Background[]
Following the fall of Napoleon, the Congress of Vienna founded the German Confederation, a loose league of 39 sovereign states. The appointment of the emperor of the Austrian Empire as the permanent president reflected the Congress's rejection of Prussia's rising influence. Disagreement within restoration politics partly led to the rise of liberal movements, followed by new measures of repression by Austrian statesman Klemens von Metternich. The Zollverein, a tariff union, furthered economic unity. In light of revolutionary movements in Europe, intellectuals and commoners started the revolutions of 1848 in the German states, raising the German Question. King Frederick William IV of Prussia was offered the title of Emperor, but with a loss of power; he rejected the crown and the proposed constitution, a temporary setback for the movement. King William I appointed Otto von Bismarck as the Minister President of Prussia in 1862. Bismarck successfully concluded the war with Denmark in 1864; the subsequent decisive Prussian victory in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 enabled him to create the North German Confederation, which excluded Austria. After the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War, the German princes proclaimed the founding of the German Empire in 1871. Prussia was the dominant constituent state of the new empire; the King of Prussia ruled as its Kaiser, and Berlin became its capital. In the Gründerzeit period following the unification of the German States (excluding the Archduchy of Austria), Bismarck's foreign policy as Chancellor of Germany secured Germany's position as a great nation by forging alliances and avoiding war. However, under Wilhelm II, Germany took an imperialist course, leading to friction with neighboring countries. A dual alliance was created with the multinational realm of Austro-Hungarian Empire; the Triple Alliance of 1882 included the Kingdom of Italy. The United Kingdom, France, and Russian Empire also concluded alliances to protect against Habsburg interference with Russian interests in the Balkans or German interference against France. At the Berlin Conference in 1884, The German Empire claimed several colonies including German East Africa, German South West Africa, Togoland, and Kamerun. Later, Germany further expanded its colonial empire to include holdings in the Pacific and the Qing Dynasty. The colonial government in South West Africa (present-day Namibia), from 1904 to 1907, carried out the annihilation of the local Herero and Namaqua peoples as punishment for an uprising; this was the 20th century's first genocide. The assassination of the Austrian crown prince on 28 June 1914 provided the pretext for Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia and trigger World War I. After four years of warfare, in which approximately two million German soldiers were killed, a general armistice ended the fighting. In the German Revolution (November 1918), Kaiser Wilhelm II and the ruling princes abdicated their positions and Germany was declared a federal republic. Germany's new leadership signed the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, accepting defeat by the Entente. Germans perceived the treaty as humiliating, which was seen by historians as influential in the rise of Adolf Hitler. Germany lost around 13% of its European territory and ceded all of its colonial possessions in Africa and the Pacific. |

Geography[]
Terrain[]
While continental Germany itself is covered in flat lowlands, most of its colonies are primarily Hilly, such as Cameroon, western Tanzania, and the entirety of Papua New Guinea.
Biome[]
The German Empire is made up of the Arid, Jungle, and normal biomes, with temporary freezing annually.
- Namibia, except for its panhandle, is fully covered in Arid.
- The Jungle regions spans across southern and central Togo, Cameroon, northwestern Tanzania, and the entirety of mainland Papua New Guinea.
- From the months of November and February, the region of Germany experiences Mild Winter, while Severe Winter co-exists in Poland and Lithuania from December to January.
Population[]
The population of the German Empire is 55,217,233, with mainland Germany being the most populated region.
Formables[]
The German Empire can form:
- The Frankish Empire
- The European Union
Threats[]
The German Empire is a difficult formable in the game, due to all of the required countries being far from mainland Germany, and the fact that a lot of the countries required are also needed for other foreign formables. A brief list of notable threats in a typical game.
Europe[]
- France invading you to form either the Frankish Empire, Napoleonic Empire or to remove Germany as a future threat early on. This will normally happen in the early game.
- Russia requires Kaliningrad and all of Lithuania to form either the Soviet Union or the Russian Empire. In addition, they could also invade you after they had formed one of their formables.
- A large chunk of territories that the formable requires in Europe is located within Poland, which can repel or even outright conquer Germany should the player be skilled.
- A skilled Benelux invading you to secure their position.
- Sweden or Norway invading Denmark to form the Kalmar Union.
- Austria invading you to form the Holy Roman Empire.
