Elon Musk’s dating and relationship history: His girlfriends and wives

Elon Musk’s dating history is once again a topic of conversation.

The billionaire Tesla co-founder reportedly welcomed twin babies with one of his top executives at Neuralink, Shivon Zilis, in November 2021 — just one month before having another child with on-again, off-again girlfriend Grimes.

But Zilis and Grimes were far from the first women to catch Musk’s eye. Check out his headline-making relationships below.

Justine Musk

Justine Musk, née Justine Wilson, was Musk’s first wife, marrying the tech wizard in 2000. The couple welcomed their first son, Nevada, in 2002 but lost him to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old.

The couple went on to have a set of twins — Griffin and Vivian — in 2004 and a set of triplets —  Kai, Saxon and Damian — in 2006, a total of five children.

Elon and Justine split in 2008, and she told Marie Claire in 2010 that her ex-husband thought of her as a “starter wife.”

Talulah Riley

Actress Talulah Riley got engaged to Musk six weeks after he filed for divorce from Justine, going on to marry the mogul herself in 2010.

The couple hit a rough patch in 2014 when they divorced at Elon’s request for the first time. The pair reconciled and remarried 18 months later, only for Riley to file for divorce in 2016.

Amber Heard

The SpaceX founder then moved on to Amber Heard, dating the actress in late 2016, shortly after the “Aquaman” star’s divorce from Johnny Depp.

She and Musk split after just one year due to their intense schedules.

Musk went on to tell Rolling Stone in November 2017 that the split was quite difficult for him, adding he was, “really in love, and it hurt bad.”

Grimes

Page Six exclusively reported that Musk began dating musician Grimes in April of 2018, one month before the couple made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala.

A source told us at the time that they met online through a joke about artificial intelligence that Musk had planned to tweet but discovered Grimes had already made.

Breakup whispers began by fall 2018, when Musk and Grimes unfollowed each other on Twitter after rapper Azealia Banks posted that she’d been wandering around the billionaire’s Los Angeles compound waiting for Grimes to show up so they could work on music together.

The “Violence” singer never arrived, sending the rapper on a days-long rant in which she called Grimes a “dirty-sneaker-inbred-out of the woods-Pabst beer p—y methhead-junkie,” Musk a “trash ass beta male pig” and claimed the couple wanted to have a threesome with her.

Grimes, however, confirmed that she and the PayPal co-founder were still dating in a March 2019 interview with WSJ. Magazine.

The “Flesh Without Blood” artist announced her pregnancy in January 2020 by posting her baby bump on Instagram.

Grimes and Elon welcomed son X Æ A-12 in May 2020, engaging in a Twitter discussion over the name’s pronunciation while the singer recovered from giving birth.

The couple later changed their son’s name to X Æ A-XII to comply with California law.

After three years together, the couple split, with Musk confirming via social media that he and the Canadian songstress are “semi-separated” but remain on good terms and continue to co-parent their 1-year-old son.

“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” Musk told us.

In her Vanity Fair cover story released in March 2022, Grimes confirmed the pair were back together after rumors he was dating Australian actress Natasha Bassett. She also revealed she secretly welcomed a second child, a baby girl named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, via surrogate in December 2021.

Hours after the story was released, she revealed they had broken up again.

Shivon Zilis

News broke in July 2022 that Musk and Zilis, the director of operations and special projects at Musk’s Neuralink company, quietly welcomed twins in November 2021.

Business Insider obtained court documents revealing the pair requested that their newborns “have their father’s last name and contain their mother’s last name as part of their middle name,” which a judge reportedly approved in May 2022.

The babies’ names were not immediately released.

Musk appeared to confirm the report one day later, tweeting, “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far,”
