TATTOOS ARE wearable art that lasts a lifetime, but the actual time you spend under the needle can last as little as ten minutes. Even then, getting a tattoo can be painful, depending on the location and your pain tolerance, but that's only just beginning. The healing process is no joke and it often takes weeks for a tattoo to completely heal.

That doesn't stop most people from adding more art to their bodies. For the most part, getting a tattoo is as common as adding a new pair of kicks to your sneaker collection. They're increasing in popularity even more now that visible tattoos have started to become more widely accepted within the workplace.

      Cons

First thing's first, before you go applying tattoo lotions or creams, it's also important to keep it clean. "I usually tell people to treat it like they would a cut or a wound," Gutierrez explained. "Wash it with a gentle anti-bacterial soap and let it air dry or use a clean paper towel. Avoid using your bath towel, as it's most likely dirty and could harbor bacteria. Avoid scratching or touching. Let it breathe and wear loose clothing, if possible."

Dr. Zeichner agrees. "It's important to keep the skin clean and hydrated after getting a new tattoo," he said. "Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliating products. You want to cleanse the skin without compromising the integrity of the skin barrier."
