Geoffrey Howe delivers his resignation speech in the House of Commons in 1990. Lord Howe’s resignation is often credited with ending Margaret Thatcher’s political career. His speech criticised Thatcher for undermining policies on economic and monetary union in Europe. Howe’s family have said on Saturday that the former Conservative chancellor has died aged 88, after a suspected heart attack. Howe entered the House of Lords in June 1992 and retired in May this year
