Google Earth: This is how the game “Geoguessr” works

Geoguessr is a geographical guessing game based on the Google Earth service. Many fans these days compete on the site to get as high a score as possible.

• At Geoguessr you will be randomly shown any place in the world in the form of a Google Streetview shot . You have to guess as accurately as possible where in the world this recording came from.
• You may be in a city, in the mountains or in a desert.
• You have to identify as many characteristics as possible from the respective recording that speak for a particular country or region.
• If you have an idea, click on the relevant location on the world map. Based on the distance between the actual location and your classification, you will receive points.
• Five different locations are searched for per round. You can achieve a total of 20,000 points. To do this you would have to solve all the puzzles with pinpoint accuracy.

For several years now, players have been trying to achieve the maximum number of points possible in a Geoguessr round. To ensure that you are successful in guessing the locations, you can follow a few essential tips.

• First, take a careful, careful look around the place you have landed. Be sure to use the controls and move around the landscape to discover possible clues.
• Town or traffic signs, advertising posters and telephone numbers with certain area codes can be important indicators that speak for a particular country. Here you can incorporate your geographical knowledge.

• Combine the different clues and slowly approach the solution.
• Last but not least, you have to set the pin for your guess attempt very precisely. Even just a few kilometers away costs you valuable points. Therefore, take your time and compare the street view image with the 2D map again and again.
