The nation of Greenland is a large island with a small population – the country has just 56,480 residents, making it the least densely populated territory in the world. A third of the population live in the capital and largest city of Nuuk, situated on the country's southwest coast. Nuuk is Greenland's political, economic and cultural center and it is the world's northernmost capital. Perhaps surprisingly, Nuuk is an increasingly popular destination for Danish immigrants, as it offers good employment opportunities in business, shipping and other industries (although, as Greenland is a Danish territory, the city and country continues to rely on investment from the government of Denmark).

Much of Greenland is covered in ice and all of the country's towns and settlements are located along the ice-free coast, with the population mainly inhabiting the west coast. Sisimiut is the second-largest city in Greenland, although it has a population of just 5,598. However, it is one of the fastest growing cities in Greenland. All other settlements in the country have populations of fewer than five thousand, with the smallest being Kangaamiut in west central Greenland – it has a tiny population of just 353 residents.

Greenland has 0 cities with more than a million people, 0 cities with between 100,000 and 1 million people, and 1 cities with between 10,000 and 100,000 people. The largest city in Greenland is Nuuk, with a population of 14,798 people.
