List of Found Footage Films (June 2021 Update!)
Hi Friends!
I have an updated list for you. If you haven't seen my posts before, I just like to make a massive list of Found Footage Films as I see them. Sometimes I give my opinion. Sometimes I just catalog it. Let me know if there is one that I don't have on the list that I should check out!!
June 2021
Brew House (on Tubi)
4K killer. - not a fan personally. But I’ve seen it on other people’s lists so maybe you’ll enjoy it.
lost footage of Leah Sullivan (@subgenre_fanatic) - I enjoyed this one!
Cruiser
Turtle island
Horror in the High Desert - Can we get a sequel please!
The haunting of Grady farm
Invoked
2survive
Hangman (on Tubi) - meh. Didn't love this one.
Amber Alert
Lured (on Amazon Prime)
December 2020
Incident- Spanish film. I enjoyed this one.
Daylight- I liked this one. There were some parts that were a bit confusing but overall I enjoyed it. Found on Amazon Prime.
-Apocalypse Cult - I’m allllll about weird religion shit for FF films. does anyone else accidentally watch a movie they have already seen, but doesn’t realize it till about 20 minutes in. That was me with this film. Suddenly I was like “oh wait... I’ve seen this”.
Murder death Korea town (@fuckfucknoose)
-8ight after
The lost blog of ruby real
Update September 2020
The Atticus institute- I finally bit the bullet and rented this.
Houses October built- I’m a little surprised I have never seen this. It was enjoyable. Well shot. Good spook factor.
Evil Things- I like this kind of “real life” horror scenario. Not a ghostie FF (although I do enjoy those). The last ten min was pretty unnerving.
Followers (2017)- I liked the idea of this. But this is pretty bad. Also, bro how do you get lost on a looped 3 mile paved park trail.
Operation avalanche- interesting. Not a horror film. But interesting.
-Victor’s History- okay this isn’t a horror film in the typical sense. But I really love that realistic social tension so I liked this one a lot. If you like the hyper realistic and the more “psychological” thriller. This is good.
-The Hunted- this wasn’t my favorite. Had a lot of potential with the creepy woods vibe. But the story was a little lacking. But you might like it.
-Gaga the clown- skip it.
-Unaware. I love that it was so easy to bust open sealed barns and boxes with a crow bar. Not a ton of build up. Emphasis on the low budget aspect, but mildly enjoyable.
-American Descent-the beginning almost lost me, but I stuck it out. I enjoyed the teenagers being teenagers aspect of it. Made it seem more real.
-Nightlight-pretty decent. This one just jumps right into the action whereas most FF take awhile. Moral of the story: play stupid games win stupid prizes.
-Resolution (recommended by
u/subgenre_fanatic) - this movie was....”interesting”. It was not a found footage film at all. This was a but of an undecided theme. One minute it’s religious spooky, then maybe there’s indigenous culture vibes, but then we go to weird creepy dude vibes? I’m not sure what was going on here. But the ending was a pleasant surprise.
Unfriended- it’s worth a mention. The tiny Skype screens seemed annoying. And were these all only children whose parents weren’t home?? If I heard a sibling of mine hollering like that I’d call 911
Update July 2020
Asylum: the lost footage.
The devils doorway
Update June 2020
-Borderlands/Final Prayer (had to rent it from my library. Loved. I think of that ending from time to time. So great)
-Digging up the marrow. ( I enjoyed this one)
-Banshee chapter (this is not a found footage film. It has Found Footage elements but I wouldn’t consider it a FF film)
-Apollo 18 (forgot to add this to my original list)
-Behind the Mask (I intentionally didn’t add this originally because I felt it was more satirical. But it’s worth a mention)
-Survive the hollow shoals (worth checking out. Thanks to u/awesabre for reminding me of this one. )
-Hollows Grave (kinda cheesy. But okay)
-Home movie (I was finally able to track this down thanks to u/Rechan. I loved the ending)
-Absence (hell yes. This type of realism is why I like FF)
-Found Footage 3D (this I loved. I love a movie where you have to “catch things” Last twenty ish minutes was 👌🏼
-Hell House LLC 3 ( I was nervous to watch this one because the first is Good and the second was okay. I legit was creeped out with that scene with the kiss. Definitely check this one out. Interesting ending...)