- The United Kingdom might invade France to form the Franco-British Union or the Angevin Empire, which will block you from getting Alsace and Metz.
- Any country willing to form the European Union.
- If you are collapsed, Bavaria may be hoping to form the South German Confederation.
- Italy can fully take France for the Roman Empire or just to expand, which means you are not able to get Alsace and Metz.
Africa[]
- Nigeria invading Cameroon to form the Sokoto Caliphate. They could also invade Togo after they had formed the Sokoto Caliphate.
- South Africa invading Namibia to form the South African Union.
- Colonization from other European nations possibly seeking to form their own empires.
- Any East African nation willing to form East African Federation.
- Any country willing to form United States of Latin Africa needs Burundi and Rwanda to form
Asia[]
- China will most likely want to form the Qing Dynasty, which means they will have to take Russia in order to do so. If Kaliningrad did not gain independence yet, there is a high chance China will annex it.
- Indonesia, the Philippines, or Malaysia may form the Alam Melayu, which requires them to take Papua New Guinea, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Samoa away from you.
Oceania[]
- Australia invading Papua New Guinea to expand territory.
- Samoa may be a player and may have formed the Tui Manu'a Confederacy in order to strengthen themselves.
Strategy[]
- Trade for 2 units of gold, 4 units of phosphate, 2 units of copper, 4 units of iron, 1 unit of titanium (from Antarctica to assure your trade doesn't get cancelled).
- Construct Fertilizer and Electronic factories in your square cities for extra income, then motor and steel in any cities, then construct 3 civilian factories in the other square cities. Get Factory Output 2, and save enough political power for nationalism, and eventually get fascism; do not activate any policies during the process.
- If you don't have enough money for your factories, declare war on nearby nations, such as Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, etc. and demand their reparation. Sell your consumer goods, but save some for your growing empire. Activate massed attack for increased manpower gain, which won't modify your tanks.
- Construct thousands of tanks, around 5,000 should be enough. Buy oil, and take over. Use the blitzkrieg strategy to rapidly invade Poland.
- If France is a player, attempt to negotiate to cede the one city, by offering a financial deal or simply request. If they refuse, replenish your tanks, build a few more if necessary, and devise a strategy for capitulation. As Germany, you have the upper-hand superiority compared to France, which grants a more optimal military armament, than other neighbors. Build a aircraft manufactory for bombers, for destroying major economic cities to cripple their economy.
- If France is an AI, AI lure in the city of Strasbourg. Form a line and obliterate France.
- You should have fascism by now, through the use of government spending. However, if you have not, then do not maintain policies, as it will extract daily political power, which converting to said ideology will be much slower. If you do have fascism, you are free to get them.
- Attempt to negotiate or buy Kaliningrad and Lithuania (if they took it), from Russia. If they refuse, keep on building your empire up until you can fight them.
- Justify on Togo and Cameroon. Togo's capital and biggest city is located on its coast, so make your tanks go for the next city closest to the coast and then you'll be fine. If Nigeria is a player, you can try negotiating for Cameroon, but if that fails, just prepare tanks in your Togolese colony and make at least one destroyer, one submarine, and one battleship, and eventually take Nigeria.
- Justify on Namibia and Tanzania, if South Africa is a player, then use the same strategy as you did with Nigeria. Take Namibia and Tanzania, and justify on Rwanada and Burundi, take them and the hardest part is done!
- Justify on Papua New Guinea and Palau, and eventually the Marshall Islands, and Samoa (not American Samoa) and also build destroyers to kill off the home guards.
- If Russia is now a AI, once again ai lure, and conquer.
- If not, if they have anti-tank, use infantry, if not, get a lot of tanks, build a aircraft carrier, (use capital fleet), build a escort to make sure it doesn't get sunk, and make a few bombers, if you have such.
- Make sure to buy enough oil. if they have a ai ally, justify on them. Take a few countries if you don't border Russia. Form a line and if the tanks take enough (thanks to bombardment from the carrier), Russia may leave. Its free sailing from there and you can soon force peace.
- And once you finish the war, you have restored the glorious and long-lost empire! Heil Kaiser dir. You are officially the Monarch of the German Empire!
Trivia[]
- The German Empire was considered to be the "Second Reich" by Nazi Germany, which called itself the Third Reich.
- The German Empire was implemented in the Biome and Events Update as a solution to replace the German Reich.
