY ACTUALLY PUT ANIMAL CROSSING IN THIS GAME??" feels like a really funny misdirection to have in the unlockable category. Animal Crossing is undeniably a huge IP to represent somewhere, but I felt that putting them in this role would be generally a cool way to end off the unlockables with a weird, but cool inclusion.

Now, for DLC!

13. Donkey Kong. Day-One DLC is a touchy subject, but I think Donkey Kong lends well to it. He's a Nintendo icon, with tons of history to pull from, and whilst he may not boast as many sales in terms of his home series as other IPs, DK is an obvious "sit up and take notice" pick for DLC that would pique interest very, very quickly. His moveset would mostly be pulled from the DKC series, but there'd be a couple of hints and nods to titles like the original arcade game.
14. Sportsmate. This spot was between three characters - Ring Fit Trainee, Mii, or Sportsmate - but ultimately, I went with the latter. Ring Fit Adventure is a brilliant game that I'd love to see represented, but with Nintendo Switch Sports being a more recent - and more rapidly selling - title, I felt it would be of more interest to Nintendo to cross-promote a live service game with this character. Likewise, whilst a Mii would be a great Wii rep, and does have Switch functionality, I think Nintendo is somewhat trying to phase out the Miis - and overall, the Sportsmate feels like they'd have a more set-in-stone moveset.
15. Byleth. A Three Houses rep felt like an obvious pick for DLC, what with the game's popularity, the series being a rising star in Nintendo's lineup, the recent Three Hopes, and a generally somewhat popular character. Remember, this game only has Chrom in terms of FE reps as of yet - so I honestly think that Byleth would be really well-recieved in this role.
16. Little Mac. An overt "for the fans" pick, I think Punch-Out!! would be a series Nintendo would take interest in for this project. His "middle of the line" nature in terms of the DLC lineup is kind of because of his relative obscurity compared to other picks - sure, Punch-Out!! is important and beloved, but it's not as instantly iconic as some other picks, and isn't really promoting anything current either. However, I do think that the series is relevant enough to be considered for this role, even if he only just slips into the roster here. I had a few other picks in mind - he actually just about edged out Olimar, who I considered due to the relevence of Pikmin as a newer IP compared to some others - but Mac felt like a "for the fans" pick with easy implementation and a lot of potential.
17. Rex. Xenoblade is an interesting series that I do, honestly, think would make sense to see here. I originally had Shulk in mind what with his and the Monado's constant relevence, but XC2 has sold much more and has DLC to promote - and whilst XC3 is on the horizon, I think Rex would be a generally pretty beloved pick to see here. In terms of his hypothetical blade-switching, I'm going to suggest that he sticks with Pyra and keeps things simple and spoiler-free!
18. Mewtwo. This choice was a really, really difficult one to make. I originally wanted "a modern Pokemon rep" of some description, but the difficulty was, with the upcoming Gen IX to think about, I honestly was torn between a Gen VIII and Gen IX rep. I even considered Dialga! Eventually, though, I went with Mewtwo. Mewtwo's semi-villainous role would work well in terms of trailers, keep high levels of interest in the DLC with a beloved character, and brings a unique fighting style... even if it's another Gen I rep. I also think that Mewtwo is a perfect high note to end off DLC's first season with, so there's that.

There's a lot of interesting omissions, I think. Fox is probably the most prominent to the Smashers - he's out given the relative disinterest in the Star Fox IP over time and a general lack of anything to pull from, which also sort of doomed Falcon for the same reason. Yoshi came close, but I felt that he didn't really make as much sense as the four I have here - him getting in over Bowser or DK seemed weird to me and I couldn't really justify it. Ness came close to nabbing Mac's spot in DLC, but I felt that the Mother series isn't something Nintendo would scramble to represent, even if a unique interpretation of Ness would be fun to see. The Japan-exclusivity of Mother 3 kind of put the nail in the coffin for him.

Mario Party style games have been known to have small rosters, which makes a fun challenge

Nickelodeon: Slime and Ladders
  1. SpongeBob
  2. Michelangelo
  3. Garfield
  4. Lincoln Loud
  5. Tommy Pickles
  6. Aang
  7. Rocko
  8. Jimmy Neutron
The game is hosted by Nigel Thornberry (a character who just barely missed out from the playable roster), Splinter and Shredder appear as the "DK and Bowser" counterparts, and Squidward runs all the shops.

Inspired by Multiversus, I decided to make a roster based on Sony almost as a whole. Not just Playstaton but also Sony Pictures as well. Combing some of their gaming and TV Show/Movie IPs all into one crossover game. Think of this as a spiritual successor to Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal.