-The Dirties (found this on Shudder. Personally not a fan. It’s more mockumentry. This is scary in its realism. If you just want to get straight to the scary: Last 15 minutes of the film.
-Cold Ground (film starts in French but switches to English early on. I didn’t love this one)
-Be my cat: a letter for Anne (psychological film.)
-exhibit A (I like FF for the realism it provides. I enjoyed this one(
-Noroi (took forever to track this one down. Had to watch some super grainy version on YouTube. Loved this!!!)
The dark tapes- I have actually seen this one already but had forgotten the name of it. I really enjoyed the ending.
Alien Valley - this was okay.
Update June 2020
Troll Hunter ( this isn’t quite horror but is so worth a watch)
As Above So Below (I liked it!)
Afflicted (Good!)
Mothers of Monsters (is she crazy? Is he? I like that this keeps you guessing)
Quarantine (I just forgot to add this originally)
Banshee chapter (It looses that found footage feel a couple times)
The coffin tapes (not a fan)
Char Man (enjoyed it. Wish there was just a little more ‘action’. Liked the ending)
Shadow of the Missing (I personally felt that the constant back and forth between footage and interviews was distracting after awhile and took away from the creepiness)
May 2020
-The Mirror (fun but not stellar)
-VHS (I love these ones. They are perfect because they are so short)
-Paranormal Activity Series (of course I like this)
-Creep (good! Amazon prime or Netflix)
-Grave encounters (Amazon Prime loved it. Hated ending. 👍🏼👍🏼)
-Hell house LLC (a classic 👍🏼👍🏼)
-Hide the monster (I liked it)
-Leaving DC (enjoyable)
-The Bay (yes!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼)
-Savage land (👍🏼)
-The Sacrament (messed up religion stuff 👍🏼👍🏼)
-The Conspiracy (starts slow. Gets better)
-Screamers (I liked it)
-Death of a ghost hunter (eh. Okay)
-Bad Ben series (hilariously bad but awesome)
-She walks in the woods (meh)
-Willow Creek ( no)
-The nothing (this dude’s gf really was freaking out. But I enjoyed this)
-Evidence (interesting enough)
-Descent into Darkness (eh....definitely interesting. That ending was dark af)
-Black water vampire (predictable. Ending is interesting)
-Infliction (not a horror. Sucks imho)
-Butterfly Kisses (I loved how self aware this was. I enjoyed this one.
-The last broadcast (kinda shitty)
-Gonjiam (subtitled. Enjoyable ride.)
-The possession of Michael King (didn’t like)
-Mortal Remains (realist feeling. Mockumentry)
-Webcast (decent)
-The Triangle (could have been better)
-In a strangers house (mostly implied.)
-Classroom 6 (okay)
-The final project (👍🏼)
Great list, thanks for sharing, I laughed at the "wait, I've seen this before", I've done that a few times.
If you enjoyed Resolution, do yourself a favor and watch The Endless :), without giving anything away, they're connected 😊
Happens so many times! Someone will tell me about a movie I get about 10-15 minutes in and then I’m like “wait a minute....”
I will check that one out!
I'll have to watch Both.
Thanks for posting this. Quite a few I haven't seen on your list and agree with most of your opinions. But man, I disagree about Willow Creek. I freaking love that movie. Some really tense moments in that flick. Could be because I grew up backpacking and have been interested in Sasquatch for 40 plus years. Thanks again though.
Isn't that so interesting! That is what I just love about movies. We both watched Willow Creek. Same exact film, and had completely different experiences with it. Always nice to hear what other people think of the films.
Welcome back, missed your posts. I always seem to find one obscure FF movie I haven’t heard of each time you update. Thanks!
Hey thank you for saying that. I wanted to let you know that I appreciate it. COVID year made it hard to sit and actually watch anything, but it is nice to know that there is at least one person out there who appreciates and looks forward to my list!
more than one!! thank you my fellow found footage friend.
Thank you for the list. Im going to look up Abcense.
I know you didn't like Willow Creek, but have you tried Exists? It came out around the same time as Willow Creek. I enjoyed both of them, but Exists is a lot more of a thrill ride.
I will look into this one! Thank you!
It's on tubi. I liked it.
I do not see Demonic on there! Really cool movie. Found footage and surprise ending
Really! Do you know where it is streaming
Vudu
Will check it out!
