Jennifer Rene Psaki was born in Stamford, Connecticut on the 1st of December, 1978. She was born as the eldest of 3 daughters to her parents, Dimitrios “James” R. Psaki and Eileen.

Her mother, Eileen is a psychologist, while her dad, Dimitrios is a retired real estate developer. Psaki belongs of Greek and Irish descent as her grandmom was of Irish descent and her grand-dad was originally from Greece. 

Jen studied at Greenwich High School and completed her graduation in 1996. After that, she went to the College of William & Mary, where she received a degree in sociology and English.

Psaki started her career in 2001 by serving in the re-election campaigns for the politicians, Tom Harkin and Tom Vilsack, who were running for U. S. Senate and governor at that time. During the 2008 presidential campaign, she served as a traveling press secretary for then U. S. Senator, Barack Obama. 

Jen was appointed as the Deputy Press Secretary following the victory of Barack Obama in the presidential election. Later, on December 19, 2009, she was promoted and given responsibility as the Deputy Communications Director. She served in that position until September 22, 2011, and then became the managing director and senior vice president at the Washington, D. C. office of public relations. 

Psaki began working as a press secretary for President, Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. She subsequently served as a spokesperson for the U. S. Department of State in February 2013. After she was hired at the Department of State, the speculation of her replacing then-White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney started roaming around. However, the rumor turned off after the announcement of Josh Earnest as the new White House Secretary.

Jen found her place back in the White House in 2015 as she started serving as a communications director. She served in the position until President, Obama’s administration. Then, Psaki began a new chapter of her career serving as a political commentator for CNN in February 2017.

After working with CNN for almost three years, she joined the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris transition team, and a month later, she was announced as the White House Press Secretary for Joe Biden’s administration. 

Jen did her first work as a press secretary after the inauguration by a briefing on the evening of January 20. In May 2021, she appeared in an interview with David Axelrod, where she revealed that she would be departing as press secretary from around a year from now. 

She left the role of press secretary to Karine Jean Pierre. Psaki has joined MSNBC as a political commentator.

Jen Psaki is married to Greg Mecher. She tied the knot with Greg on May 8, 2010. Her husband, Mecher has previously worked as a chief of staff to Congressman, Steve Driehaus, and Joe Kennedy. The pair met for the first time in 2006 during the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Together they share two kids.

On November 2, 2021, she was tested positive for COVID-19. After full recovery, she returned back to her work on November 12, 2021.
