December 17, 1938 - August 28, 2022 Born in New York City, New York, Dr. George St. Johns moved to southern California with his family at the age of four. Raised by his mother Elaine St. Johns and grandmother Adela Rogers St. Johns, George enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and served in Stuttgart, Germany. He was an Automatic Weapons Self-Propelled crewman, attended the Security Police Academy and the school for Special Weapons, served on the Security Police Force, in addition to being a member of the 3rd AAA rifle team, on the 23AAA, AWSP Color Guard and General Clark's personal honor guard. He traveled extensively during his service, which led him to believe that "in order to be helpful, or to act positively with a beneficial outcome, one must be sympathetic with other people and their position so that forms of help or guidance come from within rather than being imposed from without." His experience overseas led him to study political science and economics. He obtained multiple graduate degrees. During his college career that began at Pierce College and ended at California State University of Northridge, he received two Varsity awards in football, was on the student council, served as President of the Sigma Delta Men's Fraternity, President of the Inter Fraternity council, President of the Intra Fraternity-Sorority Council, Chairman of the 1961-62 Cancer Drive, Chairman of the Youth for Nixon, Executive Vice Chancellor, Chancellor and member of the Board of Trustees for the California State University. Post-college, he worked for several political campaigns at all levels of government, including campaigns for Richard Nixon, Jack Lindsey, George Murphy, Glenn Wegner, Bill Brophy, Peter Taft, John Gullixson and Robert Welbourn. He was the Administrative Assistant to California Assemblyman Patrick McGee, Special Assistant to California Lieutenant Governor Robert H. Finch and Chief of Staff for California State Senator Ed Davis. He was President and Founder of St. Johns & Talmadge, Chairman, Publisher and Co-Founder of Sell Overseas America, Co-Director, Publisher and Trade Show Producer for the 1984 International Business Center at the World's Fair in New Orleans, Chief Operating Officer, Director and Publisher for Science of Mind Communications and President, Publisher and Founder of Magnet Communications. Later in life, he became a certified real estate appraiser, establishing the California Coalition of Appraisal Professionals, while simultaneously being the founder of the Dr. John Hefferlin and Marian Hefferlin Foundation, on which he served as President of the Board for most of the years in the last two decades of his life. George described himself as a team-builder, which is evident from his lifetime accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Pamela St. Johns, children Collin St. Johns and Ashley St. Johns, grandchildren Georgina St. Johns and Casey St. Johns and daughter-in law Gigi St. Johns. The family will hold a private celebration of his life on December 17, 2022, which would have been his 84th birthday. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the California State University of Northridge's Associated Student's Children's Center. He arrived in a taxicab on December 17, 1938, and he left surrounded by his family at his home on August 28, 2022.

George was a great man. I am so sorry for his passing. We were appraisers together and worked on many assignments including traveling to Sacramento to fight injustice. Big loss to the appraisal community.
