The queen is so young

Her grand-uncle (by marriage), born a Danish royal, married into the British royal family, and became king of Norway by election. What a story.

The fact that he was married to a British princess, who was the daughter of King Edward II (and grand daughter of Queen Victoria) was a big reason why Prince Carl (Haakon VII) was offered the Norwegian throne. the fact that he had an heir was also important.

Having close ties with the UK in those days was very important, and having a British born princess as the Queen was a way to get that.