Thank you so much! I'm a huge FF fan and am always on the lookout for ones I haven't seen. There are quite a few here I haven't seen, so my evenings will be filled watching them. Thanks!!
About to watch Final Prayer on Tubi :D
Literally I need to hear your thoughts after watching this one. I would say this is one of my favs.
That's why I picked it I will get back to you but I've got a half an hour left and I'm loving it so far
Enjoy the ride!
Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Thanks for sharing!
Check out Nightshot on Tubi, it’s ok - I think the hook is that it’s filmed in one continuous shot (supposedly)
I feel like I may have seen this one before.... I’ll check it out and report back
Great list, thanks for sharing!
Brilliant, thank you!!!!!
Brew House had so much potential
It really did!!! But I’m not sure what went wrong there.
The other footage/flashbacks killed it IMO. Should have stuck with the brewery
Thank you for posting! To contribute I'd recommend:
A Record of Sweet Murder
Creep 2
The Poughkeepsie Tapes
I will check out a record of sweet murder.
I can’t believe I haven’t added creep 2 or Poughkeepsie tapes!! 🤦🏻♀️ I have definitely seen those.
There is one that I saw forever ago I really enjoyed. But I don’t remember the name!
Have you seen Cloverfield?
Oh yea!! If it’s a super well known FF (clover field. Blair witch. Paranormal activity series) I’ve seen it
Okay, cool. Just wanted to make sure.
Did you know grave encounters has a sequel? some of the original actors return, and man did it have a dark ending...
Yes, Exists! Lake Mungo was too slow for me but gets high marks. And Europa Report is another for everyone. I tried Monster Project for about 10 minutes, and wanted to like it, but the acting is just awful. And this genre rocks. Keep em coming filmmakers!
There's one on Tubi with the title of Exhibit X about a massive party to launch a new liquor brand that goes awry. Seems realistic enough. Check it out.
ALSO... Most of the movies everyone has been listing here are showing up on Tubi. And it's free, so check it out for your Found Footage movie night.
Stumbled on a happy accident. Found Cursed Cliffs on Tubi looking for The Bay, but found not the right The Bay. See what you think about Cursed Cliffs.
Thank you, you’ve helped me find one I’ve been looking for for ages that I saw a while ago and for the life of me couldn’t find again!
So glad I could help! Which one was it?
Webcast. It’s not the best movie in the world but I remember watching it ages ago and felt nostalgic and just couldn’t remember the name until I read your list!
Where did you watch the lost vlog of ruby real?
Watch it free on tubi.
Not sure if it’s streaming, but atrocious was a pretty decent Spanish found footage movie.
Going to check it out! Thank you!
There is a houses October build 2. Think it's called the blue skeleton on amazon. Not as good as the first but still worth watching if you liked the first one.
DUDE you forgot 2 of my favs....Jeruzalem and as above so below! Also AFFLICTED you would LOVE. Any more recent ones you would rec? I havent watched one in a few years now nothing has really caught my eye. I know i must be missing something!
As above and afflicted are both in my June 2020 update.
But! I have never seen Jeruzalem!! Definitely gonna check this one out. Do you know where I can watch it
Jeruzalem isnt oscar worthy but I freaking LOVED the idea of hells mouth opening and literally demons just coming out by the thousands.
You need to add chronicle to the list
Tysm for keeping up with this list. FF is one of my favorite subgenres of horror. Is it safe to assume you have seen the Rec (Spanish) movies? Quarantine was the U.S. remake of the first one. I have not seen the others, but the first one is pretty great. Will never be able to get the last 15 min out of my head.
Thank you! :-) it’s good to know people appreciate it. I saw the first Rec and I believe the 3rd one (whichever one takes place at a wedding). Those are great films!
THE PYRAMID was creepy too
You gotta add THE SPIRIT CHASER. / MOTH. / THE TAKING OF DEBORAH LOGAN. / FRANKENSTEINS ARMY. / THE FRANKENSTEIN THEORY. / DEVILS PASS / HOWARDS MILL / HOST
Can’t believe I don’t have Deborah Logan already on there! 🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for the recommendations. I’m gonna give these a watch!
All are excellent
Awesome list, you listed a bunch I never saw.....hunting now....
Chernobyl Diaries was good too.
And definitely twisted.
