'He's been dining out on this story for years!' Eva Mendes offers a brutal response as The Morning Show host Larry Emdur claims they 'locked eyes' at a Sydney hotel in 2007

He may be a pin-up for middle-aged women across Australia, but did The Morning Show host Larry Emdur once catch the eye of Hollywood siren Eva Mendes?

According to his telling, the pair once 'had a moment' while crossing paths in a hotel foyer in Sydney in 2007, but his co-host Kylie Gillies has never believed him.

Fortunately, they had the opportunity to set the record straight on Friday when they interviewed Eva, 46, in her capacity as a McHappy Day ambassador.

As they wrapped up their interview, Kylie, 53, said: 'Eva, as we say goodbye, I just want to clear something up, if I could, if you can indulge me for just one moment.

'Larry, my co-host here, says that he was in LA about 13 years ago, he was in a hotel foyer...'

Larry, 55, then interrupted: 'No, Sydney!'

Kylie continued: 'Sydney, it was? I thought it was LA. It was in Sydney. And he saw you in the foyer and that you locked eyes - this is what he's telling me - and that you had a moment.'

'Now, he's been dining out on that story for such a long time. Have you ever seen this face before?' she asked, gesturing at her colleague.

Before Eva had a chance to respond, Larry jumped in: 'The story was - that's not the story - the story was that I locked eyes on you while you were looking the other way. That's the story I've been telling!'

'Now I remember!' The 46-year-old actress played along with the joke by pretending she remembered the 'look' she gave Larry at the time, and pulled a disgusted expression

Humouring the hosts, the Hitch star replied: 'That makes more sense. That I recall!'

She then played along with the joke by pretending she remembered the 'look' she gave Larry at the time, and pulled a disgusted expression.

'That's it! Just before you called the police,' replied Larry with a laugh. 'That's exactly... now I remember!'

Of course, if the 'moment' did happen, it wouldn't have led to anything.

Larry has been happily married to wife Sylvie since 1995, and the couple share two adult children, daughter Tia and son Jye.

Eva was also in a long-term relationship with filmmaker George Augusto at the time, but they would split three years later, in 2010.

She began dating Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, whom she met on set of The Place Beyond the Pines, in 2011.

They share two daughters, Esmeralda, six, and Amada, four.
